War on Rush Update: NB Publisher Bozell Addresses Hypocrisy In Letters to Quicken Loans, Carbonite Chiefs
Updated at bottom of post | This morning, NewsBusters publisher and Media Research Center founder Brent Bozell sent letters to Jay Farner and David Friend, the presidents of Quicken Loans and Carbonite, respectively, addressing the hypocrisy of how their companies pulled out of the Rush Limbaugh program over comments for which the conservative talker has since apologized, even as they continue to advertise on the programs of hateful left-wing radio hosts.
For example, Carbonite continues to advertise on Ed Schultz's radio program, although he maliciously slammed conservative author Laura Ingraham in May 2011 as a "right-wing slut" and "a talk slut."
Schultz, you may recall, was briefly suspended from his radio and MSNBC programs, and offered on-air apologies to Ingraham.
In the case of Quicken Loans, the hypocrisy is arguably much, much worse. The company advertises on the Mike Malloy program, the host of which has a long track record of vicious and vile comments not just about conservatives but even ordinary citizens. For example, on Malloy's March 2 program, he seemed to revel in the deaths of tornado victims in the South and Midwest, typically Republican states in presidential contests:
“Their God, if this is the way they want to look at it, keeps smashing them into little grease spots on the pavement, in Alabama, in Mississippi, Arkansas, Georgia and Oklahoma – you know, the Bible Belt...where they ain’t gonna let no g*dd*mn science get in the way, it says in the bible, blah blah blah, so according to their way of thinking, y’know, God with his omnipotent thumb, and so far tonight, has smashed so far 20 people on Highway 12, or whatever the hell highway they live next to.”
After the March 1 death of Andrew Breitbart, Malloy seethed with malicious rage, "Roast in hell you son of a bitch Breitbart -- I mean seriously, you thug punk!"
"Breitbart was 43 at his passing and is survived by a wife and four children," Bozell noted in his letter to Farner.
"Perhaps you did not know about Malloy’s comments or even your sponsorship of his show. That is entirely possible. But you do now," Bozell noted, adding:
If you continue to exercise an obvious double standard of condoning left-wing hate speech, while caving in to partisan pressure to discontinue sponsoring the Rush Limbaugh Show, we will expose Quicken Loans for hypocrisy.
Mr. Farner, the MRC is committed to defending free speech. You have the constitutional right to sponsor or not sponsor anyone you like. But, if you drop a conservative radio host under the pretense that he made an uncivil comment about a political activist, yet continue to sponsor a leftwing host who relishes in the death of innocent children, we will hold you accountable for that decision.
You can read the letter to Quicken's president Jay Farner here and the letter to Carbonite president David Friend here.
You can also sign our pro-Rush petition at IStandWithRush.org.
[UPDATE: Malloy has issued an apology for his comments about the tornado victims, reading: During my program last Friday night, I commented on the potential for destruction caused by the tornadoes that were moving through the south with historic fury.
First and foremost, I sincerely apologize for the inflammatory language that I used, and for the anger and pain that came as a result of my comments.
Those comments, as published on various blog sites, were lifted out of context from a larger point I was making about the hypocrisy of many political leaders and commentators who refuse to acknowledge science, logic and fact in assessing disasters such as this one.
That said, my language was unnecessarily harsh in light of the lives that would be lost later that evening. I have nothing but the most heartfelt sympathy for those families who were devastated by those tragic storms.
I will say again I am sincerely sorry for the pain and anger my comments evoked. I made a mistake, I was wrong, and I will not let it happen again.]

Since the market opened on Monday through its close today, Carbonite stock (NASDAQ:CARB) has plummet nearly 12 percent, outpacing the drop of the NASDAQ index in that same time period by nine-and-a-half points. It was also one of the biggest decliners on the NASDAQ on Tuesday.

When I heard Monday about the advertisers leaving, I went to Pro Flowers and erased all my data. (Pro Flowers was another one that pulled their advertising.) There was no link for deleting the account so I emailed them.
In the email, I said "Since your business decision was based on Rush's comments, your decision was not business, it was political. So my business decision is to not do business with you."
I received a canned response of Thank you for your interest... or something like that...lol.

and dismiss Limbaugh's show as "Hate Radio". I rarely listen to his show--but enough to think that label is a stretch. However, the left tells the mainstream: he's fringe, off ranting in his own corner of "Hate Radio".
And then they talk about how a man of his influence shouldn't be allowed to call women bad words. I think that it kind of proves that Rush isn't off spouting hateful, vile things every day and that the sense you get from the rhetoric that nothing is below him--he hates black people after all and says racist things every day--has little to back it if the egregious sin for which he needs to leave the air is using a word Bill Maher would think twee while not having the propriety to restrain from punching into the crowd.
All of a sudden Rush is popular and influential and should have restrained himself. Face it, if a guy is a "hate-monger" you DON'T expect decency from him--just like I don't expect it from Maher. So propriety and decency are off the table--it has to be the vileness of it--and again, it doesn't measure up to what other people have said.
Anybody who would pull their add from Rush and remain on Malloy's show isn't being serious.

Anyone have any good alternatives to Carbonite? I'm going to make the change too. It's going to take new a few days because my local backup utility, Norton Ghost, is failing because it looks like my backup harddrive is dying and I don't want to risk any down time because this laptop's harddrive fatally died twice in a little over a year. Ain't technology grand?
Anyway, if Carbonite wants to be consistent then I would stay with them. I don't mean consistent in their treatment of Rush: I mean consistent with their indirect support of that Fluke ditz. I have a right to backup my data therefore someone must pay for it. If Carbonite wants to pay for my data backup I'll continue being their "customer".

...you say that Arbys gives 100% of their political donations to Democrats. There's a Wendy's/Arby's PAC that gives its contributions 84% to Republicans. The Arbys Foundation gives most of its money to Big Brothers. If you can prove it gives to Democrats I'll do as you say: never darken their drive-thru again
Edit: in 2012 the Wendys/Arbys PAC has given 100% of their political donations to Republicans

Since Arbys merged with Wendy's owners, it gives 100% of its foundation grants to charity. The Arbys/Wendys PAC gives about 84% to Republicans.

On Friday, September 23, 2011 - Bill Maher said this during his HBO show:
“Sarah Palin Would ‘F–k’ Rick Perry If He Was Black.”
This statement is yet another example of Bill Maher’s misogyny. Maher has employed terms such as: ‘dumb twat’, ‘bimbos’, and ‘c u n t’ in reference to women leaders including Congresswoman Michele Bachmann and Governor Sarah Palin.
Democrat President Barrack Hussein Obama Junior accepted $1,000,000 in campaign contributions from this WOMAN HATER and ignores the DOUBLE STANDARD.

Friggin Hilarious their stock took the deepest plunge of any stock after they dumped Limbaugh... Wondering if that is who Rush is mentioning is trying to return...I wouldnt let them...they are not on board with the team, they are fickle and in use by the PC police, very good reason for a company to fail. If your a company and your allegiance to political correctness surpasses your ability or desire to be profitable and HENCE pay your employees..YOU DESERVE TO FAIL.
I dropped Carbonite the day they dropped Rush (I used to listen to Rush, cant now due to schedule change for me ). I wont be going back to carbonite , even if they do come back, they are damaged goods...the CEO, CFO and COO would all have to resign before i would consider it.
