The anchor first accused Arpaio of arresting people at random in his immigration raids: “What about the other people that- who you interfered in their lives simply while you were looking for someone else?” When the sheriff denied that he had, that “the others that were illegal, we put them in jail because they have committed other crimes,” Sanchez made the Nazi reference:
SANCHEZ: We come back to the same question though about how you know that they were illegal if you didn’t use a method of probable cause that we are not supposed to use in this country. There are twenty-five years of laws and standards used by police departments where they’re real careful about probable cause, so that we don’t create a Gestapo environment in this country.
During an interview earlier in the month with Sanchez, Arpaio had stated that his law enforcement officials use “what type of clothes they’re wearing, their speech-they admit it; they have phony IDs,” among other variables, in determining whether a suspect is an illegal immigrant or not. The anchor replied, “You judge people and arrest them based on their speech and the clothes that they’re wearing, sir?” The sheriff clarified that “federal law specifies the speech, the clothes, the environment, the erratic behavior” can be used in making that determination.
Sanchez replayed that portion of the interview before introducing Arpaio, and claimed that “the feds say it’s not in the law.” His only evidence of this was a separate interview he conducted with Assistant Homeland Security Secretary John Morton, who only stated that “at the end of the day, I feel that the sweeps that he [Arpaio] conducts in Maricopa County aren’t consistent with our priorities as an agency, and that’s, namely, to identify and remove serious criminal aliens from the streets of Arizona.”
One might suspect that Arpaio is Sanchez’s new target, after using a false quote against Rush Limbaugh earlier in October, and having to apologize for that.

Miami television anchorman has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol in a December accident in which police say he left the scene after hitting a man and returned later.
Rick Sanchez, anchor for WSVN, was charged Friday with one count of DUI, a first-degree misdemeanor in the Dec. 10 accident outside Joe Robbie Stadium, prosecutor Kathleen Hoague said.
If convicted, Sanchez faces a maximum of six months in prison and a $500 fine.
A blood test showed Sanchez had a blood-alcohol level that night of .15 percent. A person with a .10 level is considered legally drunk in Florida.
The man Sanchez hit was critically injured and remains in a coma at North Shore Hospital.
Ms. Hoague said Friday that she thinks Sanchez was driving drunk at the time of the accident, but prosecutors decided not to charge him with causing bodily injury while driving drunk, a third-degree felony.
After the accident, Sanchez, 32, drove home to retrieve his driver's license andinsurance card.
- It pays to be a known TV anchorman/reporter in town to help you avoid prison time! In summary, Sanchez drives drunk after a football game, hits/kills a guy, leaves the scene of the accident! Doesn't have his license or insurance card with him, retrieves it from his house (nice excuse for leaving a guy to die on the street!) and blows a .15. He avoids any prison time because the DA decides not to charge him with vehicular manslaughter and leaving the scene etc....what a joke. Sanchez and Ted Kennedy had a lot in common evidently. But they still come through our neighborhood headed north.
They start occasional grass fires to draw attention from one sector while they move loads of illegals through another. Sucks if you live in the sector that has the grass fire or are grazing cattle there.
