On and On It Goes: Networks Cover 'Predator Priests' As They Stay Silent on Catholic Liberty Lawsuits

By Brent Bozell | May 25, 2012 | 13:22

The broadcast networks stubbornly pushed ahead, logging another 24 hours -- now we're at four straight days --  ignoring the Catholic lawsuits against the Obama administration. And once again on Thursday night, instead of covering this historic lawsuit championing religious freedom,  the CBS Evening News offered another two and a half minutes to a “massive coverup” of Catholic sex abuse in Philadelphia. That’s five minutes on Catholic abuse charges to 19 seconds on Catholic religious freedom. ABC and NBC are still silent, completely silent.

Taxpayer-funded NPR, which has ignored Catholic religious freedom on its morning and evening newscasts all week, covered the Philadelphia trial for four and a half minutes on the show they call “All Things Considered.” The only Catholic news story worthy of consideration for these outlets seem to be dated stories on what CBS calls “predator priests.”

Twenty Catholic and evangelical leaders joined the MRC this week in calling out the networks for ignoring the Obama administration trampling on the First Amendment. Religious Americans across the board know this is not just a Catholic issue, and it's far more than the very misleading "contraception issue," the left wants it know as. It’s a freedom issue -- period. The Rabbinical Council of America issued a resolution this month commending the Catholic Church and asking for “further necessary protections to safeguard the religious rights of all Americans.”

If the White House were trampling on freedom of the press as much as they’re trampling on freedom of religion, perhaps these people might pause and reflect a minute before bowing and killing stories.

We cannot expect the secular media to provide fairness on religious issues, especially when religious leaders clash with the Obama agenda. We cannot prevent the networks from being transparently sycophantic toward the president they adore. But we can and will expose for the American people – and especially American Catholics – how the media define the “news” as anything that helps Barack Obama, and squelch and ignore any information and advocacy that would hurt Barack Obama.

Get use to it, the propaganda

Submitted by John21 on Fri, 05/25/2012 - 2:09pm.

Get use to it, the propaganda media will continue acting as a shield for the Obama administration.

They gave up even trying to hide their bias, but there is not enough honesty in those organization to admit it. They have consumed the liberal Kool-Aid and are unashamed that they have become a "public relations firm" for the DNC and the liberal agenda.
They figure if they tell enough lies that are big enough and often enough the American people will follow like sheep, and they will for awhile.
The DNC and liberals make a mistake and the propaganda media is trying desparately to hide it, the mistake is that tried to move the liberal agenda too fast. They thought with the incompetent one in the White House the could shove the agenda down our throats but it backfired when more and more people started notices the hypocrisy of the administration, the DNC and the liberal agenda.
That is why more and more people are quiting the DNC and not admitting to being liberal in their views now it is claimed "as liberal on some topics". The administrations re-election campaign is learing this by the lower support both financial and physical.

Remember when the gay

Submitted by Lakewood Ed on Fri, 05/25/2012 - 2:41pm.

Remember when the gay community was all up in arms about the Catholic Church and its teachings against homosexuality?

Then it turned out that the gays were throughout the Church already and were molesting altar boys.

Don't hear so much from the gays about the Church any more. That truth doesn't fit their agenda.

Just as the lawsuits do not fit the left's agenda. I guess if it's not in the news, it doesn't exist.

The level of intelligence in the media talking heads is below

the "Too Stupid To Classify" on the Standardized Moronic Scale.

The assault on the Christian Religion is a direct assault on the First Amendment.

You know that one?  Guarantees the "Freedom of the Press" among other RIGHTS enjoyed by the Citizens of The United States.

And when the administration installs armed enforcers in every studio, board room, newsroom, newspaper office and radio station, as well as every magazine, then will they pay attention?

When they are handed their assigned script, and find it not to their liking, will they complain to the barrel of the gun?  Or listen to the voice behind the gun?

While they're looking into that big round hole of sudden death, will they then begin to understand the reason FOR the Second Amendment?

Public School Child Predators

Submitted by Kuso Jiji on Fri, 05/25/2012 - 2:59pm.

Don't see the lamestream media overly worried about the number of children being sexually abused in our public schools. Why go after the Catholic Church and not the Teachers Union?

Question

Submitted by Model850 on Fri, 05/25/2012 - 4:28pm.

I'm not a lawyer -- I don't even play one on TV and I didn't sleep at a Holiday Inn last night, either! -- but are these lawsuits just a tad premature? Given that the provisions of the law being argued have not yet been implemented (to my knowledge, anyway) is there any real standing to sue?

I agree the traditional media should be covering the story, but if the Supreme Court rules against the health care law wouldn't that make these lawsuits moot? No Obamacare = No contraceptive mandate = No controversy for the RCC or other religious groups.

While the Church was well within its rights to file the suits maybe it would have been wiser to wait until after the Court rules next month (probably).

None of this should be construed as a defense of the shameful abdication of responsibility on the part of the traditional media.

just another way the liberal media defends and supports o'bama. this is just an attempt to divert attention away from the fact of the illegality of o'bamacare by violating a religious institutions right to practice their beliefs the way their religion instructs them. if this is all they got it is Romney in 2012!

Pedophile or Gay?

Submitted by Netstatter on Sun, 05/27/2012 - 1:16pm.

If a male adult (be they priest or whatever) goes after a male child, aren't they also homosexual? If they only go after boys, can't we say they are homosexual?

What about all this coverage of predator priests? There's lots of sexual predators period. I've certainly read a lot about predator teachers and coaches lately too.
