The Associated Press has long been a bastion of liberal bias. But has it now sunk to the level of a left-wing blog in the throes of Palin Derangement Syndrome? Yes, suggests the Morning Joe folks. In a rare bit of unanimity, the panel condemned and ridiculed AP for its "analysis" item, "Palin's words carry racial tinge." According to Douglass K. Daniel, the item's author, Palin's criticism of Barack Obama for his association with Ayers somehow carries "a racially tinged subtext." See Warner Todd Huston's earlier discussion here.
Mika Brzezinski questioned the strategic wisdom of the McCain campaign's playing of the Ayers card, but even she joined in the excoriation of the AP.
View video here.
JOE SCARBOROUGH: It is a dark day for American journalism when the AP itself plays the race card, talking about how Sarah Palin, the Republican, is somehow launching a racially-tinged attack by bringing up a white, domestic terrorist. This is embarrassing. I am embarrassed for the AP, Willie, and I have absolutely no idea where they're coming from.
Willie Geist, normally reluctant to express strong opinions, weighed in.
WILLIE GEIST: Joe, let me say first, I agree with you totally.
After Willie read a bit more from the AP piece, Joe made the unkindest cut of all.
SCARBOROUGH: Is this Daily Kos or is this the Associated Press, which is supposed to be the bedrock of American journalism? Whoever the editor was on the Washington desk who allowed that to go out should be embarrassed for themselves because they have a venerable institution. Again, on which journalism seems to be founded, and they're allowing these type of attacks in the middle of a campaign. It is an embarrassment for the AP, Mika.MIKA BRZEZINSKI: I agree they screwed up.
Mika went on to argue that Palin's attack was bad political strategy since it opened the door for the Obama McCain to raise McCain's Keating Five connection and various Palin affiliations. But Pat Buchanan opined that going after Obama's Ayers connection was not merely justified, it was necessary if McCain wants to win.
PAT BUCHANAN: It’s perfectly legitimate to take up the issue of John McCain’s real misjudgments back there 15 years ago in the Keating Five case from which he was exonerated. But if the Republicans and the conservatives don’t peel the hide off of Barack Obama, and portray him as what they believe he is, based upon hard evidence: his associations with Reverend Wright, Rezko and Mr. Ayers, which show terrible judgment on his part, they’re going to lose the election. I don’t think they ought to take the advice of the mainstream media, which I don’t think wishes them well, frankly. So I’ve got no problems at all with this.

October 6, 2008 - 08:03 ET by motherbeltIs this Daily Kos or is this the Associated Press...
There's a difference?
Pat Buchanan hit the nail on the head....Obama stuck with a hateful preacher for 20 years, admitted he made a "boneheaded decision" to get involved with Tony Rezko, and disregarded Ayers' (not too distant) past.
And when you come right down to it, he made all these decisions for the sake of gaining political power!
What does that say about his character?
MB,
October 6, 2008 - 08:28 ET by Indiana Joe"What does that say about his character?"
Ooh, ooh, I know! ;^)
Seriously, there is literally tons of this stuff laying around, but the Obamanauts don't care. And I don't just mean his campaign. I made a hard decision last night, and jettisonned a "friend."
This lady wanted to "debate the issues" about Obama, and considered a link to a poll and a pic of the Mile-High "coronation" as "facts." I pointed out one story, Obama's lie about the sex-ed bill, and how it really did call for teaching K'garteners about STDs. That's true, and it's documented. She responded by calling me "full of bigotry," and suggested we don't have anymore contact until after the election. I guess she didn't consider her slander to be a big deal, I'd get over it. Ri-iiight...
Well, maybe I lost it a little, but I told her I didn't need a friend who thought that little of me, and she didn't need a "bigot." I pointed out that her idea of a "fact" was completely turned around. She hadn't even researched the story. She claimed that she preferred to get her "facts" from the candidates' websites. Obama's anyway, she didn't mention McCain. How do you convince someone like that? I ended up telling her she was a "sheep," and not to bother with any further contact. I sent her the 2nd draft, because the first was pretty over-the-top, filled with hurt, anger and pain. But the point was the same.
For over 30 years, we've been through a lot (strictly friends, but real "thick & thin," literal life-and-death stuff), but she just Obama'd me, threw me right under the bus with the "bigot" charge for daring to criticize Obama, her "guy," as she called him. And thoughtlessly attacked me, with the presumption that it was no big deal, because it was "just politics," I'm sure.
How do you counter that kind of mind-set? And how much is it happening to people every day, as they emulate what they see from Obama and the media? This may be the most divisive campaign I've ever had the dis-pleasure to live through.
And it's just entering the 4th quarter.

Right. Just like the mafia used to bump off their friends...it's not personal...it's "business."
I'm sorry you had to lose a friend over a phony suit like Obama. Yea, even the empty suit is phony! Just shows you how enraptured Obama fans are: that she would call someone she's known for 30 years a bigot, just for disagreeing with him.
Yeah, well
October 6, 2008 - 09:18 ET by Indiana JoeI don't need friends like that, is my thinking. But multiply that out. Imagine all the Obamanauts out there who are buying into this "racism" BS. Who is it hurting? Americans, I'd say, if not America. Who is it helping? One person. Just one.
And that person, the candidate of "tolerance." and "change," and "hope," is the only one who is pushing this topic, feeding the flames. He and his followers. The only ones.
This kind of "change," America can do without.

Indiana Joe
October 6, 2008 - 11:14 ET by misterbillSorry it happened---family and friends are , usually, the mix that makes life enjoyable. America is populated with people who believe they are going to "right" the world for all of its past sins. What better thing can you do than to elect a person of the race that was brought here as slaves?????? What great and noble purpose.
What bullshot--there's more smoke coming out their pieholes than intellectual reasoning in their heads. I am at the stage where I just don't give a hoot anymore. I cannot believe how many a**ho**s there are in America. These silly bastards are helping a non-American, (nothing to do with birth, ancestry, religion or any of those issues). It deals with his anti-American attitude. His past is loaded with actions that are intended to destroy our culture. I never thought I would live to say this--I don't give a rodent's derriere if he is elected, he will never be my president.
Here's my problem --the other candidate, named McCain, has the destruction of America as his plan also. Unlike the Muslim, McC wants to convert America to a global entity. His efforts are not hate of country. They arise from a belief that it will make America better. Yet, in the long run, nay, even the short run, he is dangerous to America. He and BHO will balkanize us as quickly as can be done, no matter who gets elected.
The major difference to me is that McCain is motivated by the belief that the world will be a better place without borders. And he is right , in one sense, only. The sense that those who reap that benefit , from Guatemala, Mexico, Brazil, China, India, etc, will benefit. The only losers are Americans. (And not all, some businessmen who don't give two figs about this country will see profits rise for them.)
Me, I will risk my life to support America. Many of us have already done that once, and as old as we are , we are willing to do it again.
The "do gooders' will cause irreparable harm that may never be able to be fixed. There is nothing dumber than to wallow in misplaced compassion and elect those who will destroy us.
In closing, I am now a misfit in my country. A man who feels the well being of his countrymen is paramount to personal gain. It is small comfort, coming here, to NB, to know I am not alone. There are 300 million in our country and many, many of them think they are doing something noble by voting for a man of color.
"Bailout" illustrates severe weakness of republic
October 6, 2008 - 13:29 ET by Ten7sI dispair for our country. The passage of the "Bailout" over the objections of 90%+ of the people clearly illustrates the weakness of our republic. And the people were right again, as the "Bailout" has done nothing but tie our hands and limit our ability to react when the inevitable happens.
We seem to be on a path that will destroy the republic, one we've followed for 40+ years on which we crossed the rubicon around 1993. Over the next century our country will become either an empire within a democratic shell or another failed state, but it won't continue as a republic.
As you mentioned, the two opposing political forces that push us are very evidently symbolized by the candidates in this election, Obama and his minons who would disintegrate our country and McCain and his supporters who would seek to expand us out of existence.
The interplay of these two political forces will determine our direction, but maybe not in the obvious ways. Either force could take us to either distination, and Obama could lead us to such ruin (or at least set that stage) within 8 years, as overplaying his anti-American hand during the looming and likely crises could lead to total collapse of the current order and overreaction from the opposing side (w/ an unforseeable outcome).
I was in a "discussion' with a co-worker about this
October 6, 2008 - 13:59 ET by UndercoverConservativeuntil it became apparent that I wasn't having a discussion, I was facing a religious zealot, a missionary for the Religion of Obama. Nothing of fact, common sense, of printed websites or documentated video, could change his mind. Biden's "tear jerker" response to health care was considered his "ya gotta give it to him" moment, even though it had nothing to do with the question.
Funny, Christians are considered "fundamentalist Bible-thumpers who have "turned of" critical thinking....is this more psychological projection of what is really going in the Obamanauts' minds these days?
I told him I wasn't interested in any more "discussion", since he wasn't looking to discuss anything-he was looking to force a "conversion" or most likely, simply to shoot down, dominate, destroy an opinion that threatened his Holy Priesthood.

October 6, 2008 - 09:32 ET by MazziJoe, I understand your frustration completely. My sister and her husband went through a few weeks when they would not speak to me because of this election. (Actually, she and I have had a truce for years - her husband crossed the line and I hung up the phone on him.)
We are talking again, because I "crossed the aisle" and said "look, I have a lot of people I can argue politics with, but I only have one sister." If she were not my sister though, I doubt I would have made the effort.
I am not a "hard-core" conservative, in fact, I am a social libertarian, but Obama particularly scares the hell out of me. Not because of the color of his skin, but because of the content of his heart, to use MLKJr's line. I disliked the Clintons, but I am terrified of Obama.
I understand also, why it seems like it should be a cakewalk to convince the opposition of Obama's history and danger, but it's almost like they have become zombies or something. Nothing gets through to them - nada. If you show them evidence, they either deny it, or twist it to somehow make everyone else look bad, as if that somehow negates the fact that Obama did (and does) what he did.
I don't know what has happened. I know that my sister is extremely intelligent and that she normally does not fall for scams and such, and it is incomprehensible to me that she cannot see the truth, but she watches her "news shows" (I guess CNN, knowing her). The only thing I can think of is that 1984 has come, and they are sending her messages back through the tube. It's crazy.
Anyway, Joe. Good luck. Better to lose a friend than to lose our country, which is probably going to happen if the Marxist regime gets in office.
(BTW - I had a realtor over the other day, and this guy, 60-some years old, told me that he expects that there will be a revoloution if Obama is elected, that he expects that the people will have to rise up and bear arms! That's scary talk coming from this old golf-playing country-club guy!)

I believe he may be correct. It scares me and I do not scare easily. He is of an age where he most probably has spent a good part of his life around people, (uncles, aunts, parents) who were part of World War 2 and understand what we have here as a country.
People of questionable patriotism would never have made it to a candidate position in the old days. I had a friend (in his sixties) recently make a similar comment to me.

October 6, 2008 - 12:18 ET by MazziIt really is scary. It's what our Forefathers gave us the right to do, but who ever thinks about that, except in the abstract? Can you even imagine what an uprising would be like? Think of the countries that Obama admires - Cuba, Venezuela, etc.. and the kind of retribution that dissenters get. Are Americans strong enough to fight against that?
The obama-zombies probably would not bear arms for their cause, but they will be perfectly willing to use financial retributions, public castigation and anything else they can "for the cause".

Mika just interviewed
October 6, 2008 - 08:04 ET by SeashellMika just interviewed Michael Isikoff from Newsweek and was just incredible. Isikoff's story was about Obama and campaign contributions, charging Obama of fraud (example: a group of PALESTINIAN brothers bought $30,000 in Obama t-shirts from the "Obama Store" and this doesn't get reported. All Mika could say was"the McCain cmpaign does the same thing" but Isikoff said no, that the McCain camp discloses all donations. Poor Mika. Not a good day for Obama.
Not a trend, is it?
October 6, 2008 - 08:08 ET by Indiana JoeMSNBC, huh? Well, this is encouraging. Face it, this could be big, huge, the cracks in the facade that lead to whole-sale collapse. The MSM facade, I mean, the last straw before this either pulls them back to reality, or at least brings their absolute hatred of the right and pushing of the left out into the open.
But I wouldn't be surprised if this wasn't nearly as big a deal as it sounds like to me. It could be monumental, if they cared about re-capturing the "non-biased" myth. Unfortunately, I don't really think they care. And since it's up to the media to police the media, in most people's mind, this is just a local aberration. It won't be allowed to take root and grow. Not to where your average person would notice it, anyway.

October 6, 2008 - 09:48 ET by MazziI think it may happen, Joe. Really. If nothing else, the numbers will cause it. Fox's rating are going through the roof, and all the rest are going down the toilet. Ultimately, media is a business, and the powers that be will HAVE to stop their denial, or at least stop their non-reporting.
They can avoid the issues raised by ordinary people, but if Palin and McCain keep hitting it, they can't hide under the rug. At some point, some MS reporter will see their "Woodward and Bernstein" moment and blow this wide open and then all the rats will be scurrying around trying to get their piece of the cheesewheel.

The media's ultimate fantasy - and our worst nightmare
October 6, 2008 - 10:37 ET by Mary Louise TurnerI have had this horrible thought in my head for weeks. You know what the MSM wants? Their ultimate fantasy is to see "The Anointed One" win all fifty states and to see every single Democrat elected. That, of course, would be our biggest nightmare. If McCain is really willing
October 6, 2008 - 11:48 ET by MazziIf McCain is really willing to take his gloves off, we may see a new dawn. If he is only planning on sending Sarah out there to do it, it will be more Palin-bashing mock-fests.
I have written to McCain multiple times, appealing for him to do it. My husband thinks that Mac is operating under a sense of honor that makes him want to NOT do it. In my emails to him, I have appealed to his honor for the sake of AMERICA, and not his personal honor. I have pleaded with him, saying that he is the only one who can break through the wall of silence that the media has enacted. They can ignore everyone else, but they cannot ignore McCain, himself. They tried to silence Palin with their mocking, but she has broken free, however, she is still not the candidate. he MUST do it.
I am suggesting that everyone write similar emails to McCain. It's not too late! http://www.johnmccain.com/contact/

So Where Can I Go For News?
October 6, 2008 - 09:34 ET by BlueCat57I've written both Fox News and Yahoo! News complaining about the bias of AP. Fox News relies heavily on AP for their stories, don't they have their own journalists? Their editors certainly don't do much editing or fact checking of the AP stories
So where does someone go to find news stories that are just the facts instead of lies, distortions and opinions?
I haven't seen Insight magazine lately, it used to be a good source. I just checked and it is a Web only publication now. I'll have to check it out. Its historic bias was far right.
I have the impression that the Christian Science Monitor is fairly conservative and factual. Is that true?
I'm also checking out WorldMag.com. They're a weekly. Their tag line is Today's News, Christian Views. I'm not sure what their bias will be. Has anyone read them?
Is there a wire service out there that reports just the facts in a readable way?Of course since we know of the extreme bias of most news sources we can try to filter out the worst of it and check the rest on Newsbusters. We can also read conservative columnists, but those columns are a day old and the facts are selected.
What I'd like is a source that lays out the facts and lets me decide what they mean. Is there such a source of daily (or in this connected age, instantaneous) news?
That's like reading Marx to become an entrepreneur.

October 6, 2008 - 10:15 ET by play21cwI'm getting sick of this.
The AP/MSM can make any claims they want, they can slander without facts, they can defend facts without facts (defending anything that is bad PR for obama.)
BUT when the truth comes out it is always dismissed.
It is time that McCain started vamping up the truthful character attacks against Obama. They need to tear off the gloves and hit him really hard, and do not let the MSM slow them down. I noticed that Obama did not deny what Palin said about his terrorist connections, but instead said the personal attacks are meant to take the focus off the important issues. I'm sorry, but this is VERY important, if this isnt important then please tell me what is?
It's down to the wire. Tomorrow night will tell alot about what is going to happen. I wish Obama didnt hide from the debates and there were 10+ like McCain wanted. And i wish they could have been in a Town Hall format, but the "Chosen One" said no.
