Media Mash: Ed Schultz 'Slut' Comment Edition

By NB Staff | May 27, 2011 | 10:39

A  A

Liberal radio host Ed Schultz's May 23rd attack on conservative talker Laura Ingraham as a "slut" was "reprehensible" and "could not have been more vile," NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell told viewers of the May 26 "Hannity."

That said, Bozell added, he should be commended for owning up to his transgression and offering a "man's apology" Wednesday night on his MSNBC "Ed Show" program.

"It seemed real to me" and Ingraham accepted his apology, Fox News host Sean Hannity agreed, but noted a double standard in how media covered this slur compared to Don Imus's "nappy-headed ho's" comment some years ago.

There was a media-created "firestorm" when Imus made that comment, but no media buzz over Schultz's smear, Bozell agreed.

"Where are we right now with this onslaught of personal attacks on conservatives? Where is that firestorm now," the Media Research Center founder asked.

Oh puh-leeze, you touchy racist polluting earth-kiling Tea-bags

Submitted by CO2Maker on Fri, 05/27/2011 - 10:58am.

We all know what Ed meant: Laura Ingraham is a *talk* slut. He said it. All the gals on the Viewgina Monologues say she's not a real slut not a slut-slut.

So, get over it, you whiny grandma-killing, Big Oil spilling, gun lovers, Palin drones.

Apology

Submitted by grammajane on Fri, 05/27/2011 - 11:24am.

If this had been the first time schultz opened his yap about Conservative women, I can and would understand his apology. He has bashed and yelled about the subject numerous times and this is the only time he got caught and punished. Good for Laura for accepting his apology but, it is no guarentee he won't happen again because that is all this buffoon does day in and day out. He spent days blaming Conservatives for the shooting in AZ because of their "hate talk" and he is the worst hate talker on the air. He is a wind bag and will never stop. He has no place in the media, apology or not. Behavior has consequences, and now is the time for him to be aware of his hateful behavior and leave.........for good.

Why no media firestorm this time?

Submitted by Newsbubba on Fri, 05/27/2011 - 11:46am.

This is too easy.  Special Ed called a "conservative white woman" a slut.  Imus called some b-people (I'm not sure what the latest acceptable term is) "nappy headed ho's."  That makes Imus a racist!

Let some conservative call a b-person on the left a slut, or a saint for that matter, and watch the media explode all over them.

My favorite description of Bambi is "rat bastard, Fascist, SOB."  There isn't a racist jab in that, and it's all true except the "rat" part (poetic license), but for some reason it makes me a racist.  Guess I'll have to live with it.

Here's another angle that would warranted tar and feathers

if the players were of the opposite political persuasion.

Today I received an email from the MRC that chronicled this story, including this:

Soon after, the story was picked up and featured on the Drudge Report, and within hours, MSNBC management had met with Schultz and accepted his offer to take one week of unpaid leave for his wanton cruelty towards a breast cancer survivor and adoptive mother of two. (empahsis in original)

I didn't know either of those things about Ingraham.

And I think that it's a credit that in the back-and-forth on the talk shows, that subject wasn't brought up. Apparently that's not how Ingraham wants to be identified.

Can you imagine the play those personal items would have received it this were a liberal woman attacked by a conservative male pundit?

I'll bet every comment and story on the subject would have mentioned those two facts.

Its ok, its ok

Submitted by NJRightWinger12 on Fri, 05/27/2011 - 12:35pm.

Besides the fact that shes a conservative, fairly attractive, right wing radio show hostess, she is an adoptive mother of 2 and went through breast cancer! Wow, if she was a lib, there would be a sh*tstorm that would have made Imus's seem like childs play! But its ok, cause shes a neo-con, right libs?

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. BEN FRANKLIN
