Rep. Robert Wexler is getting desperate.
After several media outlets discovered the Democratic congressman from Florida uses his in-laws' house in a Florida retirement community to meet residency requirements, he has sent out an e-mail (entire text here) asking for campaign donations - alleging it's his "strong and vocal stands in favor of impeaching President Bush and Vice President Cheney" that has made him a target of "ultra-conservative" media.
"In the eyes of the right wing, I am seen, along with Rep. Kucinich, as one of the symbols of the impeachment fight. They believe that if they defeat me - they defeat our cause," Wexler wrote. "For the last week, I've been relentlessly targeted by ultra-conservative radio and television hosts, as well as my local media. It has taken a toll. Now more than ever, I need your support to help me stay in Congress to represent your voice in Washington."
What does Wexler want? He is asking for donations to his re-election campaign.
Wexler has been actively promoting his book, "Fire-Breathing Liberal: How I Learned to Survive (and Thrive) in the Contact Sport of Congress," but has been less than willing to address the residency concerns raised by a political opponent he is facing in the upcoming fall election, Republican Ed Lynch.
The coverage of Wexler's residency issues has been absent from three major networks, even though he was featured on CBS's "The Early Show" on June 2 to tout Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama.
Wexler has also been a regular guest on various MSNBC and CNN shows, including a July 24 appearance on MSNBC's "Hardball," where he was "waxed" by Rep. Heather Wilson, R-N.M., as my Newsbusters colleague Mark Finkelstein pointed out in a recent post.

Sell his other houses
August 1, 2008 - 14:50 ET by ElyasHe should just sell his other residences that are not in Florida and move into the retirement community. He'll have to go there after he loses anyway.
Thomas Jefferson once said, 'We should never judge a president by his age, only by his works.' And ever since he told me that, I stopped worrying.

We couldn't be lucky enough to defeat Wexler and his phony addresses in Nov could we?
Now that would be priceless.

Actually, in New Mexico, Wilson is seen as a GOP moderate. But she is smart. I wish she had won the GOP Senate nomination instead of Steve Pierce. He's a good guy, but kind of colorless and drab. She was smeared by The Great US Attorney Firing Non-scandal.

I was hoping she would run for the Senate seat too...I know and knew why she didn't regarding the AG BS. which made me ill that a big deal was made about this, including the phone call ect.
I also know she is more moderate now and then, but when I paid more attention to the House she wasn't back then...of course that has been awhile now.
She sure is great on msnbc tossing the twits around with her wonderful words.

Wexler
August 1, 2008 - 15:17 ET by BluegillI live in his district in Palm Beach county, I want everyone in our District to know he doesn't even live here. I would be willing to protest against this clown and anyone else who won't DRILL. This is the issue that needs to be hammered home.
Huh?!?
August 1, 2008 - 15:17 ET by acumenI am seen, along with Rep. Kucinich, as one of the symbols of the impeachment fight. They believe that if they defeat me - they defeat our cause," Wexler wrote....He is asking for donations to his re-election campaign.
So continuing Wexler's thought (?) let me see if I can put this together by looking closer at Wexler's "cause":
President Bush and Vice-President Cheney, whom Wexler feels this strong compulsion (strangely more than addressing Islamo-fascism, energy independence and other actual serious issues) to remove from office, will no longer hold those positions in 5 months.
Five months would also be exactly the same time Wexler is hoping to be re-elected to work on what? Removing individuals from office who will no longer be there. I'm not sure if that would be considered setting the bar too high or too low.
And Wexler is also expecting his electorate to send money to help him oust individuals who have already left office? Well alrighty then...good luck to all you folks in Wexler's district if this moonbat is re-elected.
Journalism is dead

August 1, 2008 - 15:26 ET by candanceWho is he representing? Shall people in Maryland (where he lives) send money for him to speak for Florida (where he doesn't live)?
Here's a little tip Robbie: to raise some quick cash maybe you could sell that house in Maryland and actually live in that apartment you've rented in Palm Beach, since that is your "legal address" after all.
Wexler, Sun Sentinel Editor
August 1, 2008 - 15:30 ET by BluegillSaw the editor for Sun Sentinel's Editorial Board on Fox the other night, wondered how he would cover for Wexler. He said he should buy a place down here and help out the real estate market. Way to go after him Sun Sentinel
Out of his Liberal Grasp
August 1, 2008 - 15:42 ET by allanfThis is alarming news for Wexler. Wexler is in an overwhelmingly Democratic District in Florida an ran unopposed in 2006. I live in his District, and members of his core support group no longer speak fondly of him. The residency game, coupled with his predictable don't drill for oil mantra are not helping him.
Wexler has been positioning himself to oppose Senator Mel Martinez in 2010. O'Reilly may have knocked that out of his grasp.

August 1, 2008 - 16:24 ET by motherbeltEvery time I see Wexler, I think of his "jump the shark" moment (in my mind, nyway) when he jumped to Clinton's defense shrieking (mght not be exact wording): Role model?! The President is not supposed to be kids' role model!!"
And now, according to him, there are not even conservatives; only "ultra-conservatives."
You gotta hand it to the Democrats. The gall of this man is astounding. He is breaking the spirit, if not the letter, of the law, and he acts like he is the victim, under spurious attack! And I'll bet they all come to his defense!
Does anyone think Her Speakerness or any other Democrat will criticize him?
Does anyone think it will rain pink lemonade tomorrow?

Someone posted "drum this guy out of office", I agree 100%, but I fear it will never happen. Who would vote for someone who didn't even live in Florida? Again....Neil Boortz says that only about 50% of the population is smart enough to vote. That really pertains to the folks who voted for this clown.

I will have to check him out...don't know the name right off hand.
My Congressman is Connie Mack, I am not very impressed with him. The affair with Mary Bono (while he was married with two young children) really made me sick. Actually Mack was known as a womanizer and bar room brawler before he got in the House of Representives. Name recognition got him elected.

Just how desperate is this repulsive yabbo? Desperate enough to impeach a lame duck President in exchange for ill-gotten gain.
He needs to take up his residence in the retirement home. Clearly, Alzheimer's is taking its effect.

He'll still get re-elected
August 1, 2008 - 21:25 ET by pbthinkerIn Wexler's district, he could do anything and still get re-elected. These people still believe Bush stole the 2000 election. They still believe it's OK for Wexler to live in Maryland and represent them. The Republican, and independent, running against him aren't that well known, nor well funded, so their chances of defeating him, without some media support, are pretty slim.
The Palm Beach Post gave him a free ride, during all of this, and they cover more of the county than the Sun-Sentinel. The Sun-Sentinel did a pretty good job covering this story. They also were the ones the polled the Florida delegation to see who owned homes in Florida (everyone but Wexler).
I wish I could vote against Wexler but, alas, I'm in the wrong district. I couldn't vote for anyone who bragged that his job was to return to Washington D.C (by way of Maryland) to impeach the President. I mean this guy is nothing more than a partisan hack trying to get revenge for his hero, Bill Clinton's impeachment, and his voters don't even care. It's just amazing.

August 1, 2008 - 22:13 ET by wdhorningAs for impeachment, Wexler should be impeached for imitating a human being, since he does not have the foggiest what it means to let free speech have its natural course.

Wexler's constituents speak
August 3, 2008 - 09:53 ET by BlondeThe uber-liberal Rob Wexler is returning to his **ahem** home district next week.
Here's his published agenda for his time at "home".
Check out the reader's comments, though. Trouble in lib-land, I'd say.
Does he travel with an aide who has a GPS, so he can find his district?
...Dump the bum!
Come out and tell Wexler the Maryland resident how you feel about outsourcing a congressman from Florida.
And my favorite:
Wexler is on his knees begging. In a pathetic attempt to get contributions he has sent a letter stating "I have been one of the few lonely voices in Congress to demand accountability and now I am paying a price. The truth is I would rather lose my election than back down. But we will win if we stand together, and your contribution today will send a strong message to the right wing that our movement will not be intimidated.
