MSNBC's Selectively Edited Romney Video, Andrea Mitchell's Non-Apology Illustrate Network's Dishonesty

By Brent Bozell | June 19, 2012 | 13:41

A  A
Brent Bozell's picture

Barack Obama’s adoring cheerleaders at NBC are back in the editing room distorting the truth, and, not surprisingly, Andrea Mitchell has the gall to make no apologies for it.

First it was their vile attempt to make George Zimmerman sound like a racist to gin up racial conflict, and now they’ve set their sights on Mitt Romney who they’re desperately trying to paint as an out-of-touch, silver spoon Republican wowed by Wawa sandwiches. [Attached below page break: Our side-by-side comparison of the edited video plus video of Mitchell's non-apology]

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

This is a brazen attempt by NBC’s Andrea Mitchell to create a modern “supermarket scanner” moment for Mitt Romney where one clearly does not exist. This “gaffe” is a complete fabrication deliberately perpetrated by MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell Reports. Her attempt to right this wrong by playing a few more seconds of video today is a slap in the face. Romney was making a valid point about the efficiency of private sector innovation. He was not amazed that he could order a sandwich with a touchscreen. His message is clear as day to anyone who watches the full video of his stump speech, and should sicken anyone who compares it to Mitchell’s sensational hatchet job.

This isn’t journalism. This is make believe. Barack Obama has been damaged by his careless comment that "the private sector is doing fine" – exposing how out of touch he is with reality – and his friends in the liberal media are busy dicing up video clips to pin the "out of touch" label on his Republican rival. Several media outlets picked up on Mitchell’s "report" – including CNN and Politico – and now have to eat crow as her deception has come to light.

This is another outrageous example of how NBC will do anything to help Obama in 2012, no matter how unethical, irresponsible, and dishonest it is.

It's time to apply at Current TV. You will fit right in. You don't have time to report the truth but, have plenty of time to report lies and corrupt the news when it comes to Conservatives. You are so pathetic and a failure at what you get paid to do. An example of the the most shameful and disgraceful fool.

I had Rush on earlier and he predicted it would be a non-apology, but I don't believe even HE thought she would conjure up the excuse that she just didn't get a chance to play it.

THAT WAS your chance to play it Andrea, and you DIDN'T!!  You CHOSE to cut it where you did, and snort "amazing" with that little smirk.

He's right; NBC is now officially a laughingstock.

BTW, does anyone else think she is sounding more and more like Baba Wawa???

Submitted by richflanj on Tue, 06/19/2012 - 2:34pm.

Refuse to play their game, conservatives. Rufuse to be interviewed, refuse to even speak to any person with NBC attached to their name and resume. Just look them in the eye, say nothing, and walk away. If they start shouting their loaded questions, just say "are their any real journalists with a question?"

(I'll be holding my breath for that to start happening.)

Reprehensible, but utterly predictable

Submitted by lesterwink23 on Tue, 06/19/2012 - 2:52pm.

As appalling as this blatant falsehood is, it should surprise absolutely no one. This has become the status quo M.O. at MSDNC, whose mission is to a)help re-elect Barack Obama at any and all costs b) further the agenda and talking points of the Democratic Party and more specifically the White House. This pathetic stunt is just the latest in a series of outright lies and smears from this putrid excuse for a network. Everyone knows about the George Zimmerman 911 call hatchet job, for which there should be nothing less than a CRIMINAL investigation against those involved. And let's not forget Ed "Sgt." Schultz and his deliberate editing of a Rick Perry speech to make him appear racist towards Obama. This network has exposed itself for what it is, and there is no denying its unrepentent agenda and bias. Everyone involved in it, from the boardroom down to the security guards, is involved in a fraudulent and despicable enterprise that has given us no reason to trust it ever again.

Here's what's odd. The MSM

Submitted by celator on Tue, 06/19/2012 - 6:30pm.

Here's what's odd. The MSM "fixes" stories on a routine basis-- political, environmental and gender stories, in particular. The Zimmermann case, man-made global warming hysteria and recent Romney stories being a few of the hundreds of such phony stories. They get caught in their lies in a matter of hours, or even minutes. And then they do it again. And again. What's wrong with these people?

If I were an advertiser, I'd think twice before I'd let my company's reputation be tied to these liars.

Angrier Mitchell is the bridge

Submitted by Dan In SC on Tue, 06/19/2012 - 7:29pm.

Angrier Mitchell is the bridge between MSNBC and NBC. She works on both networks and pretends to be a "journalist."

It just goes to the mindset of the NBC brass to think it would be okay to let a rabid left wing hack like Mitchell continue to work over at the NBC network in the "news" division. There is no separate between the admitted democrat party propaganda network (MSNBC) and the so-called "unbiased" NBC news division. They are one in the same and I don't think NBC is really even trying to pretend they are not biased these days are they?

I honestly think these people are so out of touch with the average American, that they honestly believe that the rest of the nation (or the rest that counts in their minds) agrees with their upper east side Manhattan elitist mind-set that America more left than right. This despite the fact that Fox News whips their rear-ends on a nightly basis. It must take a new kind of delusion to live in as much denial as these people do.

Given the abysmal ratings of MSNBC, I think the only way they are staying in business is that they must be receiving generous donations from rich liberal fanciers and probably from the democrat party.

Its time for the Republicans to STAND UP to this. They are too scared to take on the liberal press. Time to confront them and just call them what they are...LIARS. Then, refuse to be on any program or interview with them. Its also time for us (including myself) as citizens to be aware of the products and businesses advertising on these networks and let them know we object to this type of lying journalism and refuse to do business with the sponsors. I know, easier said than done, but I'm just sick and tired of their crap...sorry.

Zimmerman, Romney - Only the Latest Frauds By NBC

Submitted by mikenk on Tue, 06/19/2012 - 11:27pm.

As to any difference between NBC or MSNBC. They didn't care in 1992 when NBC Dateline phonied a Chevy Truck gas tank explosion to 'prove' their point. And that was right on NBC, long before there ever was a MSNBC.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dateline_NBC#General_Motors_v._NBC

And that wasn't the beginning. A National Review article in 1993 chronicles several other incidence of manipulation by all of the networks, back in the 1970's.

http://walterolson.com/articles/crashtests.html

Rush Limbaugh was spot on about the phoney reporting at MSNBC.

http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/daily/2012/06/19/nbc_busted_for_doctoring_ro...

Whoever said that NBC should have their license revoked was echoing words I heard many times following that Dateline fiasco.

Submitted by HammerTime on Wed, 06/20/2012 - 1:26pm.

Seems like most of the US media has a severe case of ASMSS (A Selective Memory Storytelling Syndrome) and they are turning very dark (except for her hair). You could argue they don't even have a memory, as a result of this longtime infection, which is the very degenerative case of ASSS. I have been noticing more foreign media outlets being somewhat balanced in their view - but this US media sickness requires a clinical cleansing from such a horrible mental and emotional disorder.
