Leno Turns Chris Matthews Jeopardy Joke Into Stab at Fox News

By Matthew Balan | May 18, 2012 | 12:21

On Thursday's Tonight Show, NBC's Jay Leno gratuitously inserted a slam of Fox News as he poked fun of colleague Chris Matthews flunking on Jeopardy: "He [Matthews] got his ass kicked on Jeopardy. He just - he was so embarrassed. The good news: he got so many facts wrong, today, he was offered a job at Fox News."

The following morning, Friday's CBS This Morning played up the anti-Fox News clip as a lead-in to the 7:30 am Eastern half hour. Anchor Charlie Rose apparently thought it was funny, as he laughed it up after the punchline. [audio available here: video after the jump]

This isn't the first time the relatively new CBS morning show has highlighted Leno going after Republicans/conservatives. Back in February 2012, the newscast played a clip of The Tonight Show star mocking opponents of same-sex "marriage."

The transcript of the Jay Leno clip from Thursday's Tonight Show, as featured on Friday's CBS This Morning:

Jay Leno, NBC's The Tonight Show Host | NewsBusters.orgJAY LENO (from NBC's "The Tonight Show"): You know, our good friend Chris Matthews on MSNBC - he does 'Hardball.' You know, real smart - you know, a political junky, clever guy. Well, he's on 'Jeopardy' the other day. (laughs) He got his ass kicked on 'Jeopardy.' (audience laughs) He just - he was so embarrassed. The good news: he got so many facts wrong, today, he was offered a job at Fox News. So that's - that's good to see. Glad to see that (audience laughs and applauds)

Submitted by John21 on Fri, 05/18/2012 - 12:24pm.

Never expect honesty from a liberal and you will never be disappointed.

I assume Leno thinks MSDNC is an honest, fair and factual network and not the Obama Public Relations department.

The operative letters are "NBC"

Submitted by Galvanic on Fri, 05/18/2012 - 12:36pm.

The cross-pollination of NBC/CNBC/MSNBC has been evident for years. Like its political handlers at the White House, the corporation hates Fox News, so they carry a consistent thread in their programming.

Submitted by NCfairandbalanced on Fri, 05/18/2012 - 12:55pm.

Hmmm....you can almost believe Leno and his audience actually respects Fox as the only news source that really does give facts. For example, how funny would it be if he said: "he got so many facts wrong, ABC offered him a job". Wouldn't the joke be a flop? Why? Because they're just as inept as NBC is.

Just thinking out loud...

Leno vs Carson

Submitted by Kingfish17 on Fri, 05/18/2012 - 12:58pm.

The other night I watched a two hour show on PBS, (I need a return on my investment every now and then), about the history of Johnny Carson and the Tonight Show. They had a short interview with Leno. One of the things Leno praised Carson about was how you could never tell Johnny's politics from his jokes. Carson would dish it out to both sides. Why alienate half your potential audience?

I bet if you asked Leno, he would say he does the same thing.  He's clueless.

Truly funny, Jay!

Submitted by Tugboat Phil on Fri, 05/18/2012 - 12:58pm.

Because Fox News has such a reputation for reporting lies and making up their own news.

Remember when FNC rigged that truck's gas tank to blow up? What about the Texas Air Natl. Guard documents that turned out to be fake? And you know they always leave off the (D) with a politician's name if a Democrat gets into legal trouble.

President Obama is a Muslim (from his own lips), Kenyan (read it from his publicist) a homosexual (read it on a news magazine cover) and a Socialist (I'm alive and can see it for myself)

Yeah, send Chris the Wide Mouth Frog over to Fox, where he can get some pointers from Chris Wallace, who cleaned up on another Celebrity Jeopardy game.

Leno, and Matthews, have rocks for brains

Submitted by WilliamW on Fri, 05/18/2012 - 1:48pm.

Matthews has been on a crusade against Conservatives 24/7. He hated Sarah Palin, painting her as stupid, an idiot, dumb, uneducated, and so forth, even though she is clearly much brighter and more well informed than either Matthews or Leno.

Matthews, the smart guy, falls flat on his face on Jeopardy, while FOX's Chris Wallace performed brilliantly on Jeopardy.

Leno, eat your words.

Matthews, who mocks FOX News, Conservatives, and Sarah Palin, humiliated himself on Jeopardy, while Chris Wallace, of FOX News, kicked butt.

Clearly, Leno and Matthews, and their fellow haters, ignorant, under informed, or misinformed fellows, are clearly wrong, and FOX is correct.

Regarding news accuracy, all the mainstream media, NYT, PBS, NPR, NBC, ABC, CBS, MSNBC, CNN, etc., constantly spew false stories, and false claims, frequently posted based on mere hear say, without checking their stories, while FOX News is clearly more balanced and fair in their reporting.

FOX News has also led all cable news stations for more than a decade, while the others might have ten viewers, total.

The misogyny, racism, bigotry, hatred, anti-Semeticism, anti-Christian, anti-baby, anti-Science stance of Matthews is obvious, and he betrays is idiocy with each word slipping from his mouth. MSNBC cates to misinformed, ignorant, bigoted, racist, misogynist people.

Leno is a watered down form of the same kind of nuts as Matthews and many of the Hollywood nuts.

Jeopardy was unfair to Matthews

They should have had categories more suited to him, like:

  • Air America Hosts
  • Things I did with Tip O'Neal
  • Straw Man Arguments

Submitted by kinijane on Fri, 05/18/2012 - 1:58pm.

I think maybe Leno made a mistake, should have named the
network that had to fire some of their people for skewing the
Zimmerman facts and lying thorough out their stories in order
to convict him via the news and to sensationalize. It don't
matter what the truth is in any story they present, not just
the Zimmerman case.

Who pays Chris Matthews? MSNBC

Submitted by felizagain on Fri, 05/18/2012 - 6:49pm.

Hey, that is a funny joke.

The Jeopardy video is priceless. That's entertainment!

It's even more amusing to know he is gainfully employed by MSNBC and paid millions of dollars
to be who he is: a man with a limited intellect.

All the while, he pans Palin, Fox, Rubio, Romney, and he can't do the thing he bashed
Palin for ruthlessly........

Let's face it only liberals

Submitted by okie-pastor on Fri, 05/18/2012 - 8:24pm.

Let's face it only liberals would think that was funny but there are more people who thought "Huh? I like Fox News!".

They don't even realize that while they may get those from the daily Kos & New York Times to grin they are stoking a conservative fire that is getting ready to incenerate them in November!

In many ways these liberal celebrities and condescending, arrogant journalists, are responsible for the passion of the Tea Party!

The out of control spending tax raising poloticians may be the wood but it is these antoganizers that keep fanning the flame!!!!! November where are you!!???

Chris Wallace

Submitted by truckinmann on Fri, 05/18/2012 - 8:36pm.

Strange that Chris Matthews at MSNBC was dead last on his appearance on Jeopardy this week, and Leno pokes fun at him saying fox wants to hire him, yet Chris Wallace of FNC won when he made his appearance this week on Jeopardy. Kind of made you look like an idiot from MSNBC there, Leno..... or maybe you're more along the intelligence of say, Wolf Blitzer of CNN...... Yeah, He was dumber last year than Matthews was this year, though both finished in last place.

Foxx news ignores key votes

Submitted by lrgon on Fri, 05/18/2012 - 11:28pm.

Fox News is sadly too often as unreliable at alerting Americans to threats to the Constitution as are the other cable News shows. Today's vote on the national Defense authorizatiuon Act proves Fox was just as asleep as CNN and the liberal networks.

Sadly Fox gave James Madison's warning little balance and a fair treatment. It's been a fur peace when this great American president said it but his words are still applicable since our very own government is fear resembling a dicatorship!

Said the "Father of the Constitution":

“IT IS A UNIVERSAL TRUTH THAT THE LOSS OF LIBERTY AT HOME IS TO BE CHARGED TO THE PROVISIONS AGAINST DANGER, REAL OR PRETENDED, FROM ABROAD."

Today's pro-Gulag vote for the NDAA proves that most congressmen know absolutely little to nothing about the Constitution.

Here we have this big Tea Party hero Allen West telling the world about communists in congress and then he votes for this procommunist bill!

Allen West and the others are helping the reds build the Gulag in America!

Was it Lenin that said communism will be built with non communist hands? The "useful idiots," he said will serve the communist well. How right he was. When West and the others in the House cast their NO VOTE to the Justin Amash - Adam Smith amendment, an amendment designed to protect American's right not to be detained indefinely, they weren't being patriots but playing right into the hands of America's haters.

These congressmen's NO VOTE translates into giving the president the same power that Stalin and Lenin had over Russians to cage them up like animals for as long as they so chose to do so!

These sorry excuses for a congressmen who VOTED NO to the Amash- Smith amendment need to feel the backlash of an informed electorate!

North Carolina Legislature latest to challenge NDAA

Submitted by lrgon on Sat, 05/19/2012 - 12:00pm.

North Carolina state legislators look upon Obama's NDAA as "repugnant and destructive" to the Bill of Rights. The National Defense Authorization Act say the state legislators is reugnant and dangerous to the constitutions of each of the various states of the Union of States. Therefore they are acting using provisions of the 10th amendment declaring the NDAA null and void within the boundaries of the state of North Carolina.

The bill states:
OPPOSITION TO THE PROVISIONS IN THE NATIONAL DEFENSE AUTHORIZATION ACT FOR FISCAL YEAR 2012 THAT AUTHORIZE, IN DIRECT VIOLATION OF THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION AND THE CONSTITUTION OF NORTH CAROLINA, MILITARY DETENTION AND TRIAL OF UNITED STATES CITIZENS AND LAWFUL RESIDENTS OF THE UNITED STATES.

The North Carolina bill( H.R. 982) targets section 1021 and 1022 of the NDAA.

Whereas Allen West and 237 other congressmen tear at the US Constitution the North Carolina legislators take a protect the Constitution approach. They view the dangerous sections of the NDAA as violations of our rights to bind the government down not loosen their power on the people. It is basic Constitution 101 to know that you can not arrest and detain citizens of the United States with no trials and due process provisions. These rights are safe guarded by the Bill of Rights of the Constitution of the United States!

Congress behaves as if the 4th ,5th, 6th and 7th amendments have been repealed! Surely they have not and surely they trump the NDAA. But they still voted for the NDAA even with sections like 1022 which gives the President the absolute and unquestionable authority to use the military as he sees fit; to go after anyone deemed “covered persons." This language will be translated to "cover" anyone, including everyone of us - citizens of the United States of America. Americans may be branded “belligerent” and incarcerated in a military prison unjustly and then where will the boisterous congressmen like West do when he is in a military jail cell right along with you?

Congress has given Obama more power than that possessed by King George the Third whom the founders Found dictatorial!

That Allen West who voted for the NDAA with the onerous 1021 and 1022 provisions dares to wave a copy of the Constitution around as if he understood it is indicative of the lack of understanding of many former military congressmen that have swore an oath to protect and defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic.

That more states begin to exert their authority and declare congressional acts like NDAA null and void needs to accelerate in order that states protect the Constitution where too many US Congressmen lack the will and the brains to defend our unique American Heritage!

With North Carolina, there are now 13 states whose legislatures are currently considering some version of anti-NDAA legislation, a fact that brings joy to all those who value our republican form of government and the freedom enjoyed by all Americans

Carson averaged about 15

Submitted by RR GOP on Fri, 05/18/2012 - 11:45pm.

Carson averaged about 15 million viewers a night..like, how many decades ago?...Leno and Letterman get less than 5 million each.

Huh.

But these corporations insist on sinking billions into these shows (and other LSM losers) even though less than 5% of the population bothers watching these shows, which are just soooo iconic according to their Libtard media pals/leeches and the Corporatists who want fervently to believe these shows are helping them to make money.

No wonder our economy's failing. These companies waste money on this BS and then cry poverty, reduce their workforce, investments and expansion.

"Under Capitalism, man exploits man.  Under Communism it's just the opposite."

"All that Communism needs to make it successful is for someone to feed and clothe it."
