Piers Morgan Says Kirk Cameron Was Being 'Deliberately Inflammatory' to Homosexuals

By Matt Hadro | March 22, 2012 | 12:05

A  A

CNN's Piers Morgan and conservative actor Kirk Cameron are still clashing over their March 2 interview where Morgan pressed Cameron on his views of gay marriage and Cameron replied that  homosexuality was "ultimately destructive" to civilization. That comment provoked a sharp outcry from liberal celebrities.

Later on in an interview with the Daily Beast, Cameron called Morgan's interview tactics "heartless" and claimed that the actual interview was 10 minutes longer than what actually aired. "They didn't hear everything I said," he insisted, referring to the CNN audience. "[W]hat I said isn’t a full representation of how I feel about the topic as a whole." [Video below the break.]

Meanwhile, Morgan shot back on Wednesday night that Cameron's take on homosexuality was "deliberately inflammatory" and "bordering on bigotry."

In the March 2 interview, Morgan asked Cameron what he thought about gay marriage. Though his guest protested that the exchange was devolving into something like Morgan's infamous interview with Christine O'Donnell, he answered that gay marriage was "unnatural."

"I believe that marriage was defined by God a long time ago," he said. And it was defined in the Garden between Adam and Eve, one man, one woman, for life, till death do you part." He added that homosexuality is "unnatural" and "it's detrimental and ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization."

On Tuesday night Morgan explained that he had no objection to Cameron "having religious principles," but did object to his "language" about homosexuality So Morgan has no problem with Cameron being religiously opposed to homosexuality, but objects to him believing that it is "destructive to civilization"?

"I don't actually object to him [Cameron] having religious principles," Morgan expressed. "I object to the language that some of these religious people use against homosexuals. You know, when they start talking about, it's the – it's destructive to civilization and all that kind of thing – it's just deliberately inflammatory, bordering on bigotry."

Cameron ripped Morgan's questioning in his Daily Beast interview, saying that the subject of homosexuality was far too deep and sensitive to be settled in a rapid-fire question-and-answer format.

How does that British fop Piers think civilizations reproduce?

Submitted by frank14 on Thu, 03/22/2012 - 12:21pm.

It's a no brainer to all but libs that all societies need to promote heterosexuality. Western Europe, Japan and Russia are already facing demographic destruction due to zero population growth.

There's plenty of anecdotal evidence...

Submitted by DumbCanuck on Thu, 03/22/2012 - 12:31pm.

...to suggest that homosexual-ITY is destructive to civilization, but not enough, in my view, to actually claim it as fact.

Morally, yes, I would agree with Kirk, but if I could play devil's advocate for a moment, one could argue (particuarly from the left) that civilization is not being destroyed by homosexuality, but mearly being transformed, and those who would say otherwise are just fear-mongering. Naturally, I reject that whole notion.

I just I wish Kirk hadn't expressed the view quite so strongly with that exclaimation point. It's enough to give the liberal-left media justification for their narrative that right-wingers really are racist, bigotted homophobes.

And I'll give a bit of a shout-out for Pierce for acknowledging Kirk's religious views as being legitimate, but I would also say that Pierce still has a long way to go if he still believes that such views, as expressed by Kirk, "borderline on bigotry".

Soft bigotry of Low Exclamations.

Submitted by CobraMan on Thu, 03/22/2012 - 1:26pm.

"I just I wish Kirk hadn't expressed the view quite so strongly with that exclaimation point."

I, for one, am glad he strongly expresses his strongly held beliefs and opinions. To do otherwise is to deny one's own individuality. Don't give into the soft bigotry of low exclamations. Don't become a soft whisper in the crowd. His opponents sure don't! Become a Martin Luther and NAIL your words to the proverbial Church Door, for that is how change is triggered.

After all, a personal belief is worthless if you're never allowed to express it as strongly as it is felt.

If there's a problem at all,

Submitted by redfish on Thu, 03/22/2012 - 7:17pm.

If there's a problem at all, it wouldn't be with gay people or homosexuality in general; most people who are gay mind their own business and just want to be left alone.

The problem would be with a very liberal attitude towards sexuality, in general, which whether applied to straight people or gay people is just an unhealthy way of looking at life. It says: you're born with desires to have sex, sex is important to life, you need sex to be happy, you need to have pride in your sexuality, expressing all of your desires is positive and good thing, and not expressing them will make you go crazy, turn into a pedophile and molest little children.

My main problem with the gay rights movement is they parrot this attitude. I don't think there are many people in America who disagree with the credo of live and let live, but that's not the conversation we're having.

At any rate, when conservatives make this about gay people, and not attitudes towards sex, it sounds incredibly stupid.

the goal is to undermine God

Submitted by OuttaMyWay on Fri, 03/23/2012 - 12:19pm.

To say that this item that is off limits, based on the authority of God, is now allowed, because it is a different time. So then what about murder, lying and envy.

i mentioned before, but will repeat again, i think that he took such a stand to say it is not just my opinion, but it is based on the authority of God and the Bible.

I wish all these atheists would get called out on the constant effort to force their humanist religion upon us. Isn't that what they always say?? they are attacking Christianity to promote Humanism. I know lots of humans, none of them would i consider a deity.

How is Cameron Inflammatory

Submitted by Tugboat Phil on Thu, 03/22/2012 - 12:37pm.

When he is answering a question that was asked? If you don't know what your guest is going to answer, don't ask the question.

I'm pretty sure Cameron was there to promote a movie. He could have stayed on that topic like he would with a liberal guest.

President Obama is a Muslim (from his own lips), Kenyan (read it from his publicist) a homosexual (read it on a news magazine cover) and a Socialist (I'm alive and can see it for myself)

CNN's Piers Morgan

Submitted by Conservator on Thu, 03/22/2012 - 12:46pm.

Don't worry, Piers. We have journalistic anti-bodies, like yourself, protecting us from "inflammatory" remarks, correct? I'm pretty sure that this is just how you see yourself: a linguistic protector of civilization, as you demean the speech of others.

Piers is too chicken to call

Submitted by motherbelt on Thu, 03/22/2012 - 2:44pm.

Piers is too chicken to call Cameron a "bigot," which is what he really thinks, but just says his remarks "border" on bigotry.

Nuance.

He's right though, any disagreement at all with the gay agenda, anything short of celebration of the gay lifestyle, is, by their definition, inflammatory.

This will serve him well when returns to Merry Old England (after the phone tapping inquisition is over and/or when CNN wakes up and realizes they've made yet another idiotic decision).

I really like Kirk Cameron

Submitted by Dan The Man 2 on Fri, 03/23/2012 - 12:34am.

I really like Kirk Cameron and his being outspoken in his views. He tells it like it is. He basically gave up a Hollywood career for Christ. In his latest flick he would not even kiss another woman who is not his wife; the boy has mad conviction.
