Charlie Rose: Obama Campaign 'So Giddy That They Want to Run Naked'

By Matthew Balan | January 27, 2012 | 19:46

Charlie Rose boosted a jaw-dropping line from Politico's Roger Simon on Friday's CBS This Morning, which concluded that the Republican presidential debates were hurting the party's chances at defeating President Obama: "It is said that in Chicago, where they are running the Obama campaign, that they're so giddy that they want to run naked in Millennium Park" [audio available here; video below the jump].

Simon's actual sentence in his Thursday piece was more graphic:

These debates are making the Obama staffers in Chicago so giddy that after each one they are tearing off their clothes, running through Millennium Park and howling at the moon. And why shouldn't they? The American people, after being treated to hour upon hour of Republican candidates...are slowly discovering something: Barack Obama doesn't look that bad any more.

The CBS anchor made his paraphrase of the Politico writer's line in a remark to correspondent Norah O'Donnell. The head-turning remark from Rose prompted co-anchor Gayle King to laugh off-camera and reply, "That's a visual." O'Donnell also laughed, and stated that "they don't want to interfere with these debates. They think the more the American people watch these debates, they get a better understanding of their opponents, the Republicans. This president is trying to stay above the fray at this point."

Rose has certainly revealed his liberal leanings since he began his stint on the new CBS morning show. The previous morning, he took issue with Florida Senator Marco Rubio for attacking the President's State of the Union address. The journalist replied, "I saw him honoring the military of America and a lot other things where we should be coming together. That doesn't seem to be divisive."

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

On January 17, the anchor threw the race card at Newt Gingrich, hinting that the former House Speaker should apologize for a supposedly insensitive comment about food stamps. Two days later, Rose trumpeted a line from the front page of the New York Times about "Romney riches...being seen as new hurdle."

The transcript of the relevant portion of the segment on Friday's CBS This Morning, which began at the top of the 8 am Eastern hour:

Charlie Rose, CBS News Anchor | NewsBusters.orgCHARLIE ROSE: Norah, it is said that in Chicago, where they are running the Obama campaign, that they're so giddy that they want to run naked in Millennium Park-

GAYLE KING (off-camera): (laughs) That's a visual, that's a visual-

NORAH O'DONNELL: (laughs) Yeah-

ROSE: I think Roger Simon said that or some- (laughs)

O'DONNELL: They don't want to interfere- yeah, they don't want to interfere with these debates. They think the more the American people watch these debates, they get a better understanding of their opponents, the Republicans. This president is trying to stay above the fray at this point.

Yeah, and maybe they'll piss

Submitted by killa37 on Fri, 01/27/2012 - 7:55pm.

Yeah, and maybe they'll piss and defacate all over the park while they're at it - along with having public sex and doing drugs. Of course, some of them will be rifling the clothes from the naked ones for money, cigarettes, and dope...............they'll just act like their counterparts in the OWS bowel movement.

I'm not buying it. In 2008, everybody was sure that the Democratic party had been destroyed by the battle between Hillary and Obama. All we heard about was this giant schism in the party, how it was a party divided, and Hillary's supporters were going to vote for McCain because they were so upset. And that turned out just fine for the Democrats.

They've got nothing else... Too bad it will work on the uninformed.

The government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

Not at all. He hit the 80s for a stretch in 1991, but look at the numbers leading up to election time of 1992. Terrible numbers. Everyone always says Perot took Bush voters, but with Bush approval numbers as bad as they were, I don't think a wide majority of the Perot vote was a would-be Bush vote at all unless those Bush approval numbers had no real reflection of the vote.

http://webapps.ropercenter.uconn.edu/CFIDE/roper/presidential/webroot/presidential_rating_detail.cfm?allRate=True&presidentName=Bush%20(G.H.W.)#.TyNtmm1VXHQ

How he had those low numbers, yet Obama is in the mid-40s or higher is nuts. Shows how uninformed and gullible too many people are getting to be, and where our nation might be headed because of it.

".....Barack Obama does not look that bad anymore...."

That's hilarious.  And it shows how out of touch Democrats are.  Apparently, the Dem's haven't heard any of Obama's recent speeches.  His administration has been so bad that he is actually campaigning against his own record.

There will be three major candidates in the 2012 presidential election.  The GOP candidate, President Obama, and candidate Obama.   The only hope candidate Obama has of winning is to run against President Obama.

Wait till the general comes. Obama's going to get so much garbage dumped over his head that no one's going to remember what Gingrich said about Romney not being a conservative.

Fun topics to keep at the forefront:

- his disastrous record

- all the stuff from the last time around in 08 (hammer those wounds HARD): Rev. Wright, a wife who was never proud of her country, typical clinging white person, disparaging a police officer who was just doing his job, etc

- never-ending class warfare

- constant bashing of the very concept of free markets

Their giddiness is going to be short-lived.
