The jumping-off point was Joe's wearing of a red sweater today, which as a running gag he claimed was in solidarity with the workers of the world on this, May Day. But when Indiana Senator Evan Bayh, a Hillary supporter, came on toward the end of the show, Scarborough pressed the sweater into double duty.
JOE SCARBOROUGH: You do though feel the momentum breaking [Hillary's] way?The late Bear Bryant was [1958-82] of course the legendary football coach of Joe's alma mater, the University of Alabama. And rather than the red sweater Bobby Knight famously wore at Indiana, Bryant's signature piece of apparel was the houndstooth hat.
EVAN BAYH: Well she was a little behind; she's caught up. If I had to guess right now, yeah, I think momentum's on her side, but you know five days is a long time, Joe. This is truly as we would say in our state, being a basketball state, this is a jump ball.
SCARBOROUGH: It is a jump ball. And you notice, by the way, I'm wearing my Hoosier sweater.
MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Yeah, we noticed, I can't miss the sweater.
SCARBOROUGH: More about the Hoosiers than May Day, at least while I'm talking to the great senator there. Alright, thank you so much senator, great talking to you. Senator Evan Bayh. And of course the Hoosiers, Mika--
BRZEZINKSI: Yeah, teach me, teach me, you know so much about sports.SCARBOROUGH: It's the Indiana Hoosiers, and of course you know their great basketball coach, Bear Bryant, right?
BRZEZINSKI: Right, of course.
WILLIE GEIST: Come on, Mika.
SCARBOROUGH: It's Bobby Knight. GoodLord!
BRZEZINSKI: Why would you do that? You're next; you're next!

May 1, 2008 - 13:56 ET by marpelCandace, Bigtimer, I lived in NYC for 7 years. I also was in the circles of people who I described in my blog. I didn't speak except from experience.
And, Candace, living in NYC were the best years of my life, but I never NEVER gave up my Texas driver's license. It would have been giving up my country...but that's just being Texan.

May 1, 2008 - 12:28 ET by bigtimerMorning cd....
Sometimes we all need to lighten up around here now and then, I have seen a few meant to be light-hearted fun blogs that have been made into nothing but arguing...life is short, we all need a good deal of humor now and then...all of us...I am including myself when I say all.
I'm glad to see humor here from others...it usually makes my day anyway....

Mika, Mika, Mika
May 1, 2008 - 14:14 ET by NKurucPlease don't put Mika in the same class as Ann Coulter. Mika is a news reader. She doesn't have enough basic knowledge or for that matter intelligence to have a solid opinion. In fact, she's not even a good "foil" for Scarborough. She has to make a snide comment, sigh or scrunch up her face about everything that anyone says on the show. There are at least a half dozen ladies on MSNBC that would be better as a co-host for this poorly rated show.
Oh well, nobody is watching anyway. I guess that she fits into the agenda that this network is pushing. Talk about a weak lineup......Matthews, Olberman, and on and on and on.

May 1, 2008 - 12:39 ET by Saint ZeroYou can make the argument that Florida is actually a Yankee penal colony and not a part of the "South" anymore. Certainly chivalry has been beaten by the media for years now.

May 1, 2008 - 12:43 ET by suzycreamcheeseAw, I don't think it's embarrassing that a woman (or man) doesn't know who coached what. I'm always getting ribbed for thinking famous sports figures play different sports than they do or not knowing who they are at all. I couldn't hear the exchange but it looked like he was just pulling her leg and she was a good sport about it.
I don't think it's a show of someone's lack of intelligence that they don't know about or care for sports. However, I thought that even alien life on other planets knew where Bear Bryant coached.
I grew up in a household that worshipped the ground that Bryant walked on. My brother went to UA and my dad was at every game. I can still remember how packed his funeral was; traffic snarls everywhere; people in mourning.

Too Speedy a Journey
May 1, 2008 - 15:57 ET by CellaThe basic problem with the clueless Mika is this, IMO.
She went from news reader to news shredder to Commentator.
What happened to all the steps in between? Reporter in the field, data gathering, learning about tensions in the modern world, interviews on economic and social development, environmental issues.
Hannity and O'Reilly get to be commentators. Their dues have been paid.
But MSNBC gave this airhead a seat at the table and everyday they and their viewers have to pay the price.
Why is it important?
May 1, 2008 - 16:02 ET by harqmanWhy is it important? Because Mika is an idiot. She wants everyone to think she knows everything. That is important to her. She is a typical flaming on fire liberal. She wants to be liked. She is always agreeing in the background. Or disagreeing. It is just rude. She responded "right, of course." Like she knew exactly what she was talking about. Like when some one gives and example of global warming or quantum physics. She would be right there saying "right, of course. D= L6T5ninersquared. Of course it does. I get tired of explaining it to Joe." That is the crux of Mika's world. She has no idea what the hell she is talking about on any subject. That is the point of this thread. It is subconsciously why Joe did it. He gets hammered on his own show by that ignorant know it all everyday. She deserved it. She reacts without thinking.
Liberals want to pretend to like they are well rounded educated people. She is my age. Has she lived in a cave? No. She has worked in the news industry for decades...per her bio. So she would have absolutely heard about both Bear and Knight. She was so desperate not to look stupid, that she looked stupid. Karma is a beeech.
My regret....I did not see it. Her arrogance got her. God bless you Joe.
