No One Accused Ferraro of Racism? Gene, Meet Keith

The amiable Gene Robinson is a regular MSNBC guest, but apparently not a regular MSNBC viewer—at least not of Keith Olbermann's show. Otherwise he would have never claimed, as he did tonight, that no one accused Geraldine Ferraro of being a racist back in March when she said that, for current political purposes, Obama was lucky to be black. For it was none other than Olbermann who accused Ferraro of precisely that.

On this evening's Race for the White House, David Gregory invited Robinson to comment on a Ferraro op-ed in today's Boston Globe in which the former Dem VP candidate wrote that she had been "accused of being racist for a statement I made" back in March.

EUGENE ROBINSON: On the race issue, I wish Geraldine Ferraro would give it a rest. I don't think people were saying she was racist when she made her earlier remarks. What people were saying was she was talking nonsense.

But as I reported at the time, Olbermann: Ferraro Statement 'Clearly Racist: Are We in South Africa?', this is what Olbermann said on his show of March 11, criticizing Hillary for not denouncing Ferraro, choosing rather to send out a campaign aide to defend the former Veep candidate.

KEITH OLBERMANN: So the senator wants a clearly racist, clearly equal-opportunity-is-not-a-good-thing, that's-the-only-reason-he's-here kind of statement interjected into the campaign?

Added Olbermann for good measure, a bit later, in condemning Clinton's failure to condemn Ferraro: "Does it not have disaster written all over it, or are we living in South Africa?"

View video of Olbermann's remarks here.

So in Olbermann's view, not merely was Geraldine racist, she was the moral equivalent of a propagator of apartheid. I hesitate to inflict this on Robinson, but Gene, meet Keith.

By the way...whether it's Robinson or any other leftist, they seem to forget when convenient if they're in the bag for Obama.

Racists

Most white people in America are just plain sick and tired of being called racists. They now resent it, big time. They know that America has bent over backwards to make things right and yet see that whatever is done, no matter how unfair it is to present day whites, will never be enough for many people. They also see a huge double standard. For example, if what has happened with Obama and his church had happened with a white conservative candidate, that person would be gone by now. Barry stays in because he is black. Moreover, if preachers in a white church had preached these kinds of "sermons" against blacks, they would much more widely condemned and probably investigated by the FBI. There is going to be a backlash in this election, and it's not due to "racism".

I have to disagree. Racism will help to damage the Democrat party in a big way. What bothers me is... they will find some stupid way to spin the whole deal so it get's blamed on Republicans. Wanna bet on it?

"Abstain from McCain"

Clear thinker

I believe you are correct in saying that an attempt to blame the Republicans will be made. There always is a spin from the left.. However, I think this entire Trinity Church deal has opened many people's eyes to the dangerous, unfair, left-wing radicalism which is represented by Obama and company. And again, I think whites of all political persuasions are sick of it.

Hi, BT

Right you are. Geraldine Ferraro, for example, was livid on Fox tonight. I wonder if even she could bring herself to vote for Obama. Even politcally misguided Americans often have a big heart and try to do the right thing. But now they've had it, "up to here" as the saying goes.

Who is Barry Sotero?

NEVER,NEVER trust a "liberal"

isia.. Hey don't be so

isia..

Hey don't be so sure she won't vote for McCain...I heard her on a show a few days ago I think it was asked something like this very thing, she would not say if she wouldn't vote for McCain over Obama...I'm serious...let me put it this way, she was saying she would not vote for Obama.

Btw...I saw some of that tonight, I have had so many interruptions here...lol.

It takes people like Ferraro who has a voice as grating to me as Hill when they get high pitched with their rhetoric to bring attention to this reverse racism when it offends them and is biting them in the arse....it is about past time...our side has always been afraid to do this because of the msm and party big-wigs...unfortunately..it is what it is, and should of been stated as such long ago by the repub side without fear in unison for as long as it took, we are the party that has been behind the blacks, not the dems.

BT:

Right again. I've been waiting decades for the right to take the gloves off, fight back and let the truth be known. It seems that people's patience with the left's garbage is finally running out. BTW, I read that there is now a petition circulating to force our so-called representatives in Congress to explore drilling off our shores. I guess we have to be pushed to the limit before we act.

Yeah, Newt has a thing going for all of us to sign to drill now drill everywhere or some such...

It is about time, I don't want to go into Newt and his global warming ect....glad someone is doing it I suppose, as far as I am concerned Newt heard the call, but there is always political reasons behind the scenes no matter how you look at it and it all starts with $$$$...I've been disgusted with Newt now for years so I'll leave it at that.

Switch out Black and White, and Liberals are suddenly shocked.

  • LYDSEXICS UNTIE!

Knat

Democrats think that everyone has the mental capacity and memory of a knat like they do. They are truly shocked when someone shows them what they really said. I guess it comes in handy when you lie to everyone. You don't have to remember the lie or who you told it to, and they don't expect each other to remember. I know people who lie all the time. One of them has told the truth twice I know of. Two times he told someone he was the biggest liar in the county. Yes, he is a democrat.

Old, Retired and glad of it.

Maybe Keith should spend

Maybe Keith should spend more time paying his taxes, and less time criticizing others.

It gets better. Shortly

It gets better. Shortly after Krazy Keith dedicated a special comment to Geraldine, racist Wright burst onto the scene. No special comments for Wright though...:(

Olbermann Watch had a funny video montage of Krazy Keith hypocrisy.

Can someone remind me what was so wrong about Geraldine's comment about Obama.....lol.

I'm a refugee from the Democratic Party.

First, I agree 100% with

First, I agree 100% with Ferraro.  Second, this guy is lying because all I can remember is EVERYONE calling Ferraro a "racist" after she made her comments.

Geraldine

I think Ferraro's comments were pretty obviously racist.  There have been many black candidates for President before Obama and none of them got anywhere near where Obama is.

These comments are also strikingly similar to Isiah Thomas' equally racist remarks back in the 80's concerning Larry Bird.  Something like if Bird were black, he would just be considered average.

No need to bring race into this at all.  Ferraro really hurt herself with those bigoted remarks.

I don't know that she did.

I don't know that she did.  I hear more and more people everyday talk about how great Ferraro is for admitting something that we all know is true.

Doesn't mean anything

The people who are saying things may be racist themselves.  A proposition isn't necessarily true simply by depending on the number of people who believe in it.

"I think Ferraro's comments

"I think Ferraro's comments were pretty obviously racist. There have
been many black candidates for President before Obama and none of them
got anywhere near where Obama is."

Which has nothing to do with the current election cycle. If Barack Obama were Barry
O'Connor(or John Edwards), a white guy from Chicago(or NC), Hillary would have wrapped it up weeks ago.

She believes the democrat machine and the media has gotten behind Obama because he's black, ESPECIALLY the media. Never in recent history has the media gotten behind and carried water for a candidate like they are doing for Obama. Pointing that out isn't being racist, it's being....perceptive.

I disagree

I think McCain has gotten a much bigger free ride than Obama has and I am voting for him.

I don't believe I said

I don't believe I said "free ride", I think what I said was the media has gotten behind and carried water for Obama like no other candidate. There is basically an entire network devoted to getting him elected. The only reason McCain is getting a "free ride"(despite Pews findings) as you call it, is because he isn't the story. He wrapped up the nomination weeks ago. The current cycle is Obama-Clinton because they are in a heated battle for the nomination, not to mention the disaster the Dems in general have made of their primary process with Florida and Michigan.

The free ride will be over once Obama wraps up the nomination.

Glad you're voting for McCain though. I likely will too, if I can find my nose plugs.

I didn't realize you can

I didn't realize you can smoke crack in outer space.

You're obviously a crazy person, but even by the standards of your other posts that's the most inept statement of the lot. And utterly erroneous.

The MSM is rooting for Obama, independent analysis has shown that he gets by far the most favorable coverage.

The MSM excises his Gaffe Guzzling comments as if they never happened, or just glosses over them.

Vote 4 change. Vote 4 anything. See Jack & Mr Shy's first campaign ad for the ONLY viable 3rd party candidate.

I really have to hand it to

I really have to hand it to Ms. Ferraro... on this issue at least.

She's got more groinal area spherical objects than Obama. She's stated her case and is not backing down despite a constant drum beat calling her racist because she dares criticize a black man.

Most RINOs would have been groveling and begging liberals and the MSM for fauxgiveness within one news cycle.

Of course, if Obama wins the Preidency she is DEAD in the Democratic party. She must know that... so kudos to her toughness here.

Vote 4 change. Vote 4 anything. See Jack & Mr Shy's first campaign ad for the ONLY viable 3rd party candidate.

Ferraro

I can't believe the way a lot of Democrats have turned against Ferraro. How they can call her a racist with a straight face is mind boggling. I don't agree with her about a lot of things but I think the way she has been treated is disgraceful. She has been a prominent figure in the Dem party for decades but just because she has the audacity to make a comment about 'the messiah' now she is a racist??? For anyone to say that she hasn't been accused of being one hasn't been watching a lot of TV. If you listen to what she had to say she wasn't saying anything bad about Obama...she was just making a comment. After the way Obama has gotten a free ride about the Wright thing from the MSM what she said seems to have a ring of truth. I don't like Hilary Clinton but I do think there has been some sexism in this election. Some of the things that have been said about Hilary from the MSM would never have been said about Obama. Actually, I should clarify...you can call it sexism...but I see it more as Obama being the MSM favorite candidate therefore they say nasty things about Hil because she is no longer their favorite.

It's a sad day when the MSM can make me feel sorry for Ferraro and Clinton. Didn't think it would ever happen.

Yep. Everyone in the

Yep. Everyone in the country knows what she said was true. But leave it to the ultra-politically-correct-and-enlightened media to brand her a "racist".

Eugene "Bradley Effect" Robinson

LOL. Thanks for weighing in on that, Eugene.

Robinson's the guy who - in print and on the air -accused the people of NH of racism when they surprised him (and other pro-Obama pundits) by handing Obama a major loss. Eugene cited the Bradley Effect (completely debunked by organizations like Gallup): "Whites are racist but they won't admit it to pollsters".

Who cares?

VP candidates in the democratic party don't seem to do well with their fellow socialist-democrats (i.e. Ferraro & Lieberman) after failure.

But who cares about either of them? Not me. They both are extremely wrong in how they view this country and its potential. The Clintons et al plowed the field of give-aways and handouts, fertilized with affirmative action (i.e. institutionalized prejudice), watered with hate and resentment, grew it all with large doses of empty and dangerous promises, and now are shocked at the deformed crop they are harvesting.

Is it time for a disclaimer!

I think it's time for newspapers and other media outlets, to put disclaimers on their product, "Yes, we're in the tank for Obama so you're not likely to see anything that would cause you to think about your vote."  At least, that way, we could know what to expect and turn to someone that doesn't have that.  Perhaps John McCain can add that to the McCain-Feingold package.

Democrats: Stuck on Stupid since 2000.

breaking news

Ap is reporting Barack Obama sent his church a letter of resignation today. Apparently Jeremiah Wright wasn't enough to scare him away but a race baiting, profane bully who happened to be white...that did the trick.

Racism has helped Obama in that...

...our cowardly leftist media (those who weren't already at the tingling leg stage) were wary of being seen as going after "the first serious Black candidate."   If they had done their job as reporters and dug up the "dirt" (read: truth) on Obama's grotesque associations, back before Obama had an insurmountable lead, then Hillary would now be the nominee.  But, all the "dirt diggers" would have risked the wrath that comes from breaking one of the democrats greatest taboos - that of criticizing a member of a victim class.

Thus, Obama will now be the nominee because of a PC racism that refuses to treat Black "victims" like normal people.  Once a victim class is established as such, then all questionable behavior must be excused.  They are, after all, poor, pathetic, helpless victims.  Just ask Reverend Wright.

(As an aside, Blacks are far from the only victims of the leftist cult of victimization.  And (disclaimer) obviously not all members of said groups buy into this con.  But other groups that come to mind are Native Americans, and Gays, and more recently, the terrorist electing Palestinians.)

Just wait for the general election, when Obama will be portrayed as both the victim of all his crackpot associations in Chicago, and of the "racist" conservatives who keep pointing out the obvious about Obama's lousy judgement and lame denials (read: lies).
