I mentioned earlier how whenever one of our "NewsBusted" episodes gets especially popular on YouTube, it inevitably attracts left-wing haters who simply can't take the joke being on them. It's pretty much axiomatic. Popular "NewsBusted" creates angry liberals.
Read past the jump for some of the vile stuff the hate-filled left is saying about the current "NewsBusted" episode now that it's the #1 comedy video on all of YouTube and #4 in all categories:

Conservatives aren't funny. It's not that they're bad people or they're dumb. They're just far too rigid and buttoned-up to be funny. Comedy writers and comedians are people with a screw loose in their head who see the world in shades of grey. Conservatives should stick to what their good at: raping the poor and pandering to Jesus.

Amazing how America goes into these countries and kill men, women and children then steal their resources and after all that a warped, brainwashed bitch like this can call them "EVIL". Then the government itself tries to demonize them by using the media for standing up for themselves.

The back-handed insults
January 30, 2008 - 11:17 ET by JasonCThe back-handed insults directed at Republicans in general are weak, and the profanity is self-degrading, but I agree with the general sentiment that this show is relentlessly unfunny. The host is unappealing (I will agree that he smirk after each joke falls under the description of shit-eating), the canned laughter jarring, and it comes off as such a self-conscious attempt to be a reverse-ideology version of Weekend Update.
I do think it's possible to critique liberal mores humorously, I'm not one of those "Republicans just aren't funny" types. For instance, this past Sunday's episode of the Simpsons was ruthless in mocking mid-90s PC attitudes, especially as promoted in academia. It was over the top, but satirically spot on. I guess I just think Newsbusted is too strained in its attempts to turn the tables on popular "liberal" news parodies. Not to mention, the shows that it is immitating will insult liberals and democrats as well (I know, I know, it's not balanced) whereas Newsbusted has clearly defined itself as mocking liberal attitudes and ONLY liberal attitudes.

It's crazy how people keep comparing this to the Daily Show, Weekend update, Simpsons and Southpark. It just proves how good it is.

I suppose it would make sense in terms of production scale (which you seem to be saying is more important) to compare Newsbuster to Red State Update, which I of course find hilarious, but I think RSU is a fundamentally different sort of comedy than NB, Weekend Update and the Daily Show.
The Simpsons is different of course, but I only mentioned that not by way of comparison to NB but to demonstrate that such shows will take shots at liberals as well.

liberals/socialists expect every "comedy" show to make fun of conservatives so they get whiny when we make fun of them.
trying to argue with a liberal/socialist is like trying to argue with a 5 year old. They have to make fun of some physical characteristic because they aren't smart enough to bring valid/reasonable points to the game.

Matthew, they're not angry at NB
January 30, 2008 - 13:09 ET by c5thenThey are angry at the world in general. They are just using the NB comedy spot to vent and make themselves feel better. Deep down the leftists don't actually believe in free speech. They just want their side of the political spectrum to have their say and then shut down all debate because they are afraid of what they might hear.
They also have no concept of responsibility. When the left make a mistake and realize it, they just walk away and leave the mess for someone else to clean up. Somallia, Rawanda, Kosovo, Sudan, etc. etc. If Al Gore had been President on 9/11/2001 we still would probably have gone into Iraq and removed Hussein. The difference is that once the WMDs were not found, Gore would have pulled all troops out to appease the ranting minority and left a civil war and sectarian chaos. At least the GOP realizes that when you break something, you have the responsibility to fix it.
The day that "politician" became a career choice is the day we started losing the Republic. Let's get it back! Alan Keyes '08.
The left can't laugh at their true selves
January 30, 2008 - 13:11 ET by exLibWhat we laugh at is basically conditioned.
We are trained at an early age what is funny by our parents first and foremost and then as we get older we begin to be influenced by the media, our friends and aquaintences, etc.
Most of us were punished in one way or another for laughing in appropriately first by our parents and then by our school teachers and so on.
The problem with society today is it has no conscience, except what the liberal establishment dictates. Therefore morality, in the Religious sense, no longer exists to a great degree in the schools and in the media.
The one lesson most of should have learned at an early age is, what can one joke about and what you can't joke about.
The rules laid out in the schools and in the media are clear. If you are white you can't make any racial comments and you can't say anything derogatory about any religion other than Christianity.
The jokes center on Conservative Hypocrisy and the Cruelty and insecrity of those same Conservatives. These jokes tend to get personal and deal with heart issues of Conservatives, mostly libelous in my opinion.
For the left, the jokes center mainly on phoibles and inconsequential things and rarely get personal and certainly don't deal with heart issues of said Liberals.
What really raises the dander on these libs is that when Conservatives do jokes it hits at the heart of who they are and they don't like it, just like we tend to be a bit defensive when comedians attack GWBs character and not just the manerisms. Or Conservative thought in general.
(ie; The main theme of the daily show is jokes about how "soft" democrats are and not able to stand up to those nasty Republicans).
For decades the right has laughed off the jokes and had a great time laughing at themselves all the while the left has pushed the boundries farther and farther becoming more insulting and more personal and at the same time becoming more and more sensitive as to what can be said about them.
Excellent comment, exLib
January 30, 2008 - 14:12 ET by Matthew SheffieldIt is unfortunate how many conservatives there are out there who think "the media aren't credible to me, therefore no one else thinks they are."

Talking point
January 30, 2008 - 13:18 ET by lotrIt is an empirical fact: Liberals are, generally speaking, far more gratuitous with profanities than conservatives. Anybody have any ideas as to why this is? I, for one, will attest that it is not because of some innate difference (i.e., I have every bit as much capacity to utter them).
If memory serves, this was posed as a poll question (multiple choice) at one point, but I forget what the conclusion was.
I'll concede that in the
January 30, 2008 - 14:05 ET by JasonCI'll concede that in the realm of message boards, liberals are more prone to profanity and steam-shooting-out-their-ears outbursts. DailyKos and YouTube seem to affirm this adequately enough. But I wholly reject the premise that this truism carries over into difference between Liberal People and Conservative People in general. For those of us who enjoy a good debate online, it's important to remember that not everyone is represented in the annals of political blogging.

January 30, 2008 - 14:34 ET by lotrJasonC: Point well taken. I have (non-radical) liberal friends who don't necessarily fit into this mold, and liberal posters here generally don't either. But it is still no doubt the case for frequenters of sites like the DailyKos.

January 30, 2008 - 15:54 ET by JasonCAgreed. There's really nowhere to go, message board-wise for a fairly radical leftist who somehow doesn't buy into the "Bush is evil/a Nazi/an imperialist" master-narrative of online liberalism.
More subtly than that, even though I happen to think liberalism is, ultimately, a more logical mode of thinking, I don't hate conservatives, or even conservatism. I find it interesting and compelling. For instance, I accept the superiority of capitalism over socialism - but that doesn't mean I won't critique the problems, economic and aesthetic, that capitalism presents, especially when our lives are so enmeshed in it.
OK, I'll stop before this turns into a manifesto. Long story short: Daily Kos is obnoxious. Frankly I prefer arguing on a site where most of my posts are challenged. I like it here, even though I'm not always welcome.
