Barbara Walters: Hypocrite-in-Chief

“People are looking for something to criticize.” Yes, Barbara they are. And you were once among them.

Barbara Walters took exception to complaints from some that the Obamas made a royal mess of British protocol when meeting the queen of England. However, just over a year ago, Walters herself sniffed at the Bush White House for sending her a Christmas card containing [gasp!] “Scripture.”

On the April 2 episode of “The View,” the co-hosts discussed the murmurings that the president and first lady broke protocol when meeting the queen of England. Walters got visibly upset, waving her hands and speaking in a high, mocking tone saying, “And then people criticize because you know people are looking for something to criticize,” she said. “It makes me unhappy we are always looking for something to criticize, ‘Why did she put her arm around the queen?’.”

But on the December 14, 2007 broadcast of “The View,” she made it perfectly clear to her co-hosts and the audience that she was quite upset about a White House Christmas card she received. “Don’t you think it’s a little interesting that the president of all the people is sending out a religious Christmas card?”

In acknowledging the religious nature of Christmas, the Bushes offended exquisitely sophisticated liberal social propriety. How embarrassing!

“First of all, let me show you the cover of the White House, which is nice and bland…So that’s pleasant enough.  This is what interested me, that it is a religious Christmas card.  Usually in the past when I have received a Christmas card, it’s been ‘happy holiday’s’ and so on- And this says:

“‘You alone are the Lord.  You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them.  You gave life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you.’

“That’s from Nehemiah in the Old Testament.  I don’t remember— and I’m sure people will remind me—getting a religious card.  Now does this also go to agnostics and atheists and Muslims and –”

When the Obama White House commits a royal snafu, no one can criticize, but when the Bush White House sends out a religious Christmas card, Walters is allowed to get in a tizzy.

So much for so called journalists looking at world events "with a critical eye."

How dare people actually examine the performance of the current resident of the White House?  How dare they!?

Well, that's just one more

Well, that's just one more silly, old-fashioned tradition that is falling before the mega-star brightness of Michelle!  I'm sure the whole "don't touch the queen" thing will fall by the wayside now....as Miz Michelle sweeps all the old away and establishes new norms, even for the Queen of England!!

As for your "critical eye" comment...they are no longer watchdogs or critics of anything....they are courtiers to  King Barack and his Queen.

Barbara Walters Rants Against Bush...For Disrupting Her Walk Hom

Here is how Barbara got into the excitment of a Bush visit to New York City: Barbara Walters Rants Against Bush...For Disrupting Her Walk Home

Barbara knows the Obama's are the real royalty, not this silly Queen of England and certainly not George Bush

Irony can be pretty ironic sometimes.........

The Queen whiner whines about people whining.  Priceless!!!

walters

She's an idiot, plain and simple. Christmas is a religious holiday, no matter what the liberals say. Considering that the Bushes didn't even have to send her a card at all, she should shut up and be grateful, but that will NEVER happen.

What these people must be made of

I would be tickled pink to recieve a card from the White House, well last Christmas anyway.

.The whole issue with the Queen is that there are protocols with Britain that they like you to follow. It is rude not to. It would be like walking into a mosque with shoes on. You would not see Obama doing that would you?The Obama's messed up. The media won't criticize him because he is infallible in their eyes. This disgusting deification of Obama will go away soon and already is. This just lowers the credibility of Walters even further which is pretty hard to do at this point, but she managed to do it.

Interestinly enough, earlier

Interestinly enough, earlier in the week, the women of The View discussed protocol in England.  They made a HUGE deal of the fact that you NEVER touch the queen.  Now that MO has done it, it's not a big deal.  Earlier in the week on the same show it was a big deal.

Hypocrite in Chief Walters

I have to agree with rowdygirl, Christmas is indeed a religious holiday, and if Baba Wawa is upset receiving a religious statement on a Christmas card, she can do what other people do:  request the sender to leave her off their mailing list on the next Christmas holiday, because she is offended by people expressing their religious beliefs.

Wow.  Imagine that,

Wow.  Imagine that, sending out a religious greeting card in celebration of a religious holiday.  It is truly mind-boggling.  Why the next thing you know, we'll be giving thanks to the Lord on Thanksgiving!

Maybe Babs would have happy if there was a vibrator on her Christmas card

Protocol is important

I wonder of Barbra would be so critical of others if they criticized me for breaking protocol by putting my arm around Mrs. Obama or the President himself? That's assuming I had an arm left after the Secret Service ripped them away from my body for "assaulting" the First Lady.

Face it, Barbra, protocol is important. There are REASONS for protocol, reasons that have existed for centuries, protecting the heads of state being the most important. You don't break protocol and expect to be rewarded, even if your married to the President. So, get off your High Horse, Barbra, and observe protocol or face the repercussions for a demonstrated lack of proper behavior with public officials.

Protocol

There's no fair comparison between Ms. Walters' outrage at receiving a Christmas card from the Bush's and the criticism of Michelle Obama for her protocol gaffe.

I didn't find it "charming" or "refreshing" that Mrs. Obama disrespected the customs of a foreign government. There's really no excuse. Certainly she would have been briefed by State as to the proper protocol when meeting with the Queen of England. I don't believe she intentionally blew off the niceties, but her slip-ups were an embarassment. One may consider the customs regarding greeting the Queen archaic or even silly. But the fact remains that they are the longstanding customs of the British. I hope Mrs. Obama has learned her lesson before she finds herself in the presence of other foreign leaders who may take her ignorance of protocol and lack of respect much more seriously.

It could be

It could be that BabaWawa's issue with the scripture verse was that it was not accurate.  Since she was there when the Bible was written, she gets very picky about these things.

:-D

*lol*

Dear Baba Wawa

First.... it was a CHRISTMAS card. What did you expect?

Second.... Happy Holidays is just too generic for Christians. We celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

Third.... When will the embalming fluid they put in you finally take effect?

Fourth.... Man; I wish Gilda Radner was still alive. She'd have so much material.
