Letterman Glows to Obama: 'I Can't Tell You How Satisfying It Is to Watch You Work'

David Letterman, who still regularly ridicules former President George W. Bush – and has even accused him of committing “war crimes” and lacking “humanity” – didn't hide his affinity for Barack Obama during his Monday night Late Show interview of the President, while remaining unable to contain his disgust for Bush. “I can't tell you how satisfying it is to watch you work,” a beaming Letterman gushed to Obama at the conclusion of the program.

When Obama, who took two weeks of vacation in late August and early September, displayed some jealously as he quipped that his two daughters “basically just goofed off all summer, which I couldn't do,” Letterman interjected, in an obvious jab at Bush which delighted the audience: “Others have.”

In the midst of Obama reciting the benefits his health care quest would deliver, Letterman mocked Obama's opponents as he expressed befuddlement at criticisms of single-payer, government-run systems: “I know whenever you invoke like Great Britain or Canada people start to shudder, people go 'oh my God, it's socialized medicine, oh my God, it's socialized medicine.' And I'm not a socialist, but it don't sound that bad to me.”

Even with Obama as the sole guest for the hour, Bush couldn't escape derision in a “Top Ten” list pivoting off Obama's appearance – though Letterman's reading of the list was edited for time from the show that aired. In the “Top Ten Reasons Why President Obama Agreed to Appear on the Late Show,” the #2 entry: “Said 'yes' without thinking...like Bush did with Iraq.”

The “Web Exclusive” video of that “Top Ten.”

And I'm not a socialist, but it don't sound that bad to me.”

Of course it doesn't sound that bad to him.  It will never touch him.

Nor will it affect anyone he cares about.  The masses? not so much.

As an entertainer he sucks.  What's the appeal?  I don't get it.

And Letterman sucked to.

islam is a lie and Truth is killing it.

Socialists lie with

Socialists lie with ease.

Liberalism is a convenient lie.

Four Letterman

Letterman is a four letter word as far as I'm concerned! he is only funny to liberals because the only humor they see is in the filthy bashing of Conservatives and Republicans in general. Thats why he keeps going with the Bush and Cheney jokes! At least Jay leno goes after them all but doesn't limit his jokes to politics! Letterman couldn't make it as a weatherman in Indiana and certainly doesn't make it as a comedian in New York or Hollywood! He definitely belongs on a stage! Put him on the next one bound for deadwood!

Dave, can I tell you what a pleasure it is NEVER...

...to watch you work.

Barf moment

Obama hasn't been in the White House for a long enough stretch to do any work. He hasn't even spent a full week there yet. He is way too busy campaigning because that is the only thing he is good at.

"DumbAssity of Dope"

Sorry you had to watch

Sorry you had to watch this!

Did Letterman bow to Obama?  Or does that award still solely go to brian williams?

I think Brian bows,

I think Brian bows, Matthews tingles and Letterman kisses ass.

ho hum, boring Letterman

20 years ago, he could be funny. Now he is just pathetic. Old and tired.

FROM THE HOME OFFICE IN OMAHA...

The last time Letterman was funny on a regular basis was when he was still on NBC. He had just signed with CBS, but he was still allowed to finish his contract at NBC. So with 1 foot out the door, his show was fairly edgy, & funny. Since he went to CBS, not so much. By the way folks, Letterman left NBC in 1993, so he has sucked for quite a while.

I bet the guy hasn't sat doing "work" a single day since stealing the election.

Letterman is not a socialist but is pushing Obama's rationed healthcare plan? Sounds pretty socialist to me.

Healing

Hey Dave, don't worry man, that nasty fever blister you got on your lip from kissing Obama's a$$ will heal in a week or so. And you can wipe that brown off your nose now.

Speaking of wiping brown off one's nose:

What's the difference between a brown-noser and a $**t head?

Hillary

This is the guy that felt it was his duty to legitimize Hillary's candidacy for NY Senator. He gave her a "pop quiz" on the air. Only problem was he fed her all the answers in advance. The only good liberal is a...ah, what's the use?

Letterman

I know whenever you invoke like Great Britain or Canada people start to shutter, people go 'oh my God, it's socialized medicine, oh my God, it's socialized medicine.' And I'm not a socialist, but it don't sound that bad to me.”  Of course it doesn't, Dave!!!  Because while the rest of us peasants are forced to be babied by the government, who will then do a p***-poor job of babying, YOU and your ilk can just hop on a jet and fly to someplace that will provide you a doctor for a fee, who will make it snappy and cater to your every whim!!!  Just like Belinda Stronach, a Canadian MP who was specifically told to travel the the United States for breast cancer treatment!

I have NEVER thought this clown was funny in the slightest.  I never understood his appeal.

How much duct tape/chains/rope/whatever was used to keep David Letterman restrained into his chair so he couldn't go flying over the desk and then giving his own show an X-rating?

Giddy as a school girl seeing the Jonas brothers!

Well, that does it for me!

If David Letterman is so doggone impressed with Obama, I'm going to have to rethink my objections!

After all, Letterman is no socialist!

So I guess I'll also have to rethink my objections to  a single-payer system!

I think Matthews just lost his "Thrill up the leg" award!

This Is Our President?

This wimpy baby goes on the show of another wimpy baby [Remember his whining whenJay Leno was chosen over him to replace Johnny?] because he hnows he'll get his hiney kissed! He snubs Chris Wallace and Fox but sits down with Iran! All you "Change we can believe in suckers," grab your ankles and eat your heart out! By the time this Commie Brother is done, they'll be crying "Where is Dubya when you need him?"

High Chair

It is offensive to see Letterman in a chair higher than the President's. Disrepectful. Suppose Dave got a kick out of that. (I am no BO fan.).

What Johnny Carson saw in  Letterman...I have no clue.

Red Jeep

"Back in the day", Letterman USED to be a nice, easy-going, reasonable guy.

So watching Obama destroy America is satisfying to this idiot

Why am I not surprised?

-Dave

I agree with Rush. It's time for Obama to resign.

I wonder

You think Letterman ever invites Olbermann, Matthews, and a few other 'close' friends for popcorn and sodas to sit around and watch Obama speeches while they have a big 'circle jerk'? I bet Matthews wouldn't last thirty seconds!

Wow. Just seeing the headline made me want to barf.

To watch the

To watch the lost-in-the-ozone Letterman swoon over a hack, thug Chicago politician who is hell bent on ripping our liberties away from us, is one of the most cringing events ever broadcast on American television. A true hall of shame nominee.

No citizen's right to life, liberty, pursuit of happiness, or property is safe as long as Obama is President of the United States.

Keep giving them heck Dave!

David Letterman is the BEST!

Unsane, this is vintage Barry

This is what Barry likes to do: stand aside for a while and get the mood of the posters on a thread, and then jump in with the opposite opinion.

Notice he provides no support for his statement, or reason why he feels that way about Letterman.  He just takes the opposite position and waits for people to come after him.  He's the blogging equivalent of a bomb-thrower.

Barry craves attention.  Barry craves an argument.  Barry craves the opportunity to make himself feel superior.  Barry needs professional help.

I'm sure the rest of us would certainly appreciate it.

I Wonder What Letterman Would Say If...

In the midst of Obama reciting the benefits his health care quest would deliver, Letterman mocked Obama's opponents as he expressed befuddlement at criticisms of single-payer, government-run systems: “I know whenever you invoke like Great Britain or Canada people start to shutter, people go 'oh my God, it's socialized medicine, oh my God, it's socialized medicine.' And I'm not a socialist, but it don't sound that bad to me.”

I wonder what Letterman would say if his son, Harry, had been born in the hallway of the hospital. Somehow, I doubt he would be jumping for joy or ready to say how wonderful the health care system is. Do you?

Or, what if he had had to wait to get treatment for his shingles? Do you think he would saying how wonderful the health care system was if he did not get to see a doctor ASAP?

Would his family, friends and company's employees be singing the praises of a health care system that could not have immediately operated on Letterman when they discovered all the clogged coronary arteries in his heart?

Letterman’s company, World Wide Pants, has its own physician, Dr Lou Aronne. It is highly likely that between having his own physician and a very famous name, Letterman and his family would never have to face the realities of the Canadian or British health care systems. Therefore, it is out of line for him to comment on the forcing of radical changes in the health care system on others that he and his family will likely never have to suffer themselves.

We need to stop calling them "Progressives" when in reality they are big government "Socialists" who no longer value the individual's rights to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.

"I can't tell you how satisfying it is to watch you work."

When does obama ever work?  He's always on television.  I couldn't watch last night.  I knew there would be a lot of a$$ kissing.

When, exactly.....

.....does he work?  Doesn't he know the campaign is over?  Or is that all the empty suit is capable of?  And letterman......the only suit on that stage that is emptier.....possibly even angrier....for whatever reason...

things are awful

but still the fawning. I just dont get the media and hollywood dorks. And can you imagine, Bush getting a report from his CHOSEN commander in Afghanistan, and stating, "he needs to think about its meaning."

The headlines would scream:

confusion, conflict, doom, out of touch, etc etc

Two worlds for media coverage, totally driven by partisan posturing.

Top Ten

I was hoping there'd be a suitable topic on which to post this. The Top Ten list you won't see on Letterman:

Top Ten Reasons Why Obama Has Worn Out His Welcome - Courtesy of Chicago Tribune

of other people's money."

—Margaret Thatcher

Pretty good, QM

But the banner and URL say "Chicago Now." Are they affiliated with the ChiTrib?

"Four legs good... two legs better!" - George Orwell

Chicago Now

Thank you for pointing that out, IJ. The article was linked on the Trib's Home Page. Here's more information re: Chicago Now .

I think this clarifies the connection:

"One of the projects introduced to the Chicago journalism community at
the conference was the Trib's newest blog project, a news aggregator
called Chicago Now (check out their promotional video here, via the Reader)
that's being billed as "Huffington Post meets Facebook, for Chicago."
It's attracting a lot of bloggers, (they hope to have about 80 blogs
hosted on the site) - from established voices to a variety of new
writers seeking a piece of the Trib's reputed 100 million monthly page
views. But the money factor - and the perks - seem fairly limited at
this stage. Bloggers writing for the site are independent contractors,
paid wholly from traffic to their individual articles, and they're
policed (mildly) by community managers. There's no access to Trib
content - no photos, no editors - and most importantly, no press
credentials. The Chicago Now site is the online home of RedEye, the Trib's free, if content-lite youth-oriented newspaper."

of other people's money."

Obama: "Here's a towel, Dave, clean yourself up before you

hit the road."

No wonder Obama has such a huge ego.

Did anyone see the comment that Obama made a couple weeks ago when he was discussing the potential failure of Obamacare, should it pass?  He said, words to the effect that it had better succeed, after all, his reputation was on the line.

Gee, thanks, Oh Great One.  Nice to see that he kows what's really important.  Only second to his reputation would be the complete mangling of one sixth of the nations economy and the healthcare/potential lives of millions of Americans.

Asshat.

Engineering marvel

What a fete that must have been, getting those two massive egos on the same stage at the same time!

So--

how were the ratings of this media blitz?

Celebrity moves

In a feeble attempt to boost his sagging ratings, once media star Barrack Obama does the Letterman show.  What next..., "Dancing with the Stars"?

             It

It's been so long since I watched CBS, I thought Letterman had been cancelled. Of course he likes the healthcare bill. He can afford the best coverage for his family.

Top reason I don't watch Letterman: I can't stand...

the guy!  Jim Webster

Watch him work US, Dave

Yeah--what a treat. We never heard these bon mots you wrote for him before. This is why the word "WhatEV" was invented.

→ Dave Delvinyl

Letterman's rendition of "I Touch Myself" was predictable.

Little too much moaning.

A Democrat killed Harvey Milk, Nancy!

Headline Should Read

"Obama Satisfies Letterman"

"Beauty is only skin deep, but liberal's to the bone." - me

Watching B.O. work?

WORK??!!!!!??!!  When is he going to start?  All he's been doing is pandering and running his next campaign....  Work..  don't make me laugh...

Pitiful

Watch the video carefully to make sure Letterman's hands stay above the desk at all times. It's very sad, actually, I used to be a big fan of the Late Night show. This "episode" I'm afraid completely seals the deal that Dave has completely gone around the bend.

I wonder if Dave would have

I wonder if Dave would have wanted to have the emergency heart surgery he had a few years ago under a socialized medicine system.  He'd still be waiting if he wasn't already dead

I am Tired.

I am tired of a President who is more interested in his press coverage then his job.  I am tired of my Troops going down range with a President in charge who is spending more time prepping for Speeches, Town Hall meetings, and late night TV.

He got this message 3 weeks ago, “I need 40,000 more troops by October or WE LOOSE!”  Gen. McCrystal.  3 FREAKING WEEKS!

He says Sunday he wants a strategy before he makes a decision.  What has McCrystal done by asking for more troops?  He is taking on a counter insurgence position.  Protect the population, find the enemy (who is hiding behind civilians) and kill them one region at a time.  Hell Stevie Wonder could see that!

COME ON AND MAKE A DECISION!!!

Liberalism: The haunting feeling that someone, somewhere, can help themselves.

AirForce...Your post

AirForce...Your post illustrates exactly why I think we should, under this president, get the blue blazes out of Afghanistan. With a committed CIC, a clear strategy, and tactics which would allow the strategy to succeed, I'd say go get 'em.

Obama has been doofing around, delaying a clear expression of an end goal, not really saying much of anything, beyond the most vague cliches, about why we should send our troops to Afghanistan. His real purpose, it seems to me, is to create confusion and low morale in the military and, therefore, attack yet another institution in the US.

But with the militarily hapless Obama, who quite happily notes that he is uncomfortable with the concept of "victory" in Afghanistan, we are sending our men and women on a fool's errand. They are far too precious for us to allow that to happen.

Lots of us here on NB still have clear memories of Lyndon Johnson and the debacle his leadership created in Vietnam. We did more than read about it in a book. We lived through it. Nuf said.

Nope, not this time. Not again.

No citizen's right to life, liberty, pursuit of happiness, or property is safe as long as Obama is President of the United States.

celator

Clearly he is a suit and nothing but a suit with puppet strings.  The only reason I can see for him not acting on Afghanistan is he doesn't want anger his base.  Period.  He has managed to anger both the ultra-left and right.  He knows he can't get the right so get back the way lefties.

As for LBJ, your right, he let Congress fight that war from their arm chairs.

Liberalism: The haunting feeling that someone, somewhere, can help themselves.

PRESIDENT ACORN...

Air Force,

Obama does'nt know how to be President, or a politician of any level. He knows how to run for office, read a speech off of the telepromter, sound good at doing that. But he has no clue how to do anything, because each post was nothing more then a platform to getting elected to some higher office.

The only place he stayed for any length of time was in the IL state assembly, & all he did was vote "present". The moment he got elected in 2004 to the US Senate, he gave a good speech, on a very bad night for the Dems with Bush43 getting another 4 years. Right after that speech, like within minutes after, the MSM was throwing out the idea that this fresh face Obama guy could/should run for President. They did everything they could to make it happen, & it did happen. They are to blame as much as anybody for the damage this idiot will do to the USA, & we should remind them of that, all the time.

Letterman a typical anti-social socialist convert

Letterman's ego caused him first to lose his lead writer Chris Elliott in the late '80s and his show suffered greatly without Elliott's wit and comedic inventiveness. Then Letterman lost The Tonight Show to Jay Leno in the '90s, and Letterman's ego couldn't handle that at all, so he defected to CBS as a result. But Letterman's rating have never been very good because Letterman was never that good without a talented staff and a huge budget.

Letterman only means of maintaining his celebrity status and salary was to cater to Leftists in Hollywood and Washington, and, as a bitter man himself, this suited him well because Letterman was just getting back at an "unjust" system, and so he admires the minions and morons that populate the Obama administration today.

I used to think that was a

I used to think that was a gap between Letterman's front teeth. Now I realize it's his butt crack showing.

Obama appeared on “The Late Show with David Letterman” several times during his campaign, and I am glad to see that he doesn’t consider himself above Letterman’s show now that he’s been elected.Things are changing in society. Short term loans are more common, workplaces are more casual and relaxed, people use the Internet to communicate more and they realize that some traditions hinder progress instead of helping. I think President Obama’s appearance on “Letterman” shows that he is in touch with this new generation.A lot of the clips out there will only show you the jokes from the Obama on Letterman video. However, Obama did share a lot of interesting insights and messages about the economy, racism, health care and the situation in Afghanistan.Perhaps the most talked about segment of the Obama on Letterman video is the part in which Obama addressed whether cries of racism against him are valid.Read more at http://personalmoneystore.com/moneyblog/2009/09/22/obama-letterman/

Letterman Kisses Obama's Butt

Self-imposing penance: "voluntary act of devotion or self-mortification to show sorrow for a sin or misdeed."

In some Christian churches penance is considered a sacrament which includes contrition, confession, acceptance of punishment, and absolution.

Through misplaced contrition, Letterman uses his public stage for subliminal confession.  He continues to punish Bush, Cheney and Palin for the sins  Whites committed in the 1800s through the institutions of slavery and of the Jim Crow Laws. Letterman thinks he needs to assign penance onto whom he sees as symbols of White America. These symbols are in roles of leadership, serving their country to keep it the greatest nation that it is. Bush, Cheney, and Palin make themselves bigger targets because they rightly refuse to feel they are personally responsible for the  transgressions of slavery and segregation .Letterman does this to present himself to Blacks as being on their "side."  All this to appear hip, cool, chic, urban, part of the Black-is-in crowd.  This is the liberal's absolution?! Thanks, but no thanks.  I'll say my Hail Marys.
