A CBS News poll conducted February 2 through February 4 found that 62 percent of Americans believe that tax cuts would do more to get the country out of recession, while only 16 percent thought government spending would. However, when Evening News anchor Katie Couric touted other results from that same poll on Thursday, February 5 she managed to leave out that particular finding. That poll finding has not been mentioned in any CBS News coverage since the poll’s release on February 5.
Instead, Couric focused on the aspect of the poll that claimed that 51 percent of Americans support the so-called "stimulus" bill being pushed by the Obama administration and Democrats in Congress. In addition, later on Thursday’s Evening News, correspondent Chip Reid also cited a poll question that showed 81 percent of Americans saw President Obama as being bipartisan in the debate over the massive spending bill.

Idea for a new awards show...
February 9, 2009 - 18:45 ET by BKeyserWell, I guess if all you watch is CBS, you might actually believe their garbage.
I think there ought to be another awards show- nationally televised, red carpet and all. Except this one should award the most agregious falsehoods promoted by the media each- I was going to say "year" but the show would have to be a marathon, so maybe, "quarter" would be better. A vertical scroll on one side of the screen can run a loop, time providing, of all of the misdeeds by the media (names and networks noted) during the prior three months, with category winners highlighted.
Categories could be- like in this case- Greatest Omissions from a News Story or Opinion Poll, and False Statements Made by News Anchors, and Political Talking Points not Countered by an Opposing View, and...(I'm open for suggestions...)
I am sorry but I cannot
February 9, 2009 - 18:45 ET by eaglewingz08I am sorry but I cannot believe that 81 percent of Americans believe Obama to be bipartisan. That would mean that roughly two thirds of republicans and conservatives believe Obama and the dems to have been bipartisan. Nonsense. What is happening is skewing the polls again by the lib media to get the results they want.
Well in that case....
February 9, 2009 - 18:51 ET by guttermouthLet the people run the country. Obviously the 62% majority know what's best for the economy. Although it makes me wonder, if cutting taxes has been the strategy for the past 8 years, why do we continue to slump further into this recession?
I have to wonder which of the 62%, or the 16% for that matter ever even passed ECON 101.
Just because

Economic Solution?
February 9, 2009 - 19:33 ET by PopularTechDrastically cut the size of government, drastically cut government spending, cut taxes and remove regulations stiffling growth. The free market will take care of the rest. Since this is a government created disaster, the only solution is less government. Economics 101.

February 9, 2009 - 19:47 ET by PopularTechYou cut spending to every governmental organization by 20% immediately, end all foreign aide, abolish numerous worthless government institutions like the Department of Education, the SEC ect... It is not hard.
Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is Not Pollution
Right
February 9, 2009 - 19:51 ET by guttermouthSo continued mass-layoffs is your solution. Okay, I like where you're going with this. Abolish DoE? Cool. Education is a waste anyway. Where do I sign up?
Yes continued elimination of tax subsidized jobs
February 9, 2009 - 19:55 ET by PopularTechCorrect, since they are nothing but a leach on the free market economy. Government does not create jobs.
Eliminating the DOE does not eliminated education, it eliminates the worthless organization that does nothing but wastes tax payer money. The states can set their own education standards for much less money.
Are you really this economically illiterate?
Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is Not Pollution
Hey
February 9, 2009 - 20:06 ET by guttermouthI'm all for anarchy here, but let's face it. Government doesn't create jobs? What are you talking about? When the government decides to spend our tax dollars on building a new freeway, the thousand or so unemployed men and women hired to do the job are what? Is this not a creation of jobs? Perhaps you're looking at it from another angle, but to me it's clear as day.
Anyone who's ever been through a school system in different states knows that some states can't possibly set their own education standards. Take the south for example. When I was a kid I lived in Florida for 1 year. When I moved back to my home state, I was almost a half year behind every person in my grade because of the crappy educational system in Florida.
But hey, like I said earlier. Ideally we'll just abolish all government and have a self governed anarchistic society. I call it heaven.
I knew you attended public schools

It is clear you are economically illiterate
February 9, 2009 - 20:15 ET by PopularTechNo the government does not create REAL jobs, they rob capital from the private sector which creates REAL jobs not make work tax subsidized jobs.
Government Projects do not "Create Jobs" (Ludwig Von Mises Institute)
The Fallacy That Government Creates Jobs (Daniel J. Mitchell, Ph.D. Economics)
Without competition in the education system by allowing parents to choose their own schools you will never see education reform. The government cannot provide this.
Since you are clearly dishonest and choose to state assertions I never made it is no wonder you are so clueless. The fact that you do not believe the government can cut spending just amazes me. You have obviously never run a business, I have and everything the government does it does wastefully and inefficient.

Now, a cluebat. It's a term used by the military. Google it.
As to my solution to the "economic quagmire". Ha...flawed premise, little econo-ignoramus. It's only a quagmire if you drink the kool-aid....which you obviously have. It's only a quagmire if stupid people (like you) continue to believe without question that which you hear in the media.

Well, guess what - nothing sticking, but it all stinks. Face it, Blondie, you know nothing about the economy. Otherwise you'd be making a buttload of money right now consulting the government on how to solve the ECONOMIC QUAGMIRE. I'm reading your post again. Do you really think that the numbers we hear are fake? That the economy is just kinda equalizing itself and will just figure it self out soon? Stay off the economy posts - you're making yourself look foolish. Do you realize no one even backs up your pathetic statements anymore?

Cutting Taxes is good, so long as you cut spending.

February 10, 2009 - 17:38 ET by silent conservativeI have to say this. That's childish, and truly disappointing.
Please, bicker about this comment for the next 20 posts, then grow up and let's have some inspired comments.
