Obama Blitz Roundup: 'Meanness' on Right, Pelosi's Warning, Only ABC Raises ACORN

In the series of network interviews recorded Friday at the White House for airing on the ABC, CBS, CNN and NBC Sunday morning interview shows, all highlighted Jimmy Carter's charge that racism is fueling the anti-Obamacare protests – with CNN's John King and NBC's David Gregory following up with Nancy Pelosi's claim the heated rhetoric may incite violence – and CBS's Bob Schieffer asserted the “meanness that has settled over our political dialogue” had “started this summer at these town hall meetings.”

Only NBC's Gregory chastised Obama for not taking on the left on malpractice reform and only ABC's George Stephanopoulos brought up ACORN, but painted Obama as a victim: “Have some of your allies made it easier for, handed your opponents some ammunition, like ACORN, for example?” Schieffer and King, but not Stephanopoulos or Gregory, pressed Obama on how seven former CIA directors urged him to drop the criminal probe of interrogations of terror suspects.

Earlier: “Obama's 'Extraordinary Media Blitz' Begins Friday Night with Focus on Racism Charge.”

I watched them all so you didn't have to and here are some notes about what the four anchors chose to pursue in their allocated 15 minutes with President Barack Obama (should also note that all devoted time to Afghanistan and the likely request for more troops):

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

♦ After Obama demurred from agreeing with Carter's racism formulation, two of the hosts treated House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who has denounced ObamaCare opponents as “un-American” and accused them of “carrying swastikas,” as an authority on civility:

John King on CNN's State of the Union:

The Speaker says it reminds her of the hateful anti-gay language in San Francisco that led to deadly violence. Jim Clyburn, who's the highest-ranking African-American in Congress says he thinks people are trying to de-legitimize you. Do you see it as that worrisome?

David Gregory on NBC's Meet the Press:

House Speaker Pelosi worried about the opposition, the tone of it, perhaps leading to violence as it did in the '70s. There's more recent examples of anti-government violence— occurring even in the mid-'90s. Do you worry about that?

♦ CBS's Bob Schieffer, on Face the Nation, twice attributed “meanness” uniquely to Obama's critics. To Obama, folding in Carter and Pelosi:

Let me ask you a little bit about the tenor of this debate. It seems to me that there is a sort of meanness that's settled over our political dialogue. It started this summer at these town hall meetings. We saw this outbreak when you spoke to the joint session. Some people clearly just don't agree with your policy. But there seem to be others that are just, just mad and angry. President Carter is now saying that he thinks it's racial. Nancy Pelosi says it could be dangerous. What do you think it's all about?

Later in the show, to RNC Chairman Michael Steele:

It seems that you and the President are on the same page on one thing and that is is racism fueling this meanness we're seeing in this debate? He says, no. He said it's people are frustrated about, they think he's trying to enlarge the government.

♦ Gregory uniquely pushed Obama about taking on the left:

But you're not really taking on, I mean, you're not saying to the left they've got to accept malpractice reform, or, or caps on jury awards. You don't even think that that contributes to the escalating cost of health care. What are you, what are you really doing to say to the left, “Look, you may not like this, but you gotta get on board and we gotta do this”?

Gregory, however, also ended on the lightest note:

On a lighter note, before I let you go, Mr. President, you were brazen this summer at the All Star game wearing your Chicago White Sox [Laughter] jacket out there to throw out the first pitch. Hate to break it to you, but doesn't look so good for your White Sox here. So I want to know, who is your pick to win the World Series?

♦ George Stephanopoulos, on ABC's This Week, quizzed Obama on how the individual insurance mandate would, in effect, mean higher taxes:

You were against the individual mandate during the campaign. Under this mandate, the government is forcing people to spend money, fining you if you don't....How is that not a tax?...I don't think I'm making it up. Merriam Webster's Dictionary: Tax -- “a charge, usually of money, imposed by authority on persons or property for public purposes.”

Stephanopoulos brought up ACORN:

STEPHANOPOULOS: Have some of your allies made it easier for -- handed your opponents some ammunition, like ACORN, for example.

OBAMA: Well, look, the -- you know, I think that -- are there folks in the Democratic camp or on the left who haven't -- haven't always operated ways that I'd appreciate? Absolutely.

STEPHANOPOULOS: Congress has just cut off all funding for ACORN. Are you for that?

....

STEPHANOPOULOS: How about the funding for ACORN?

....

OBAMA: George, this is not the biggest issue facing the country. It's not something I'm paying a lot of attention to.

Stephanopoulos concluded by wondering if Obama has ever felt in was in over his head. Obama assured him “I don't mean to be immodest here,” so no:

STEPHANOPOULOS: I just have time for one final question. I'm sure you know the story about John Kennedy's first summit with Nikita Khrushchev back in his first year in office. He meets with Khrushchev. Khrushchev cleans his clock. Kennedy walks out and knows that's exactly what's happened. I know there are no perfect analogies, but what's the moment, in the last eight months, where you took a step back and said: “Wow, I'm going to have to step up my game”?

OBAMA: You know, it's an interesting question. I mean I don't mean to be immodest here, but I don't think I've had that moment with a with a world leader...

What would the total

What would the total viewship for the 5 shows be? 3-4 million? I know they will replay the crap on their nightly news but I think that Sunday night is one of the lowest nights for viewers.  What I am saying is that nobody is watching.

Rick

I heard on Fox this afternoon that about 3% of the people watch the news shows.

Predictable

It wouldn't surprise me if it was even less today. We all know what the media was going to ask, we all knew what he was going to say, and based on the transcripts I've read, it all followed the predictable form.

Did he say anything new? No.

Sorry Brent. It must have been like the Changing of the Guard at Six Flags ...

This wasn't about news; and

This wasn't about news; and it wasn't about Obama answering questions.

It was about "appearing."  Period.  Appearing with a compliant interviewer who would ask no tough questions and would allow him all the time he wanted to preach and to bloviate.

And the fact that he appeared everywhere but on Fox proves, IMO, that neither was it ever about  convincing those who
disagree with him; he just wants constant adoration and validation of
his efforts from those who are already on his side.

Obama is still in campaign mode because that's all he knows how to do.

You're right.  "Appearing"

You're right.  "Appearing" and  speaking and being asked for his thoughts on everything. That's all he knows.

He needs constant attention and fawning over.  When he hits a rough patch, he goes to the well...the sycophantic media.  They always build him up and make him feel good again.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't almost every single "initiative" by this President been of dire importance since day one? Can't wait. Unsustainable. More important to do something. Must have a bill on my desk by the August recess. I'm pretty sure I've heard all of these, or variations thereof, o' these last 8 months.

But now I'm hearing things like: Basis for the bill. Need to work out the details. Lot of work to do. Must get this right. I also heard recently: Speech to Congress was a game-changer. He'll get it done after that one. And of course, if you oppose the One, you must be a racist.

Has there ever been an adminsitration in this much disarray in this short of time? It's almost like this guy has no executive experience in his entire career... Must like this comment- this bunch seems to be all over the map- and tv.

My favorite was his

My favorite was his contention reforming health care was a necessary part of stimulating the economy. Along with green energy, of course.

Medium is the Message

Motherbelt has it right. Sunday was about appearing. As Limbaugh pointed out on his show the "medium is the message".

I'm surprised Obama didn't host the Emmy Awards.

Re Emmys

But the Bamster did make an appearance...

Violence

So, I have been around a while in life. I remember what Ms. Peolosi was referring to. I don't recall that being due to "right wing" terrorists. How bout the riots of the 60's. Rodney King, etc. Were those perpetrated by "right wing" terrorists? I don't recall "right wing" terrorists breaking out windows during the many conferences on trade, or any of the like. So, in the end, who do they seem to be afraid of here? History would show they should fear their own...not us.

Has it been pointed out yet that Harvey Milk and George Moscone were murdered by DEMOCRAT DAN WHITE?

Don't you realize Nancy Pelosi is telling you that if you don't shut up, A DEMOCRAT WILL KILL YOU?

Observation: Obama can

Observation: Obama can chinwag all day long, but can't seem to persuade anyone to do much of anything.

Even his amazing interference and meddling into the affairs of  a state--announcing that Gov Patterson shouldn't run for office again-- is being laughed at by Patterson himself.

This Obama guy is really a very strange dude.

No citizen's right to life, liberty, pursuit of happiness, or property is safe as long as Obama is President of the United States.

Celator

Obama IS a very strange dude, but I think there's an explanation:

Megalomania:

  1. A psychopathological condition characterized by delusional fantasies of wealth, power, or omnipotence.
  2. An obsession with grandiose or extravagant things or actions.

FF, looks like a perfect

FF, looks like a perfect description.

I'm looking for his Mental Health Czar to force a change in the current DSM (now being revised, new edition due for publication in 2012) to make megalomania a virtue, and to force the editors to declare those who criticize Obama's policies as insane. Oh, yeah. It's coming.

No citizen's right to life, liberty, pursuit of happiness, or property is safe as long as Obama is President of the United States.

Obama vs Bush

Remember all the fuss over Bush not willing to admit a mistake? Well here we are again but its the Messiah so he can't possibly make a mistake!

May Obama strike you down where you sit for your blasphemy!

“I mean, let's face

“I mean, let's face it,” Obama told host David Gregory. “If you look at
the news cycle over the last--over the last week--you know, it—it--it
hasn't been the--the sensible people who, you know, very deliberately
talk about the important issues that we face as a country.  That's not
the folks who've gotten a lot of coverage.”

For once, I agree with LOTUS. I'm not hearing the sensible people who are talking about improving national security, limiting the size and scope of the federal government, lowering taxes to create new jobs, incentivising U.S. corporations via tax breaks to develop NON-UNION jobs and infrastructure (i.e., manufacturing) here at home, a sound domestic energy policy that includes developing and using domestic sources of oil, natural gas, and nuclear power, cutting useless federal and state agencies, removing illegal aliens from U.S. territory and heavily fining those that hire them, and removing from office those who do not hold those offices on a constitutional basis.

Yep, Barry's right - none of his shills are talking about any of these important issues, ones that affect every person in this country. Instead, they're talking about shoving a worthless pile of sh*t 'health reform' bill down our throats as a means to financially enslave the 285+ million who are covered by health insurance for the presumed benefit of the 15 or so million that don't pay for their own coverage (and we're already paying for them anyway).

people like these would never get on the air:

but the hate-mongerers at Huffington Post get called on during news conference. I make the distinction because the cited video does call out Barry and gang on their stirring up of hate.. but the video isn't by white people so the reverse racists can't instantly discount it.

Get ready for the "I don't recall" brigade if the ACORN mess stays in the spotlight.

The NYT sat on the bigger story of fraud, abuse, tax law violations, voter registration fraud and co-ordinated SEIU campaigning with stinky BO. It was a year ago that they spiked their own reporter's big story on ACORN. It will get recycled in round two of Big Government.

I didn't even know that ACORN was getting a whole lot of money

STEPHANOPOULOS:  How about the funding for ACORN?

OBAMA:  You know, if -- frankly, it's not really something I've followed closely.  I didn't even know that ACORN was getting a whole lot of federal money.

Meanness?

I find it amazing that with people like Rahm Emmanuel and David Axlerod in the white house, two of the most brutal and ruthless political operators ever scraped off the bottom of a rock, that the press thinks the American public is the source of meanness....

The arrogance of axlerod saying the American public is wrong is beyond imagination.....they try to prop up the empty suit....and it keeps getting harder to do.....

ACORN the Pilot Arm for The Dem

Acorn was started innocently enough to help the under privileged get homes (poor who cant afford their own home).  and with every family they helped to get a home whether by hook or by crook in a upscale location.  they won at least ten votes for the Democratic Party.

There were tons of ACORN helped families that got homes in my mothers neighborhood in North End San Bernardino.  It was a upper middle class neighborhood in the 70's.  then during the mid and late 90's ACORN got 1000's of families home in this area.

By 2001 gangsta ensignia were spray painted everywhere, the streets were filled with violence.  Many of these new home owners homes were visited by cars throughout the nights as drugs, prostitution and illegal guns were being sold out of these residences.

After the Banks foreclosed on 90% of these homes because of defaults on the Loans, the Banks repo'd them only to find that the houses were gutted, looted and destroyed on the inside, lawns were destroyed by chemicals and trees and plants uprooted and left to die.  The banks had to reinvest tens of thousands of Dollars just to repair the mess left behind by these worthless pieces of trash who did nothing but destroy the neighborhoods wherever they were given home they couldn't afford.

This is the very ACORN that was exposed in Berdoo giving illegal advice to the undercover team.  they were told get the under privileged into homes at all cost and with each home they can secure 10 votes for the next elections.  ACORN did not care that these people couldn't afford the homes many of them lied to get the home anyway.

ACORN was a tool of the Political Left to garner votes from the poor by placing them in upscale neighborhoods where their pride was puffed up and where they destroyed property values on homes of honest hard working Americans struggled 30 years to get their titles paid off.

ACORN needs to be not only cracked but crushed into dust so it can never return. And the Any Housing agency must be vetted and under the control so people who can't afford homes above their standard of living don't get them.  Banks and banks alone should help control these loans not the Govt or it's sidekick ACORN Housing Inc.

In the Great Chicago area ACORN played the race card at every bank saying they were prejudice against colored people when it came to giving loans. but two factors failed to come to light. 1) many of these "colored's" did not have enough income to safely feed their families and pay their monthly mortgage  and 2) the fact that Nation wide Bank polls done in the 90's by Citi corp showed that 75% of "colored" folk don't pay their bills on time and 82% default on car and home loans.  oh that poll was ruled unconstitutional and could not be released as a scientific poll because the poll segregated Blacks, White, Orientals, Hispanics and Other Misc Ethnic groups.

BTW Chinese, Koreans and Japanese were the top ones to pay their bills and some had paid off their debt before the due date. Also Christians were found to pay their debts off more often than non Christians (this average was taken by religion not by race).

"A man who doesn't borrow from the brains of others proves he has no brains of his own."  CH Spurgeon

Re Innocence

Agreed with one minor exception; I don't believe that ACORN was ever innnocent or primarily focused on doing any good. Their objectives from Day One were to foment socialist revolution by overloading and breaking the present system of government. ACORN grew out of the violent socialist movements of the sixties, and you can trace their roots back to Weather and SDS.

If you look at their original objectives and then look at the housing crash caused by giving mortgages to people that should never have qualified, they nearly did bring down the entire financial system of our country. Though massive intervention has rescued us somewhat, the laws and regulations that allowed the crash to happen are still in place. Congress right now is working on updating the CRA Bill. Nothing has changed.

Matthew Vadum at Townhall.com wrote an excellent article on the origins of ACORN, which should be required reading.

Did I pass the audition your HIGHness?

In the series of network interviews recorded Friday at the White House for airing on the ABC, CBS, CNN and NBC Sunday...

So Comrade Underdabus is still shopping around for a church in DC.
