Hillary Clinton has no right to complain that her friends and flatterers in the media are rough on her. But when Clintons hit rough passages on the road to victory, this is what Clintons do: complain. That’s too meek. They whine.
But she obviously feels wronged by the news media when her polls begin to slip and she looks at her Barack Obama’s worshipful press clips. In fairy-tale terms, Obama is Snow White, and Hillary is the vain and wicked queen peering into the mirror and demanding to know "who is the fairest of them all?"
She can easily come to a boil over Time’s Obama cover on the December 10 issue, where Obama stands in a heroic pose with arms folded, surrounded by a glow that makes him look like a saintly icon. She can wince as he’s cast as both a greater force for idealism and target of discrimination, while she’s merely part of "machine" politics. On ABC, morning anchor Chris "Son of Mario" Cuomo asked Obama "What do you think the bigger obstacle is for you in becoming president, the Clinton campaign machine or America’s inherent racism?"
In other words, America doesn’t deserve glowing Saint Barack – unless, of course, we all vote for him to demonstrate eagerly and apologetically that we reject our inherent prejudices. But this is where we go back to the underlying silliness of Hillary’s whining, that any Democrat would complain that they face a fierce media stuffed with Cuomos, Russerts, Stephanopouloses, and other former Democratic aides and family members.
Hillary’s complain of a harsh media microscope appeared in The Washington Post on December 19. Media reporter Howard Kurtz used Time editor-at-large Mark Halperin to act as Hillary’s unofficial press secretary. "She's just held to a different standard in every respect," sulked Halperin. "The press rooted for Obama to go negative, and when he did he was applauded. When she does it, it's treated as this huge violation of propriety." While Clinton's mistakes deserve full coverage, Halperin says, "the press's flaws -- wild swings, accentuating the negative -- are magnified 50 times when it comes to her. It's not a level playing field."
When conservatives make a case for media bias to a liberal, it’s important (in fact, it’s absolutely imperative) that they deliver factual evidence examples -- quotes, studies, surveys, you name it. (And it’s never enough in the eyes of the press.) But if you’re a liberal, particularly a liberal in the media, and you want to accuse the press of tacking left, it’s acceptable just to pull wild figures out of the air. Her flaws are "magnified 50 times"? What media outlet is he following? Or is he reading someone else’s talking points?
Halperin is talking as a media insider. He’s complaining not simply about what’s appeared in the media, but what he thinks is his colleagues’ collective mood. The idea that Hillary’s treated as if she’d ever committed a "huge violation of propriety" might be something that liberals debate inside their newsroom or at the corner bar, but it’s not something a voter has seen this year in the "mainstream" press. It simply isn’t there.
Halperin accuses his colleagues of choosing sides. "Your typical reporter has a thinly disguised preference that Barack Obama be the nominee. The narrative of him beating her is better than her beating him, in part because she's a Clinton and in part because he's a young African American....There's no one rooting for her to come back."
Newsday reporter Glenn Thrush was not amused and quickly blogged that Halperin was imagining things. "Who’s the ‘typical’ reporter? As a card-carrying Typical who spends more time with Hillary Rodham Clinton than [with] his family, I have never heard a print or broadcast reporter in the trenches express a preference for Obama, overt, thinly, or thickly disguised or otherwise."
Kurtz did not tell the reader that Halperin’s ardor about a Hillary-betraying media might be due to his connections to the Clintons. Most Americans first learned of Halperin as the ABC producer who slipped George Stephanopoulos a copy of Clinton’s "thank you for saving me from the draft" letter in 1992, helping keep Clinton’s draft-dodging past from sinking his campaign.
Most Americans don’t know that Mark Halperin is the son of ultraliberal Morton Halperin, who not only served in Bill Clinton’s administration, but helped found the Center for American Progress, Hillary’s think tank and government in exile. He’s now second-in-command there. Halperin’s brother David also worked in the Clinton administration, and also works now at the Center for American Progress. Knowing these things makes it easier to judge the motivation behind his wild accusations.

Mr. Halperin, Her Royal Clintoness was the one who said "You have to deck your opponent." After that, you don't have a leg to stand on when it comes to your candidate's "propriety."

December 25, 2007 - 20:25 ET by ArchConservativeHey Hillary, I have a present for you. It's my combat boot up your pantsuit. You sniveling, whining, pampered, buffoon. If you are so afraid of FOXNews and so bent out of shape because of poor media coverage, get out of the race! LEAVE. Otherwise, suck it up, drive on, and shut the hell up.
You support the troops by supporting the mission! If you don't support the mission, have the guts to say you don't support the troops.

C'mon, Howard, you're better than that.
Plus, setting aside the anti-conservative/anti-Republican bias of the media for a moment, every campaign - local, state, national; across the political spectrum - is convinced at some point that their candidate is not getting a fair shake from the media. And now, factoring back in that bias, that complaint is probably the least valid about the candidates named Clinton who, for a variety of reasons, have always been something of a darling of the msm.
[Good post, Brent.]
Well, dahlia, as Mr. Bozell
December 25, 2007 - 21:41 ET by motherbeltWell, dahlia, as Mr. Bozell says, that's what the Clintons do...they whine. The only other politician I've seen to rival the Clintons for whining about the media was Jesse Ventura.
As for Halperin's connection with the Clintons, that doesn't matter..he's perfectly capable of being objective. It's when you have someone commenting for a Republican candidate, who has six degrees of separation from a distant relative of the candidate...then you have to consider their opinion of the media worthless, because of the "connection."

Who was that reporterette being questioned for jury duty and said of course I can be unbiased, I'm a journalist? They haven't been able to start the trial yet because everyone is still ROFL......
Merry Christmas (what's left of it anyway) and Happy New Year!
So Halperin is a Clinton stooge as is Kurtz
December 25, 2007 - 21:58 ET by Lame CherryI sincerely believe this has nothing to do with Hillary or Obama for the simple reason liberals all answer to the cartel through it's various employee fronts who pluck them out of college to serve the master agenda when the "apptitude tests show left or right leanings". If you are a Bob Novak you get your office on Kemp Square and if you are Bob Woodward you get your office bringing down Nixon.
Obama is VERY close to blowing this race into a slam dunk. The cartel can not have that as the last thing they want is another inept Jimmy Carter in a black shade. The game was to weaken Hillary who they have the goods on, but make the 3 headed hydra of HiBamaWards so weak that a stampeded delegation will vote for Al Gore to save the party.
Hillary will surge, but just enough that after it appears a win that certain files will be made public in cute video which will so turn off Democrats that no one will want the stunted twins of Obama and Edwards who could not beat Hillary.........but every Democrat will then have only one alternative, the all blovian Al Gore, already selected President of the World of awards.
Little globalist Bloomberg will ride the tide to see how he can split the party and that "above all approach" Ron Paul who is in the race to vaporize the Republican party shaves off the non sodomite Bloombergs for the libertarians who panted over Ross Perot.
The cartel wants Al Gore as he is the one who will sign over America for them to plunder the world and set up their new world order after blowing up most of it.
It is hard to believe that people like Halperin are this stupid in not seeing what is coming and that their actions.........like all these "Conservatives" parading around on radio, tv, with books claiming they speak for the American Republic all owe their millions to the same groups keeping them on top.
I conclude that a blown up world, people in Romania having their resources stolen from them, Prague in ruins, the Middle East a dust pile and Chinese communists marching 200 million person armies to the west and dropping a few in the ocean to invade America and die in Alaska just is not worth voting for Al Gore or being suckered by the RINO's, the Ron Pauls or that collective duncehood called Democrats.
Look at what the policy structure is geared for and what will happen when it fails. You think for a second the Chinese will play nice when the economic structure implodes? How about those nice Putin Russians who are poisoning people with Polonium? How about those Islamocommunists armed with bio and nuclear weapons now......think a Neo Philistine state is going to make them hate the Israeli state any less?
This is going to melt down and Al Gore is picked to implement the cartel globalists policy.
As a final note, Halperin will be one of the first rounded up and not Rush Limbaugh, because the cartel will have no use for "liberals" as liberals always raise hell and cause chaos. Halperin and his dull sheen ilk will be the first to disappear. Wake up Halperin and Kurtz and stop the blindness by your paychecks which you sold your American soul for.
Try being American.

I hate to say it, but one
December 26, 2007 - 11:03 ET by BruzillaI hate to say it, but one thing I'm learning as I get older is that Democrats aren't the morons I always thought they were. In fact, they're more and more tending to be smarter than most Republicans give them credit for. How many times have we heard Hannity or Limbaugh say something like "why can't Democrats see how phoney Hillary is?" or "how can they vote for someone who lies like that?" We all acknowledge the existence of media spin, but we seem to forget it exists when the media reports that every Democrat in the country loves Hillary.
I used to fly for the Navy, and our planes use chaff to confuse radar operators as to what is our plane and what is a swirling heap of aluminum strips, but eventually you get close enough to the radar that no amount of jamming or chaff can hide you. I think that's what we're seeing here on a political level. The Clintonistas have been busy trying to paint a picture of a country where all Democrats will line up and support Hillary out of a sense of blind alligence, and now as we get closer to the election there is just too much attention on all the candidates for any one candidate to try to hide out in the background noise. I don't see any of this as an issue of more positive coverage of Obama, but rather more coverage of Hillary. Republicans have long known what a lying, conniving, scheming, schrew she is and now the voters are getting a close look at her too.
Going back to Hannity's repeated "how can they vote for someone who lies like that?" question, the answer is "they won't".
