Nicolle Wallace: 'Heaven Forbid' Palin Becomes President

By Mark Finkelstein | December 01, 2010 | 10:29

A  A

Suggesting that Nicolle Wallace engaged in feline fisticuffs might be called sexist. But when Wallace actually accused Sarah Palin of seeking to "claw" critics, illustrating her assertion with a cat-like hand gesture, well . . .

It's no secret that Wallace is no fan of Sarah Palin.  But the former Bush communications director and McCain campaign aide perhaps took things to another level with her attack on Palin on today's Morning Joe. Wallace was on to comment on Joe Scarborough's astonishing claim of yesterday, noted here, that "all" conservatives and talk radio hosts with whom he's spoken are harshly critical of Palin off the record, but are afraid to express their views publicly.

Wallace opined that if it ever looked as if Palin were close to copping the Republican presidential nomination, many GOP leaders who have to date been too timid to criticize her would step forward to expose Palin's putative shortcomings. In the course of propounding her theory, Wallace unleashed a hail of criticism of her own:

  • "Mistakes were made [by McCain in choosing Palin]."
  • "Her troubling deficiencies."
  • "Her incredible cynicism, her bitterness, her aggressive attempts to claw [makes clawing hand-gesture] anyone" who criticizes her.
  • "Very prickly, very cynical."
  • "Heaven forbid, the leader of the free world."

Wallace asserted that Republicans hesitate to criticize Palin publicly for fear of angering Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, whom Nicolle claimed to admire. Watch Wallace go after Palin.  She who is not bitter, cast the first claw?

The segment began with a clip of McCain speaking positively about Palin's role in the 2010 elections and predicting she will also play a positive role in 2012.

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: I would love to hear the truth.  I'd love for him to just let it go. You know, and just be like, "you know, I was wrong" [in choosing Palin as my running-mate.] It was a mistake.

NICOLLE WALLACE: Mistakes were made.

. . .

I believe that if she were on the cusp of becoming the nominee for the Republican party a whole lot of people--Mark Halperin can probably name them all--would probably talk about some of her more troubling deficiencies.

. . . .

I think that what Joe wrote about yesterday, her incredible cynicism, her bitterness, her aggressive attempts to claw anyone who points out an area for her to work on--I think these things will continue to reveal herself.

. . .

Let me tell you why no one will take her on.  Her defenders and supporters, the likes of Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, people I admire, are so powerful on the right that nobody wants to anger these people; nobody wants to end up in the cross-hairs.

. . .

I think her nature has been revealed lately as very prickly, very cynical.

. . .

I really believe that if looked like she were about to become the nominee, or heaven forbid the leader of the free world, a whole lot of people would stand up and say a whole lot of things.

MIKA: All right, best-selling author Nicolle Wallace. Her book, Eighteen Acres, it's great.  There's a female dog in it named Mika: and I know you meant nothing by that, right? Love it.

WALLACE: Mika is the president's favorite living creature.

MIKA: Female dog.

Here's the lesson here folks

Submitted by bsny on Wed, 12/01/2010 - 10:36am.

Palin is a lightweight of the highest order and cannot win the presidency, as evidenced by prominent Republicans who are saying as much.  Perception is everything. She cannot win over the independents such as myself who are going to determine the next president. Want to guarantee Obama wins in 2012 - it's simple - let the Republicans nominate Palin!

Submitted by bassndude on Wed, 12/01/2010 - 11:14am.

bsny, you expose yourself with your list. Anyone that votes for Romney, is a liberal and is voting for nationalized health care. Second, you say you would vote for Gingrich but not Palin if nominated, your previous claim cannot be taken seriously. Gingrich is as far to the right as Palin. He is just more political. More polished is all.

If Palin is the nomination, most people are going to vote for her. And if not "for" her, then they will vote "aginst" Obama.

You called Palin a political light weight that cant win. Well, suprise. Obama is the ultimate light weight. He is the laughing stock of the world leaders and he carries no weight in the leaderships eyes.

Exactly bsny! Obama won. A political light weight, laughing stock of the world. Palin is not a moron. She has a lot of good ideas. Ideas I agree with. Ideas to create jobs and reduce, or eliminate the need of Arab oil. You should read up.

And by your own admission here, if Obama can win, Palin can win.

In this political world, there are conservitives and liberals. Your one or the other. Call youself what ever you want, but somewhere along the line you come down on one side or the other. Those that sit the fence, sooner or later, fall off. And all they have to show for it is a sore crotch.

I'm not one who really thinks Palin will get the nomination but I was curious about your earlier comment.  You are saying that between President Obama and Palin you would vote for Obama.  Is this based on accomplishments, his experience (now that he will be President for four years) despite the results of his programs or just because he is not Palin?

Basically in what way do you think she would be worse than President Obama?

I'm an independent and I'd never vote for Barack Obama. I voted against Obama a few weeks ago, and I'll do it again in a couple of years whether his opponent is Palin or Mike Pence of whomever.

But what you're saying is that you're still going to vote for Barack Obama in 2012? You've learned nothing over the past 2 years and you want to repeat the same mistakes? So you're not really an independent per se. You're a democrat-socialist.

Submitted by Agnostic on Wed, 12/01/2010 - 7:20pm.

also Gingrich is credited by many for playing a prominent role in the big surge of conservatism in the 80's and as the architect of the Contract with America.  People still associate his time in leadership as a time when the nation was turning back from the malaise of the 70s.

You are right that there is no room for sexism in the 21st Century and while it does exist we shouldn't let it blind us from accuracy.

"Even though I acknowledge that the media will use any lie and any trick to assassinates the character of anyone seen as a threat to the leftwing agenda, I think Palin is not up to the job because the media has told me so.  Come 2012 we need to find a real conservative that can gain the media's approval because, as we all know, the media won't assassinate the character of this currently unknown conservative!  In fact, this one they'll treat honestly and fairly!"

Honestly, if Obama were to win the 2012 election due to the pop-culture logic behind the hatred of Palin, then we as a nation don't deserve liberty, prosperity, or the sacrifices of our forefathers.  We as a people would deserve the oppression that we voted for.

Come 2012 the media will be in full force "assasinating"  Obama's Republican opponent. Those who buy into the Palin smears  will also buy into the coming character assasination of the GOP standard bearer.

So just say it. I'm going to vote for Obama.  Romeny, Gingrich or whoever else is nominated will face a similar Palin press onslaught. They will do it again because it worked the first time.

Rusty, wow.   Your post is right on the money.  When I ask people who hate Sarah Palin to explain what it is about her that is soooo bad I hear this ever growing list of media tested strawmen.

I want her to run (and win), but between now and Nov 2012, there is going to be a media 24/7 campaign of hate towards her -- unlike anything we have ever see before.   I know she has the mettle, I am just not sure I do.   It pains me to see women like Wallace and Mika pull out the claws and sit around with a group of men and just trash her and her family.  There wasn't anything of substance on deficiencies.   It's not even debated, it is just stated like fact that these deficiencies exist, and therefore, Palin is unsuitable.   But "independents like me" will do our best to help the woman who is singlehandly fighting Obama.

Now she is out in the open as a rat. And what about her accomplice? That other f**king rat called Mark McKinnon.... did he not just announce he was working with a Democrat to form a new party to be led by Michael Bloomberg? Wasn't he another smear artist who leaked lies about Sarah during the campaign and afterwards wrote a book smearing her with unsubstantiated lies?

Republican Blue Bloods "elitists" no different then liberals

Submitted by maxvolt on Wed, 12/01/2010 - 12:14pm.

This "bsny" clown if he/she isnt really a liberal, is clearly amongst those that have infiltratetd the republican party.  Just as the democrat party was once  a great that has been 100% infiltrated by America Hating, Freedom Loathing, "self" involved socialists, the republican party is running about 40-50% infiltration right now...if you aren't paying attention you will watch your country go completely socialist right under your own noses, on your watch...and how much of a disgrace will that make you and this current generation, to future generations who will have to spill their blood to get back to the freedoms our creator God endowed us with, but you a feabile weak minded human allowed other humans to STEAL from you and your own children.  This is the price of lethargy and idiocy...the price will be future blood of innocents because of your inaction now to drive out the traitors from amongst us..the anti-constitutionalists are in power and you act like its politics..it aint politics...its TREASON.

Our political system has OBVIOUSLY been infiltrated by traitors seeking to destroy America...and YOUR STILL in denial. WAKE UP...for the love of your own children, wake up!

1.  America is the greatest nation the world has ever seen, and that is saying a lot, because a lot of great nations have risen..and fallen before we ever existed.

2. The foundation of the United States went under the basic premise that WE are created by GOD. Our rights and freedoms come from GOD, not from men.  therefore no man has a right to take away any God given right from a free people of God...Not any man has that right. This is captured in our Declaration of Independence.

3. Our founders then established a government to run under that prime directive identified in the Declaration of Independence, and laid the framework for the law by which the free men of the new nation would keep their Government in check.  Note:  You sleepersa out there may have not noticed, but somehow YOU have allowed GOVERNMENT to be in control and have ceded your own liberty in doing so.  Face it, today WE FEAR OUR Government...a condition Thomas Jefferson reffered to as "TYRANNY".  Jefferson made it clear that the democracy could only exist if the Government FEARED the people...there is NO FEAR of the people in this Government, in fact they are stripping you of your God Given rights to self defense and free speech every day...and you let them...Instead of hoisting them from a tree for their treason, you elect to shrug your shoulders, inviting more of the tyrants to run for office.  How far we have fallen from the nation we once were..UNDER YOUR WATCH.

4.  Our founders made mandatory an "Oath of Affirmation" that every elected official must swear before taking office.  we call it the Oath of Office.  We all know what the oath says..Preserve, protect and uphold the US Constitution...etc etc., but you have never reasone why the oath was put into the Constitution as mandatory...simple, it was the vehicle by which you capture the traitors and serve justice upon them.  they swore an oath to preserve..protect and to uphold that US Constitution, yet you elected a man to office who openly proffessed the US Constitution waqs flawed in that it didnt give him the power he needed over you the minion...and you still elected him..by the way you can hear it on you tube right out of Barry's own mouth.  Folks that statement made by him was a disqualifying statement by any person hoping to run for dog catcher let alone president...but YOU still elected him.

Bottom line our founders gave us the tools to change this Government TODAY if we wanted?  Did you know that?  You can charge a senator and congressman with treason, even a president, and all you have to do is show Suptreme Court decision showing any law they signed as UNCONSTITIONAL, and they are guilty of TREASON...remember, if you go to court ..ignorance of the law is no excuse, if YOU break the law they convict YOU period...Show them the real power of the US Constitution, the evidence of their tyranny is already written in black and white in Supreme Court decisions.

oh , one more thing, what is the punishment for treason?  Dont you think making examples of a few of these clowns would send a huge wake up call to any future traitors?

When all these "independents" start saying that Palin can WIN, then I'll start to worry.

If someone is so shallow that they would vote for a rat bastard Fascist SOB over ANYBODY ELSE, I really worry about the Republic.  We will go down in flames as a nation with voters who think like that.  Kind of reminds me of the Roman Empire, where "the people" rallied around the leader by who put on the best "slaughter" in the coliseum.

Palin scares the hell out of dumbocrats.  That tells me she's my girl.  If they hate and fear her that much, you gotta like her! I used to have to listen to this kind of crap from liberals and "independents" in NC every time Jesse Helms ran.  There was NO WAY he could win.  All the polls said so!  Guess what?  He never lost an election, and he never changed his ways

I cannot wait until the day after she wins the election to see all these catty bitches hocking up hair balls as they try to explain what happened.

So here's the bottom line, folks.  If enough of us are stupid enough to vote for this loser, Palin, she wins.  Choke on it, you FIINO's!

It worked on Palin also, right up till they made the mistake of letting her be heard without edits.

Rove Is Mouthpiece for the Bush Wing of the GOP

Submitted by BW222 on Wed, 12/01/2010 - 12:58pm.

Rove's goal is to ensure that Jeb Bush becomes President in 2016. The Bush (Moderate) Wing of the GOP is currently backing Romney because they realize the Bush name is still toxic. My guess is that they have worked out a deal with Mitt: The Establishment GOP backs  Mitt and if he wins, he steps aside in 2016 and endorses Jeb.

After all, Mitt just wants to be President because it's something that isn't checked on his "to do" list.

If Palin becomes President, she'll torch those plans with a flame thrower and Rove won't even be allowed on the Gray Line White House tours.

It comes to one word.

Submitted by ninerdog on Wed, 12/01/2010 - 11:15am.

It comes to one word. Control. The GOP has no control of this woman. If she becomes president and is not in their control they will lose. Doubt me. Look at what she did in Alaska. She destroyed a RINO. Gave the power of the state back to the people. If she ever got into the oval office she would destroy the RINO leaders of the GOP and give us our country back. What would they have? Nothing. Most of these “powerful” people are not qualified to have a paper rout. This is where the PDS comes from. On both sides there terrified of being exposed by her. We the people (most of us) see her for what she is. Look at what the GOP did to O’Donnell. They had no control over her because she did not need their money for her campain. What did they do? They worked against her at every turn to defeat her. Sara can expect the same treatment.

Hey Blond. I think it will depend on how far the old guard is willing to go. Are they willing to show themselves for what they are to the American people. I also think it will depend on the people recognizing them for what they are. Remember Rove showed himself for what he is and people were behind him that did not see what he is. The MSM has done a very good job of cover for the RINO=L for so long people think of them as conservatives.

Republican Rats now out in the open

Submitted by philipjames on Wed, 12/01/2010 - 11:16am.

Now that the rat Mark McKinnon is openly helping create a new party for Michael Bloomberg right along with some Democrats and now that this skank Nicole Wallace is saying in public what she was from the shadows back in 2008 and 2009....

we see who the rats in the Republican Party were.

These two were some of the rats who were spreading smears about Sarah Palin.... and denying it in 2009.................  iif you ever wondered what the Republican Establishment is like then all you have to do is look at these two Republican Rats.

Stinky, smelly, sewer dwelling rats....  McKinnon and Wallace. Screw them. And these two rats were deep in the McCain campaign and were partially responsible for that disaster. Should we be asking if they f**ked that up on purpose?

Only another woman can handle the female of the species like Nicolle Wallace, Mika, Katie, et al.  We've dealt with them since elementary school and we know them at their core.  As a psychiatrist once said, "In Nature, some mothers eat their young."   The Nicolle Wallace's of the world are consumed by envy, but they get away with it because men won't call them on it and they only seek out like-minded, equally b**chy female cohorts.  Palin may or may not become the GOP nominee, or she may just be the stalking horse, but Wallace and McKinnon submarined her throughout McCain's run, yet she was the only reason many of us could even hold our noses and vote Republican in 2008.

As for Mark McKinnon, he's a snake.  Any Republican who trusts McKinnon's group to run his campaign has a fool for a client.  Let McKinnon work with Bloomberg, he'll soak that billionaire and achieve nothing for him.  If Bloomberg runs, I want the GOP to demand that he repatriate the billions of dollars he's got in offshore tax havens and explain to the American people why THEY should pay more in taxes while he skates because of offshore tax havens, taking advantage of every tax loophole possible, and employing tax lawyers who charge $700 an hour to manage his affairs.  Do, Mr. Bloomberg, explain that to "We the People!"

Why vote for her?

Submitted by jon_torlin on Wed, 12/01/2010 - 11:16am.

I can think of a few good reasons to vote for her, and I make no secret that I am a fan of Palin.  My most favorite reason is having seen the videos of when she was governor, how she went to Kuwait to visit her national guard troops that were there, and you could tell they really appreciated her.  They even went so far to let her fire one of their weapons and she didn't flinch and was nailing the target dead center(wish there had been more video of that).  That's a positive mark of a leader.

She reminds me of Bush(yes, I know there were a few problems but compared to now?) that she says what she means and she means what she says.  She has good values, she's got a good sense of ethics, common sense, which for some reason scares the liberals real bad.

I really think she would be a good president because she's not afraid to make decisions.  And she's tough, which we really need right now.

"Learn from History"

Submitted by mad53PA on Wed, 12/01/2010 - 11:25am.

The simple fact of the matter is that Palin alone will prove whether or not she is qualified to be President. In 2007, an unaccomplished junior Senator from Illinois declared his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for President. No doubt there were many at the time who believed he was not qualified (just ask Hillary Clinton). Obama went out and campaigned, debated, gave speeches and at the end of the day took on all comers and won, whether you agree with him or not.

Sarah Palin is in the very same position. I say, if she wants to run, then have at it. She like Obama will compete, give speeches, debate other candidates and take the shots that will come her way. When all is said and done, if she wins then trust me she will be battled hardened and ready for the general election. If she doesn't convince the primary voters, then she'll endorse the winner and campaign for whomever the nominee will be.

But, she has every right to run and those who under estimate her do so at their own peril. I would also point out to her detractors that she currently holds no public office, has not declared herself in charge of the Republican Party nor Tea Party for that matter. She has been labeled by the MSM as such, but has done nothing more than politic for people and causes she believes in. She does not need to give interviews, 30 minute speeches on the START Treaty or the economy. In fact her message of "How's that hopey, changey thing workin out for you" captures the mood of the country and that my friends is all she needs to do right now.

I'm not convinced she can be elected President, but I'm sure as hell open to her giving it a try.

And for all the Palin-bashing conservatives out there, you really need to start backing up your misgivings with some facts.  I fear that we're seeing the W media strategy being used again to discredit Palin.  Repeat "W/Palin is stupid" enough times, over and over again, until people believe it and say it reflexively, with no thought.  And sadly, it seems to be working.  If you want to use the "prominent Republicans don't like her" argument, consider that many of these people were responsible for "the new tone" and "compassionate conservatism" that did such wonders for the GOP's popularity, and thus burned their conservative street cred 10 years ago.

Submitted by amyshulk on Wed, 12/01/2010 - 11:41am.

This snarkfest of a show is trying so hard to tell us what to think.

When Palin was picked for VP, I remember finding it funny and smart, but doomed.

Then they told us the GOP was trying to siphon off Hilary voters - huh??? I never understood why they thought women were like blacks/latinos and would fall for identity politics.

In fact, Hilary never had a chance either *because of* identity politics - telling us over and over how women get paid less, hit glass ceilings, etc. - this was supposed to inspire us???

I'll tell you what they did accomplish - getting me to take Palin seriously. So seriously that after never having voted, I finally went for it.

For every "independent" that allows themselves to be brainwashed by the same MORONS who ushered O to the stage, there are those of us who are sick to death of their snide putdowns and who can think for purselves - I just hope there are more of us awake this time!!!

The only people I hear speculating a bout Palin '12 are libs who know how to score points by putting words in other peoples mouths and then smacking them over the head with it.

Let's Just Make The Point

Submitted by Maestroh on Wed, 12/01/2010 - 12:08pm.

It's not like I even care, but I'm more than a tad bit amused at the left-wing's obssession with Sarah Palin. At least when Dan Quayle was being bashed for four years, the justification was that he was actually IN OFFICE and one heartbeat from the Presidency. But I've never seen a figure so reviled for so little.

Let's get something straight: the libs who guarantee she would lose (Chris-teen Mathews, Ed Schulz) don't give a hoot about conservatives in the first place. So why in the world would they insist "somebody else" has to get the nomination in order for Reps to have a chance? Truth is they're frightened to death of her.

I'm going to make a simple point here: EVERY single election the Democrats say the Reps ought to offer a more "mainstream" candidate. And when the Reps mess up and actually take the advice of Democrats and put in a moderate TWO things happen: 1) The Democrats demonize who they previously said was mainstream as "radical" or "right-wing;" 2) The Republicans lose every single time (see Dole 96, McCain 08).

Since they're going to demonize you as a radical, you might as well nominate one they've already so labeled.

Besides - their REAL fear is that unlike 2008, Obama won't be an empty suit with a maple leaf resume; he'll be the incumbent with a record to defend that someone with a tad bit of attitude could tear to shreds. And they know Palin has no second thought about doing it.

Qualifications? Don't get me started.

    MORE WHACK A PALIN

Submitted by Geez Louise on Wed, 12/01/2010 - 12:14pm.

It appears that the MEDIA spends so much energy whacking Palin who is at this time, merely a Celebrity, is that it is a LOT EASIER to disparage her than it is to DEFEND their Guy, who sits behind the Oval desk in the White House, looking for his teleprompter.

I don't know that Palin is more-or-less qualified to be President than Obama. His resume was certainly thin with the MAJOR exception that he had the ENDORSEMENT of the Political Elites and the Media.

Palin came in as an Outsider, and not only that, has the effrontery to be proud of it. She's figured out that she'll never be asked to pledge the fraternity/sorority, and yet has managed to capture more print and media coverage daily than any other political figure with perhaps the exception of the President.

    There's something to be said

    Submitted by shannon76 on Wed, 12/01/2010 - 12:39pm.

There's something to be said for the idea that when the dust settles and the choices become clear between two candidates (Palin vs. Obama) that independent voters would have to think carefully about what exactly it is that they want. It's easy for me. I think of the role of government and the principles of the constitution. Easy choice.

If there are independent voters who would still pull the ballot for Obama after the last two years, then God help us. Obama still has a 46% approval rating on Rasmussen (that's way too high). So there are still independents out there who are willing to say they approve of this man's record.

Now, the sad reality is a Mike Pence may not get as butchered  in the media down the stretch of a presidential campaign as a Palin. A non-Palin candidate might have a better shot at having a campaign be about issues rather than personality; in which case, conservative ideas win. A non-Palin candidate would be less inflammatory. The MSM might be gentler on a non-Palin candidate. And there are independent voters who might be less inclined to vote if it's between Obama and a non-Palin. But if it's about personality, then anything can happen (including an Obama victory). Most independent voters would have to decide who they dislike the least.

The truth is, Palin's ideas should win no matter what. It doesn't matter how she articulates herself if she's right on her worldview; which is to say, her worldview resonates with more people than Obama's. The problem is most people watch ABC/CBS/NBC and the Obama mirage will always resonate with media figures and pundits.

    Look, I like Gov. Submitted by WarEagle01 on Wed, 12/01/2010 - 5:00pm.
