UPDATE: Joe and Mika discuss this NB item. Video (0:57): Real (1.55 MB) or Windows (1.78 MB), plus MP3 (435 kB).

Joe Scarborough has pulled back the curtain on the liberal bias at MSNBC, describing an incident in which people in its newsroom ceaselessly booed President Bush during a State of the Union address.

The revelation came on "Morning Joe" today at 6:02 A.M. EDT. Joe was discussing a recent episode at the Seattle Times in which reporters and editors cheered the news that Karl Rove had resigned. Scarborough applauded Seattle Times Executive Editor Dave Boardman for issuing a memorandum reproving his colleagues. For more, read NB items by Brent Baker and Ken Shepherd.

Joe went on to describe a similar incident at MSNBC.

VIEW VIDEO OF JOE'S ACCOUNT OF THE NEWSROOM INCIDENT HERE. Note: that's newsreader Mika Brzezinksi heard murmuring in assent, though one has to wonder just how thrilled she was by Joe's candor in outing her fellow MSNBC liberals.

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

JOE SCARBOROUGH: There was a story out of Seattle, and the reason I love it is that it's transparency in the news. You have an editor who was actually outing his own people. The Seattle Times newsroom broke into applause when Karl Rove resigned. And of course that's bad. What I like about it is that the editor actually wrote about it and went in and told the people in the newsroom that was unacceptable.

And I've got to say, my first night here at MSNBC was the President's State of the Union address in 2003, and I was shocked because there were actually people in the newsroom that were booing the president actually from the beginning to the end. And I actually talked to [NBC/MSNBC executive] Phil Griffin about it, and he said "how was it last night?" Because he was the one that called me out of the Ace Hardware store, got my vest on. He said "how was it last night?" I said "well, it's OK, I understand it's a little bit different up here than it is down in northwest Florida, but you had people in the newsroom actively booing the President of the United States. Phil turned red very quickly. That didn't happen again.

Great news: the MSNBC newsroom no longer blatantly boos the President! But did Griffin replace any of the offenders and bring in professionals, or is MSNBC still staffed by people who simply do their booing on the inside -- and in the news choices they make?

UPDATE, 8-16: At 6:48 A.M. EDT Joe and Mika discussed this item.

SCARBOROUGH: Chris [MJ producer Chris Licht] told me something in my ear during break, that we talked at 6:02 about the Seattle Times and back in 2003, back in 2003, the newsroom at MSNBC booing George Bush . . .

BRZEZINKSI: Some people, yeah [Mika wanting to make clear it wasn't unanimous.]

SCARBOROUGH: A lot of the people that were actually charged with the coverage.

BRZEZINKSI: Oh dear!

SCARBOROUGH: Yeah, that's bad. And I talked about how Phil Griffin found out, got very angry,

BRZEZINKSI: Right, as he should.

SCARBOROUGH: And cleaned that up. That never happened again.

BRZEZINKSI: N-o-o-o.

SCARBOROUGH: And this whole place has changed an awful lot since then. But NewsBusters, already has a story at like 6:30.

BRZEZINKSI: Oh my God!

SCARBOROUGH: Ruthless efficiency!

BRZEZINKSI: I try not to look there. They don't like me.

SCARBOROUGH: They said I pulled back the curtain. You know what? Sunlight's the best disinfectant.

BRZEZINKSI: Darn right.

I don't dislike Mika. I just wish she would admit the obvious: that she is a liberal Democrat who occasionally lets her bias show, and stop hiding behind the flimsy cover, as proof of her objectivity, of having a Republican brother.

"I was shocked because there were actually people in the newsroom that were booing the president from the beginning to the end."

What he didn't add:

"So right out of the box I ratted out my buddies to gain favor with the boss"  I have since become a proud Broadcasters Union Member and famous for being quite the accomplished Democrat hack."

~LYDSEXICS UNTIE!~

Hey, let's give Joe some

Hey, let's give Joe some credit here.  He could have just kept this to himself this a.m.  As far as "ratting out" his buddies . . . who's to say they're his "buddies"?  He did the right thing IMO.

Agreed: Joe deserves kudos

Agreed: Joe deserves kudos for his candor. Query whether his MSNBC colleagues and bosses will feel the same.

}}---> so ashamed

Now I'm sure I'll hear how he keeps those same high standards to this day.

~LYDSEXICS UNTIE!~

Mark, Of course they feel

Mark,

Of course they feel the same.  They don't care about the liberal charges.  They care about ratings.

All of the sudden, due to his candor, Joe's back in the good graces of the conservatives.  You're all watching again and MSNBC's making more money.

If Joe had any cajones he

If Joe had any cajones he would leave MSNBC and go public including writing a book exposing those jerks.

Sky is Blue?????

I was shocked because there were actually
people in the newsroom that were booing the president actually from the
beginning to the end.
- Scarborough

Is anyone actually surprised by this?

These are the people who claim that they can still be unbiased when writing, but insist that a judge who is a Christian can't possibly put aside his personal feelings and follow the law.

Mentioned NewsBusters

They must be reading NewsBusters very closely at MSNBC because a few minutes ago, Joe mentioned that the story was already up here. Hee! Hee! (Hi Joe!)

Mole

P J: See the posting I made a few days ago about a mole at msnbc. By the way, he/she and I are OK now, but at first, he/she was not happy with my posting. I understood it to be OK and would give them pause at Mighty Socialist Network Broadcasting Communism.

It did;;;;; and it is. He/she is not a suspect at all. Two other people are.

Funny, until now I had

Funny, until now I had never heard of this incident. Now put the shoe on the other foot for a moment and imagine the FOX News newsroom erupting in a chorus of boos after a Bill or Hillary speech --- imagine the uproar in the MSM, the celebrity denunciations of FOX, the congressional investigations that would ensue. And I'd bet my last buck that MSNBC is not the only newsroom where this kind of blatant liberal partisanship occurs.

Newsrooms as Cults

These newsrooms seem to demand cult like devotion to the causes du jour.

Mika

Hi Mika!!! Hee! Hee!

Speaking for myself, I

Speaking for myself, I don't dislike Mika. I just wish she would admit the obvious: that she is a liberal Democrat who occasionally lets her bias show, and stop hiding behind the flimsy cover, as proof of her objectivity, of having a Republican brother. -Mark Finkelstein

As if that proves she is objective?? That's a hoot! That even takes it further than "some of my best friends are..."

Mika

I agree, motherbelt. Yesterday when they had Laura Ingraham on, right before she came on, Willie Geist said something like 'coming up next, radio talk show host, Laura Ingraham.' Mika said "RRReeeoooOOWWWRR!" like a hissing cat! You can see the video of it here:

http://msunderestima...

I couldn't believe that after that Laura (who must not have known) heaped praise upon praise for Mika! Laura, please watch the playback.

To be unbiased is to be dead......

It’s not the bias that’s the problem everyone is biased in one way or another; it’s whether that “bias” affects the accuracy of the news reported. As far as Msnbc goes there are far worse “news” organizations where bias affects the accuracy of their news. Now more that ever getting news from a variety of sides minimizes the bias effect so you can pick through and get a more accurate news report.

Don't like Brzezinksi?  I

Don't like Brzezinksi?  I would no say that.  I just that fact that someone's sole qualification for a job is that they are a liberal is wrong.  Anyone associated by blood, marraige or whatever with the disaster of the Carter presidency has no right to be on television news.  I could go on for hours about the incompetency of Carter and her father!

Take it easy on Mika

Take it easy on Mika. After all she is the MSNBC version of Margaret Dumont. She inadvertently provides comic relief with her insistence on playing the clueless straight role.

One thing that bothers me

One thing that bothers me is the overtly disrepectful way the MSM makes reference to our president.  I'm hearing more reporters address president Bush as "Mr. Bush".  No contempt there -- right !

Mika Brezezinski "that's good" for indictment of Karl Rove

Joe: " It happened to me, everytime I tried to take a Friday off last year,"

Mika: " Mhmm " *sips .

Joe: " we were told that was the Friday that Karl Rove was going to be indicted."

Mica: " Yeah, well that's good."

____________________________________

Gee, "that's good" ? The incorrect multiple rumored indictments of Karl Rove or the fact that Joe didn't get his day off ?

We need a liberal to interpret this properly in order to clear Mika of bias. Any demoloons wanna take a stab at it ?

___________________________________

Need a good laugh ? I searched "Brezezinski" at msnbc, and their PROPAGANDA search engine came up with ONE hit.

http://video.msn.com/v/us/msnbc.htm?g=e771e428-bc1a-4ba7-8715-b871d757ccce&f=00&fg=email

Watch till the end, this is hilarious, although Mika appears like she wants to be a journalist not a jealous fashion advisor for Paris Hilton, the story she can't wait to get out, her LEAD story, is Sen. Richard Lugar "challenging" the hated President, George Bush, in "A time of war" !.

Brezezinski doesn't just

Brezezinski doesn't just "occasionally let her bias show".  Her militant leftist feminist bias is always on display.

Seems like Mika wants to

Seems like Mika wants to move on to another subject -- and quick !!

Liberal Bias

Liberal bias doesn't exist does it? Will the fairness doctrine apply to MSNBC also or just talk radio? Will there be a forum whereby an opposing point of view (the truth) will be expoused? This is typical liberal media bias, plucked from the democrat playbook. Perhaps these actions could be why MSNBC has the ratings it does. It is amazing how liberals fault Scarborough for exposing liberal bias, and extol the virtues of Mr. Valerie Plame, Joe Wilson, when he outed Scotter Libby. Forget about the fact that Mr. Valerie Plame had an agenda. Of course that was perfectly legitimate right? Has the liberal media once exposed the fact that Valerie Plame herself lied under oath to the Senate? Don't hold your breath for that to happen.

"I'm OK since my brothers a Republican" LOL

That is too funny about Brzezinski knowing she's a phony and thinking that us Conservatives will "accept" her into our "society" if someone, anyone, in her family or neighborhood are Republicans.  LOL  I have family members that are full-fledged Democrats, liberal as liberal can be, but that doesn't make me one of them. Thank God for that!

And KUDOS to Newsbusters for making it in their dialogue!!  What an honor.  If they only knew that their complaint about you all's efficiency and timing makes you a top news online news source.  Thank you!!!  Keep up the good work!
