Always irreverent, Tucker Carlson seems freer than ever to aim a few jabs at his network and the people that work there. On today's Morning Joe, Tucker landed a one-two punch. With all the talk focusing on Detroit, Carlson let the cat out of the bag that NBC is implementing layoffs of its own. Tucker played off that news, tweaking Chris Matthews along the way, by announcing that he too was planning a Senate run, one in which a bailout of the news networks would be the centerpiece.
Tucker, an unreconstructed libertarian, spoke in opposition to the Detroit bailout. After observing that capitalism without failure is like religion without sin, he made his tongue-in-cheek announcement.
TUCKER CARLSON: Can I just suggest one thing? The news networks, including this one, are laying off all kind of people, because --
MIKA BRZEZINSKI [sighing]: Yeah.
CARLSON: you know, they're under financial pressure. Where is the bailout for us? I mean, I'm going to make this the centerpiece of my Senate campaign. There are industries that aren't just --
BRZEZINSKI [feigning shock]: Is there something you want to tell us?
CARLSON: At a future time. I'm just toying with it right now.

Great News
December 5, 2008 - 09:27 ET by AJBAs the parent of two special needs children (one rides the 'short' bus, if you know what I mean), I want to thank Carlson and Chris Matthews for being such a great role models for my children. I can now tell them that, even with their low IQs, they too can be talk show hosts and even run for Congress. Yes, indeed, these two have proven the bar is on the ground for talking news heads and congressmen! God Bless what's left of America!
even run for Congress . . .
December 5, 2008 - 09:39 ET by Gat New YorkYou need to also include not just talk show pundits but bad stand up comics and bad actors.
Ok, whats the "short bus"?
December 5, 2008 - 09:52 ET by nwahsI honestly have no idea, what is the "short bus"?
Edit: I googled it and found this:
ride the short bus
34 up, 9 down
V. A derrogatory phrase derived from the smaller school bus used to
ferry special education students to and from school. 1) To act in an
immature or stupid way. 2) To be an immature or stupid person. 3) To
drive an especially large S.U.V.
Johnny is such a dumbass, he definitely rides the short bus.
I don't understand why the use of such a term is needed to convey you have special needs kids. You don't believe the average reader here would understand "I have two special needs kids"?
Geez Edith, do I have to explain everything to you?
December 5, 2008 - 09:58 ET by AJBIt was to make a point that these talking news heads have room temperature IQs and they think they can run for congress. JUST what we need, Chris Matthews making laws for us.
And so you know, not all special needs children have low IQs, hence the comment.
Anything else I can help you out with?
I just find it peculiar
December 5, 2008 - 10:18 ET by nwahsI just find it it peculiar to use a derogatory image in order to adequately describe your child. I think MOST people would find that peculiar. I also find the use of special needs children in this thread, odd. Its almost like "The bar is so low my special needs child has hope to compete."
I dunno. My son had a learning disability and I would be eyebrow to eyebrow with anyone who used him in such a context. And yes, I know he's very intelligent. He learns differently. I get it, Edith. I don't get the use in this instance, but thats me.
ok...
December 5, 2008 - 10:23 ET by AJBI understand your point. I also understand the heartaches of special needs children, but also understand the true joy and love in their spirit. I also understand we are in a culture that is offended by everything. I make no disparaging remark about your children, or special needs children in general. I choose to use very low IQ reference because these talking heads have very low IQs. And as such, you don't see them as good role models?
If they're your kids, I
December 5, 2008 - 10:26 ET by marpelIf they're your kids, I think you can describe them any way you want. If a person is offended by your comment, it's still not their place to challenge the parent who made the comment. Too many over-sensitive people in this world....PC Police Alert.
Carry on...
You can do whatever you want
December 5, 2008 - 10:50 ET by nwahsYou can write whatever you want. You CAN'T write whatever you want and sound authentic. Its not a matter of political correctness. Its a matter of ferreting out BS and idiocy.
There may be a few parents who would say "The people on TV are so dumb, my special needs child with a low IQ can hope to compete for their job." But I guarantee, they're few, not too bright, and probably damage their child's self-esteem on a daily basis.
Now are we going to pretend, using special needs children , is a good way to make a point about incompetent TV personalities?
shoulda seen...
December 5, 2008 - 13:16 ET by AJB... what I wrote to Pelosi. And, yes, I think a reference to low IQ news readers is spot on, otherwise I would not have made it. And my children are doing just fine, thank you.
Matthews & low bar
December 6, 2008 - 23:08 ET by DanSchwartzMy son had a learning disability and I would be eyebrow to eyebrow with anyone who used him in such a context.
Wow! Chrissy really gets under your skin for you to say that!

Libertian could be...
December 5, 2008 - 09:33 ET by jackie3The new Republican.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large groups.
I am a registered Libertarian
December 5, 2008 - 10:37 ET by SQL_SamWelcome to the light. I find it funny that most "republicans" refer to my party's beliefs when it suits them (or they're trying to get elected), but never follow through (big government being one of them). Libertarian is all about personal responsibility, something I dont see in either of the two monopoly parties, it's all about how much money they can rob from the taxpayers. I just wish we could get some viable runners that might get elected (I didn't vote Ron Paul because of his affiliation with the "loose change" nutbags). Unfortunately we'll never see a third party candidate in this "two party" system as they have bent the rules in both there favor - I blame Repbulicans a lot for this......
It's too bad the NBC
December 5, 2008 - 09:54 ET by Captain RepusIt's too bad the NBC layoffs have come up one cable network short.
This entire cast of fools should be fodder for the soup lines. Other than steering the uneducatable masses into electing an empty-suited socialist, this cable network with a combined staff IQ slightly above plant life brings nothing of value to society.
