Jeremiah Wright, In Context

After the initial shock of the news about Barack Obama's racist preacher Jeremiah Wright wore off, liberals in and out of the media have begun to make excuses for his statements, saying that they were taken out of context.

Well, here's some context. Does this make Wright (and Obama by association) look worse?

I just read all of this at

I just read all of this at Hot Air... so much to say, too late at night ...... all I know is Obama has to wish that the hate-filled USA Wright would of stayed on vacation...permanently.

There are so many

fallacies in his bigoted speech, I hardly know where to start. How about we start with who sold the Africians into slavery...yep, other Africians. Would he care to discuss that?

Pretending that wasn't a

Pretending that wasn't a rhetorical question, I'd guess no. Conspiracy theories, historical distortions, outright lies, and the only reason he isn't called to task for it is that he's a black preacher, and I refuse to grant him the respect of calling him "Reverend". Until he does something worthy of reverence rather than disgust, he shall join the ranks of "Irreverends" like Jackson and Sharpton.

Oh DDM...shhh....you never

Oh DDM...shhh....you never hear that anywhere most times, not PC don't you know, rarely on the History Channels and such, rarely on the documentaries of any sort the msm do elsewhere, not in text books in schools that I know of, weren't in mine...on and on it goes...and the leftists never want it brought up, and the repubs are to cowarded to talk about it.

The truth hurts...it's all for the voters in their political strategy...and that is all that counts for them at the moment, you know, whichever way the wind blows.

Jeremiah Wright in Context

What is sad is that they are even trying to defend this. I prefer to take Reverend Wright in the context he spoke:

Obama's Pastor is an Anti-American Racist (Video) (2min)
Obama's Pastor: "Hillary Clinton ain't never been called a n......" (Video) (3min)

Pastor Wright Soundboard

The Anti 'Man-Made' Global Warming Resource

Pastor Wright and God damn America

1. I want to give the Pastor the benefit of the doubt.

2. He can't deny he didn't say it, but by explaining its meaning, he can interpret it for us in a positive way.

3. So, Pastor, what do you mean when you say, "God damn America."

BS on Context

I call BS on context. My bible says "The truth shall set you free!" Facts are - Rev. Wright said "God damn America." He not only hates this country, he hates white people even more, and he leverages his hate by manipulating dumb city-dweller congregants (including Obama) into paying for a $1+ million dollar retirement home. Another reality is ... the wanna-be president, B. Hussein Obama, not only refuses to repudiate his mentor's remarks, but he steadfastly maintains, that in his 20+ year association with JW as his mentor, he never heard such racist (anti-white) remarks. BHO is a liar. While deception may be a badge of honor in the legal profession, it does not carry water with this old white-butt conservative. Voters deserve to know the truth about this wolf in sheep's garb and the MSM is certainly not the institution to rely upon for the truth!

Exactly how many times does

Exactly how many times does Obama have to repudiate Wright's remarks before you and others will stop claiming he hasn't repudiated Wright's remarks?  Does he need to write it on a blackboard a hundred times?

Jer

Congratulations on the

Congratulations on the MSM-worthy spin, Jer. Allow me to quote the section of Bodini's post you are lying about: "...the wanna-be president, B. Hussein Obama... steadfastly maintains, that in his 20+ year association with JW as his mentor, he never heard such racist (anti-white) remarks. BHO is a liar."

Your fiction: Bodini claims Obama hasn't repudiated Wright's remarks.

Reality: Bodini claims that Obama lied in saying that he never heard racist remarks from Wright.

Are you seeing the problem here? Nobody is saying Obama hasn't repudiated Wright's comments. Rather, anyone with a clear mind is saying that it is utterly unreasonable to believe that Obama never heard any of these comments from his "spiritual adviser" over the course of 20 years. So said, that makes Obama a liar and his repudiations less than worthless. Now stop trying to deflect away from the real points with disingenuous accusations.

Interesting ploy,

Interesting ploy, Cortillaen...Carve out a portion of Bodini's post that you have somehow divined was the subject of my comment and then characterize same as a "disingenuous accusation".

That you are flatly wrong is of little consequence I suppose.  After all, it allowed you to deliver a cheap shot and charge me with "lying".  Well, enjoy your little ersatz triumph.

Following that, why don't you reread Bodini's post and try again, Einstein.  Maybe you will be able to actually discern the part I was addressing.   Or perhaps you should permit Bodini to speak for himself.

Jer

Very profound.  I'll try to remember that.  And your point is...?

Jer

Comprehension

nor telling the truth as fact is a character of the liberal mind..... it's all about FEELINGS.

"Eventually, Socialists run out of other peoples' money...." MARGARET THATCHER

Feelings

...it's all about FEELINGS.

Gosh, it's probably been at least ten minutes since I've encountered that assertion elsewhere on NB.  And I have a feeling I will continue to do so daily.

Jer

Then here goes another.....

Can't we all just "move on" from this old news?

Whenever there is any bit of bad news to be used against them, the democrats/socialists/communists/unpatriotic fools wish to change the subject.

Jer, a question - How long did the demos and MSM continuously bombard the airways with the news of the "page boy scandal" that wasn't a sandal at all prior to the 2006 elections?

old cro...I'm sure the Dems

old cro...I'm sure the Dems milked the Foley scandal as much as they could, just as I am sure the Repubs will continue to milk Reverend Wright all they can until the election [assuming Obama is the nominee].

Now, a question for you:  What in the world does this have to do with my reference to the repeated posts here claiming liberals are all about "feelings" instead of logic?

Jer

Typical.....

"that assertion" was taken out of context. It was another socialistic assertion I was giving you for your enjoyment.

It would appear that I did

It would appear that I did misread that part of Bodini's post, so you are owed this apology and the retraction of my accusation of lying on your part. If you wish, I shall edit the post clear, or you can choose to have it remain as a testament that your opponents do make mistakes when reading things around 12:40 am.

However, I still disagree with your basic premise that repudiating a particular group of Wright's remarks undoes the influence of listening to their likes for 20 years. I also reject any suggestion that Obama could closely associate with Wright without being exposed to and influenced by Wright's views. In fact, any claim that Obama was unaware of his "spiritual mentor's" inflammatory habits are patently false since he admitted that, "I knew about one or two of these statements that had been made." Guilt by association is wrong to apply, but it is not wrong to conclude that Obama's views will be similar to those of his close friend, pastor, and "spiritual mentor". Even if he were to openly declaim Wright and his views, 20 years of close association would lend a false ring. Of course, he hasn't done that, only repudiating a specific group of comments.

Thanks, Cortillaen....that's very gracious of you and I won't forget it.  It's late and I have to log out, but I will do my best to address your post [and KC's below] tomorrow.

Later, Jer

Cort...

Hate to tell you this, but the other poster claims that Obama has not repudiated Wright's comments. Here's the moeny shot:

"B. Hussein Obama, not only refuses to repudiate his mentor's remarks, but he steadfastly maintains, that in his 20+ year association with JW as his mentor, he never heard such racist (anti-white) remarks."

Sorry, but you're only half-right here. However, on the larger point, noting Obama's member and friendships with this racist POS, I think the media is deflecting valid criticism.

Wright is a racist. Louis Farrakhan is a racist. Why does the media think it's racist to note that these men are racist?

OK, it doesn’t matter how

OK, it doesn’t matter how many times the remarks are repudiated.  I want Obama to repudiate Wright, not just Wright’s hate-bombs.  I want Obama to repudiate Ayers and Dohrn.  My views would be tempered if Wright and Ayers and Dohrn had all gone to their knees in shame.  Well forget that.  Wright and Ayers and Dohrn appear to be absolutely mirthful about who they are and what they have said and done.

Obama is Caspar Milquetoast.  He is a non-assertive follower.  He is not a leader.

What about his children?

I think more potential voters will question Obama's judgment, because of his continued attendence at this church.

Basically, he agreed to allow his children to be indoctrinated into this church.  Some might say..."well his comments aren't really representative of the church".  If that's the case, let's see some other sermons.

The church idolizes Rev. Wright.  They named the road in front of the church after him.  He is the main personality there.  It stands to reason that Obama and his family went there at least in part, because of Wright.  Again, what was the motive?

I think the most revealing part of the whole Rev. Wright story is that it took over a year for it to reach the mainstream media.  To me, this says volumes about the media's desire to cover for Obama.  It took a very small amount of investigation to find hours and hours of radical Rev. Wright clips.

How Many Times Must a Candidate Refute?

I don't think it's a matter of Obama refuting the statements of Rev. Wright at all. I think the point the whole discussion is that Barack Hussein Obama has consistently surrounded himself with people who have questionable regard for their country.

Rev. Wright is just one example. Michelle O. is clearly another. So far on the campaign trail she's told us that she hasn't been proud of her country until her husband ran for president; she's told us that we're a downright mean country; she's told us that we shouldn't pursue better-paying corporate jobs when she alone makes 6.5 times the average household income in the US in 2006. How about Frank Davis? Barack clung to his Marxist teachings as a youth and drank deeply of the anti-capitalist, anti-American venom with which Mr. Davis serenaded him. How about William Ayers? Here's another dedicated anti-American. His current life is dedicated to teaching teachers to destroy capitalism from within by taking over the education process and indoctrinating kids with Marxist pap. How about the ever sleazy Tony Rezko? How about Larry Lessig? How about Samantha Powers?

The election process is in part a vetting process. Especially for someone as relatively unknown as Barack Hussein Obama. I'm sure your father and grandfather were well acquainted with the old adage - never buy a pig in a poke.

That's good advice for the American electorate as well.

"All that is necessary for the trimuph of evil is that good men do nothing."

- Edmund Burke (1729 - 1797)

amen and very well said.......pig and a poke reminds me of a funny joke.....but I can't on this site and truly tell it right.  Oh well....

"Eventually, Socialists run out of other peoples' money...." MARGARET THATCHER

But that is the point, Jer

The missing premise in this syllogism is that Obama heard these opinions, over and over again, for many years ... yet he only repudiated them when he ran for president. Sure, he repudiated them, but only after they became widely known, and would cause him political trouble. Had this not become a political firestorm, would he have said anything? The facts suggest not, since he didn't turn away from them until they were publicly embarrassing.

That's where the press is actually doing him a favor. The press is spinning this as if Obama is refusing to abandon an old friend (who's a little controversial). Instead, the uncomfortable question for Obama is whether he agrees with Wright's perspective. Here's what I mean:

  • Wright claims that America systematically oppressed minorities, i.e., other races. Wright believes that by "America," he's referring strictly to the white people. Black people don't share any responsibility for what America did, because white people made those decisions. White people are collectively guilty of oppressing Indians, but blacks aren't. White people are collectively guilty of imprisoning Asians during WWII, but blacks aren't.  Furthermore, white people of today share the same responsibility for those actions -- that's what the "coming home to roost" quote means. (Of course, how is a white teenager of today is any more connected to the slave traders than a Hispanic or even black teenager?)
    • The most important point is that Wright speaks of America as "them," not "us." Wright believes that white Americans are still racist, and apparently will always be.
  • Apparently, many in the black community (and a few white self-hating liberals) agree with that perspective. Obama absolutely needs their support. But Obama also needs white people to win the general election. In other words, he needs the very people Wright considers to be racist. Most Americans, especially the white ones, don't agree with Reverend Wright's perspective. They would not support anyone whose opinion of America is based on that perspective.
  • So Obama has to choose. Does he agree with Wright's perspective? If he says no, he alienates his core supporters. If he says yes, he alienates all the whites. That's why the question is crucial. Obama has to choose, and he can't run away from the question, as he's desperately trying to do now.

Obama complains that he repudiated the comments, but he only did so when the comments became widely known, and he hasn't explained why the comments were wrong. Until he comes up with a satisfactory answer, he's going to keep getting the question.

KC...I believe your premise

KC...I believe your premise is flawed, but I'll have to explain tomorrow.

Jer

The topic is context ...

The topic is context ... but!

Actions speak louder than words ... especially cheap repudiations with no substance. If the politician were a conservative and ... he was a white, male, catholic, mentored for years by a priest who uttered any one of JW's hate-filled words during any weekly message over a twenty year period and the MSM found out about it I think the sound bite from the homily would be extracted, context be-damned, and the lead story on all the MSM stations would be ...

"A disgusting, but expected turn of events, in the world of politics tonight. We at WKRX bring you this exclusive story about Republican politico X, who we all know is a racist, mean spirited ... blah blah blah ... when asked about this story, blatantly lied and claimed he never heard any such words from his priest ... blah blah! We demand that he throw his priest's dead and mutilated body under the bus, burn his church and kill anyone who might have attended or came within 500 miles of that church since the priest was born. We are calling on the Pope to abolish the Catholic church and all religions that have anything to do with Christianity blah blah!" We would then hear that story broadcast mega-times each day for ... eternity!

The MSM, king of sound-bites knows all about context and wish we did not. Again, I would say to BHB ... talk is cheap! While I'm not from Missouri, I might as well be ... BHB ... SHOW ME!

Umm, Jer

how about when he means it.

Hey Bodini... I agree and

Hey Bodini...

I agree and share your passion in your post about Obama...him being a sheep in wolf's garb as you put it is the same thing I too have said from his beginning of his tent revival series of speeches, fake fainting and all...full of sweet nothings, but be wary... very, very, wary.

He is spooky...like nothing I've seen so far....and I thought the Clintons took the cake, he and Michelle are something to behold.

More and more will come out slowly, and by the way if Hill doesn't get the nomination, you can be sure there will be hell to pay.... thank goodness for the internet..the msm can spin all they want, but they still have to report when things reach a crescendo on the internet....

"Never murder your opponent when he is committing suicide." ~ W. Churchill

Thanks bigtimer. I just

Thanks bigtimer. I just got up and it appears that I stirred things up a bit with my little post last night. Remember the issue was CONTEXT! That to me is just another little MSM code word that says conservatives are too dumb to understand the truth so we'll "spin" it to make it appear the JW issue was always a non-issue that was simply concocted by conservatives to make their man look bad.

BHB might have said that he refutes JW's words, but he refuses to disassociate himself with JW or his church. It's like claiming to buy Playboy for the outstanding articles they write and swearing you never saw a naked lady on any of the pages. BHB neds to undersatnd that "Actions speak louder than words." Talk is cheap BHB ... show me!

While I'm on the topic of context/deception, I call BS on other liberal lies like, "I did not have sex with that woman." "I support the military, I just don't support their mission." "I smoked, but I did not inhale!"

MSM ... give me a break ... try telling the TRUTH!

With all the use of the word

With all the use of the word "context" lately, I tried using it in making excuses to my wife.  She wasn't having any of it.  In fact, throwing that word out there made things worse.

Yeah

And wait until you use the word "nuance." It gets worse.

moyers

he asks no real questions. his smug, squinty-eyed phony face leaves me disgusted.

Does this make Wright (and Obama by association) look worse?

Probably, but it will be even more interesting to see how the lefties explain this.

Bet we hear not a peep from the LSM on this, other than to condemn the "racists" at FPM for bringing this up in the first place.

I have done my due diligence and posted the full context on Huffington Post.  Boy, are some of them in a dither now!!

"Context"

context

1432, from L. contextus "a joining together," orig. pp. of contexere "to weave together," from com- "together" + textere "to weave"

So, the Leftist of the Left must now "weave together" a context of plausible deniability that the Obambi can leap through and into the daylight of the American Mainstream.

The context is baldly Marxist - the context is how to obsfucate "Truth" from Power.

The objective is the same as the other Alinsky trained Marxist - power, by whatever means necessary.

"The New Deal began, like the Salvation Army, by promising to save humanity. It ended, again like the Salvation Army, by running flop-houses and disturbing the peace." H.L. Mencken

A morning musing from.....

Reading this post and thinking of the racial polarity evidencing itself
throughout this campaign season, I had some thoughts.....

We (old white men) need to be more "Borg like" with others. It is
clear that blacks have not assimilated into this country. For example, I am
100% Croatian, but if another Croatian was running for office I would not vote
for him based on that criteria. I consider myself American first, something
that is not playing out in the black community from my point of view. (See Rev.
Wright, Al Sharpton, Jessie, etc.) With them and others, race is the overriding
factor in their decision making process. They need to assimilate.

Disclaimers: I do not nor will not lump any group of people into my
comments. There are exceptions to everything I have said and hope no one takes
my rant to heart. It could be said that until I am in their shoes....but I
can't and never will be, and they will never be in mine, so.....

Presenting: The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus

Starring: Barack Obama as Faustus, the gifted climber who finds a fast track to power and fame.

Co-Starring: Reverend Jeremiah Wright as Mephistopheles - promiser, seducer and destroyer.

Wright: the gift that keeps on giving

The Rev. Wright-On is the gift that will keep on giving.

Even on the few "selected" clips on Moyers' upcoming snow job "interview," his demagoguery oozes out.

Now Americans have "blood on their hands."

PREDICTION:
David Axelrod (Obama's Campaign manager) is behind the proto-rehabilitation of Wright, and has strong-armed a top Chicago PR firm to help him... that means a carefully orchestrated puff campaign starting with Moyers.

So I am thinking that fairly soon, you will hear that the Reverend has been mysteriously physically attacked by some "white" "racists".

You heard it here first.

Vote 4 change. Vote 4 anything. See Jack & Mr Shy's first campaign ad for the ONLY viable 3rd party candidate.

The scary thing I find about

The scary thing I find about Obama is who he really is, still a great unknown, I have blogged before that he must be a very conflicted individual, considering his black/white, muslim/christian background. Throw in the extreme left orthodoxy which he apparently believes in as many in his campaign are openly so. Personally I don't think he know who he really is. He changes before our eyes like a chameleon to suit the spin of the moment. He can see the prize which is power and the presidency. He is hiding his true beliefs and nature to gain that end. The MSM is pretty much helping him in his endeavor by softballing any inquiry into his true beliefs, motives and abilities. Hillary and McCain are open books compared to this guy. It may be true (I don't totally buy into Jer's logic) that he has repudiated Wright but Obama had to know the preacher's beliefs and yet he still stayed in that church. I think his wife is a true believer in Wright and having a first lady like her would be a real eye-opener. His association with unrepentant terrorists from the 60's is another cause for concern.

"For every one Oprah, a

"For every one Oprah, a billionaire, you’ve got 5 million blacks who out of work. For every one Colin Powell, a millionaire, you’ve got 10 million blacks who cannot read. For every one Condoskeeza Rice, you’ve got 1 million in prison. For every one Tiger Woods, who needs to get beat, at the Masters, with his cap, blazin’ hips playing on a course that discriminates against women. God has his way of bringing you up short when you get to big for your cap, blazin britches. For every one Tiger Woods, we got 10,000 black kids who will never see a golf course. The United States government has failed the vast majority of her citizens of African descent."

And for every filthy rich Jeremiah Wright, how many poor blacks are there? Interesting how he leaves his own name off the list.

"The details of Reverend

"The details of Reverend Wright's retirement package paid for by the good people of Trinity United Church of Christ?  Well, I thought you would never ask!  Try this on for size: 10,000+ square feet of luxurious living space, four bedrooms, and a total price tag of $1.6 million.  But wait ... there's more!  This is not all the Reverend wins on today's episode of Overly Vocal Hate Peddlers.  Nope.  The church also has a $10 million credit line attached to the property for purposes unknown reports Jeff Goldblatt."

http://www.enterstageright.com/archive/articles/0408/0408revwrightluxury.htm

Now the good rev. will be living his retirement in a neighborhood of mostly very wealthy white folk he constantly rails against. And the good rev. constantly told his parishoners not to aspire to "middleclassness." In other words, he was telling them to remain poor while he wallows in luxury.

 I would also note that

I would also note that his list is comprised of people who are hardworking.

Oprah- got a job in high school, started co-anchoring the local news at 19 years old!

Colin Powell- despite his "C" average at City College, continued his education and received an MBA, to say nothing of the 35 years he gave in service to his country as an Army officer.

Condoleeza (way to project your Christianity there, "Reverend" Wright) Rice- grew up surrounded by segregation, yet refused to let it stop her aspirations.

Tiger Woods- okay, a lot of his sucess is freakish talent for golf, and I mean that in a nice way! But still, hard work.

Has Reverend Wright actually done anything himself to help these "5 million blacks who out of work", "10 million blacks who cannot read", or "1 million in prison"?  I'm sure there must be at least a few in Chicago that he could minister to.

Nebraskans for War: Peace through Strength

Rev Wright - Damn!

I had not yet read the entire context of Wright's remarks.  They are horrible!

I think we need to harp on his hatred for Tiger Woods, a very popular public figure.  Where does this come from?  "Blazin britches"?  What is that?  Is Tiger an Uncle Tom, now?  Is it because his wife is white?  Can someone please explain the term "blazin britches" to me?  I'm getting that it is negative by the context. . .

What about Condoleeza Rice?  Does he hate her because she is republican?

He and Obama and Michelle are sick, sick people.

KC and Cortillaen...

I'm sorry guys...but I just spent the better part of the past hour composing a post on the Obama/Wright issue, and when I attempted to preview, it disappeared.

I don't have the time to try to reconstruct it, but I'll succinctly paraphrase my thoughts:

Say hello to President McCain!
