CNN correspondent Jeanne Moos devoted an entire segment to the viral Obama as the Joker image on Tuesday’s Situation Room, and zeroed in on man-on-the-street reactions to it, all of whom expressed leftist horror at the picture. Moos herself suggested that “maybe it’s time to give the Joker joke a rest.” NewsBusters.org and Noel Sheppard's initial post about the posters made a brief appearance during her segment [audio from the entire segment is available here].
The correspondent, who is known for her light and sometimes humorous reports for CNN, chronicled how the Photoshop-style image of the president as Batman’s nemesis is spreading like wildfire on conservative websites, including the Drudge Report and NewsBusters. Throughout the report, she played clips of five men and six women whom the correspondent approached on a New York City street for their reaction to the Joker image. Unsurprisingly, all of the New Yorkers reacted negatively, from an “Oh my goodness” to “shame on them.” The last man stated that he was reminded of racist black-face comedy from the past, and the last woman even shouted, “It’s a right-wing spin- it’s disgraceful, and you shouldn’t even bring any attention to it.”
The only conservative reaction to the Joker image that Moos featured was a clip from Rush Limbaugh, who remarked that “it’s becoming cool to make fun of Obama.” The CNN correspondent called Robert Dougherty of the Associated Content blog (whom she described as a “Joker fan”) for his take, which also seems to be making its way around the Internet: “I think if you’re going to call Obama a socialist and then compare him to an anarchist- I think that undercuts your point.” Moos at least pointed out that former President George W. Bush and Hillary Clinton also had Joker images made of them.
At the end of the report, Moos herself seemed to suggest that the Obama/Joker image’s 15 minutes were up: “According to the Obama socialism wall clock, maybe it’s time to give the Joker joke a rest. Jeanne Moos, CNN, New York.”
The full transcript of Moos’s report, which aired at the end of the 6 pm Eastern hour of Tuesday’s Situation Room:
SUZANNE MALVEAUX: Well, a new image of President Obama is making the rounds, and it takes his likeness- transforms it into that of a comic book arch-villain. CNN’s Jeanne Moos checks out reactions to this ‘Moost Unusual’ image of opposition.
JEANNE MOOS: In the words of the Joker-
HEATH LEDGER (as the Joker in The Dark Knight): Why so serious?
MOOS: You’d look serious too if you were the president of the United States being portrayed as the Joker.UNIDENTIFED FEMALE 1: Oh, my god!
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE 2: Oh, my god!
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE 3: Oh, my goodness!
MOOS: Goodness and the Joker don’t usually go together, but on conservative websites, this image is the latest thing. Someone took Time magazine’s cover and transformed it. Hope was changed to joke. The image is making its way onto T-shirts- and onto a few posters alongside a highway ramp in L.A., accompanied by the word ‘socialism.’ The image got Rush Limbaugh’s attention.
RUSH LIMBAUGH (from his radio program): It’s becoming cool to make fun of Obama.
MOOS: Maybe not quite so much in New York City.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE 1: Yucky.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE 4: Extremely disturbing.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE 2: Stupid.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE 3: It seems kind of childish.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE 4: Whether you like the guy or not, you still don’t do that to anybody.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE 5: Shame on them.
MOOS: Shame doesn’t seem to be inhibiting critics.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE 5 (from YouTube video, dressed as the Joker): Bravo, Mr. President. Bravo.
MOOS: The White House had no comment on the Joker image. What do the Joker and socialism have to do with one another any way? Writer and Joker fan Robert Dougherty points out that the Joker supports anarchy.
ROBERT DOUGHERTY: I think if you’re going to call Obama a socialist and then compare him to an anarchist- I think that undercuts your point.
LEDGER (as the Joker): The only sensible way to live in this world is without rules.
MOOS: Obama critics could counter the president and the Joker tend to give away money.
JACK NICHOLSON (as the Joker from 1989 Batman movie): Hubba, hubba, hubba- money, money, money. Who do you trust?
MOOS: To cash in, the website Hero Builders plans to sell an Obama Joker action figure for 50 bucks apiece. But for some, the image is down right disturbing.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE 6: I think I do have a problem with the white face. It makes me think of black face
MOOS: Back when President Bush was in office, he got the Joker treatment- so did Hillary Clinton. (audio of Hillary Clinton cackling) But when it comes to the current president-
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE 6: It’s a right-wing spin- it’s disgraceful, and you shouldn’t even bring any attention to it. Have a nice day. Bye!
MOOS: According to the Obama socialism wall clock, maybe it’s time to give the Joker joke a rest. Jeanne Moos, CNN, New York.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE 5 (from YouTube video, dressed as the Joker): (imitates Joker’s laugh)

Al Gore destroyed all respect for the electoral process with his childish refusal to accept that he lost.
For eight years after that, the Demorats fought like demons to mock, satarize, impugn, deride and belittle President Bush. They and the media made it their mission to make sure that the office of the President was disrespected at every turn.
And now - after sixteen years of belittleing and besmirching what was once the most respected position on the Earth, the Demorats are reaping the bitter harvest of their efforts.
After their constant smear campaigns against presidents they didn't like, and their blatent cover-ups for corrupt presidents they did like, they have soured the American public on the whole concept of 'respect' for the President.
Small wonder no one respects Obama. What did they expect? They labored for over a decade to create a monster. Now they have the nerve to act sad and forlorn now that the beast has turned around and sunk it's putrid fangs into the hands that fed it.
The American people hunger to respect their President again - but first we have to make sure that we elect someone who DESERVES respect instead of a corrupt, know-nothing media-concocted pop star.

It's Never Been Wrong To Mock A President
August 4, 2009 - 21:49 ET by Intellectual HonestyI agree with the guy that said..."Whether you like this country or not, you still don't do that to any country".
After Obama's 6 month world wide apology tour, where he consstantly disparaged the US and matched it, if we were lucky, with the faintest of "you're guilty of some stuff too too" to the country he was visiting, are we really not able to make fun of the President? Lord knows, as others have said, that this is standard operating procedure for the left.
Whoever made this poster didn't do anything to this country. They exercised free speech of criticising the top dog. Now, one can argue about using nazi symbols for, say, Bush, was ok from a leftist point of view. One could say "Bush Sr. Should Have Pulled Out" and label that tasteless but it would be allowable. One could make an entire mock documentary about the assasination of not some fictional President but the current office holder and that would actually cusp the fine line of freedom of speech. But it was done and it wasn't banned. One could claim that Obama, with his support for the rationing of healthcare particuarly for the weakest of the young and old, is more in line with Nazi thinking than any Pubbie. That's an opinion and an example of free speech.
The difference though between the Dems and the Pubbies is that the Dems actually are the ones that constantly assault free speech from speech codes, hate crime laws, calling recent Town Hall protesters "extremists" when they asked simple questions like "Will you read the bill first?", etc.
In the end I think this image ticks off the left because this image alteration of Obama is the evil version created by Heath Ledger and not the silly Caesar Romero vs. or the lightly sadistic Jack Nicholson version.

The emotional instability (immaturity) of Lefties is curious. It is childlike, almost as though they stopped growing emotionally after a childhood event. Psychologists call this "fragile" though the client is capable of performing the tasks necessary for living.
Perhaps Conservatives should be more considerate displaying greater love toward their weaker brothers. This would give them space, time and an environment for wellness.

After all, politically correct liberals base their lives (and lies) around rebelling against authority and against any rules or standards - just like permanent teenagers. They have to 'fight the power'.
The white male hetero Christain is supposedly the powerful oppressor. Anybody else is the pure victim. Hence, the #1 sacrament of political correctness is reverse bigotry. That's why they'll stand up for any black who murders non-blacks - like Tookie Williams - and give awards to Jamie Foxx for glamorizing the killer.
The sickest incarnation is how the ACLU has appointed itself as the de facto lobby for child molesters. They so much hate the power of the police that they side with disgusting and brutal perverts. Criminals are, after all, the ultimate rule breakers.
The ACLU, of course, makes up looney rationales about saving the constitution, etc etc etc. But it's all really based on 'fight the power'.

The left is now making tyranical rules for the rest of us, if this were true there wouldn't be a leftists supporting this crap.
The left bases their reactions to anything, be if global warming or whatever to a pavlovian dog-like response 'what's in it for me'. Same for the state run media. Most media types always like the dictator at first, then when they are the first on the list, things go bad.

August 5, 2009 - 00:45 ET by hydrodynDMWesen,
To expand on what RayRay posted, I've found that the liberal view is basically that of a teenager.
Their view is predicated on the assumption that life should be "fair" and if it isn't, something should be done about it (taxing the "rich" and affirmative action).
They want to be able to do what they want in their personal life ("stay out of my life mom") but expect someone to be there to cover for them when things go wrong ("If you don't pay for my college, my life is ruined").
They rebel against authority as a knee-jerk reaction - not because they have any substantive idea to offer instead (which would actually point to some smarts) - but because rejecting what is established is a juvenile attempt to seem smart (um, just about every college student).

August 5, 2009 - 21:04 ET by ThoreauSome people that know his history have been calling Obama a communist, rather than a socialist, due to his Marxist teachers and friends. But he's very studied in this. He cannot be a communist because Americans would immediately revolt. He and his chief of staff know this and spelled it out in their books(The Plan.Big Ideas for America). Because of this opposition, Obama is in fact a socialist.
The only difference between a socialist and a communist is that a communist tells you that the state owns your property. A socialist doesn't, and then takes it. The end result is the same. America is bound legally to be the opposite of this. We are a Republic. Rights to property are held by the People. And it is an Individual Right.
So I disagree with the "mainstream" traitors that call themselves new channels. The Banks, Fannie/Freddie, Investment firms, Auto Industry, Missile Defense, continued War in Iraq, Social Security/Medicare/Medicaid, 43+ Czars(aka Dictators), and soon to come- your very Lives(Healthcare) are my witness. All of these things are UnConstitutional for a reason. And we'll see exactly why in the coming years. The numbers don't lie.
