Coverage of Gerald Ford too positive? Try taxpayer-supported Pacifica's "Democracy Now" radio show, with this classic headline: "President Gerald Ford Dies at 93; Supported Indonesian Invasion of East Timor that Killed 1/3 of Population."
Greg Sargent of the lefty American Prospect complains that the media's failing to remember fondly and aggressively Gerald Ford's "Vietnam is so over" comments, and their relevance for getting Bush to acknowledge defeat today.
Rosie O’Donnell racist? She should have learned Chinese and tried the joke again, says a San Jose Mercury News critic.
The left-wing image analysts at BAG News Notes say the John Edwards Katrina-exploiting photo op in New Orleans triumphantly put aside "war on terror, rah rah, Bush, macho political evangelism."

December 29, 2006 - 12:10 ET by MikeBOver at Hot Air they are talking about perhaps Saddam will be hanged today or tomorrow. The Iraqis are planning to videotape the event. CBS and ABC said they would not air the video if it is released. CNN and Fox are "thinking about it." Why this hesitation from the media? They seem eager to show the deaths of American soldiers, why not the death of this genocidal maniac? They could always black out the scene just before the rope grows taut, like CNN did with the video showing the sniper killing an American soldier. As long as they give warning what was to follow in the broadcast so that children could be sent from the room, or the television turned off by those who did not wish to view the execution, I have no problem with this whatsoever.
The media had no problem showing the Somalis dragging our dead soldiers behind vehicles in the Blackhawk Down incident, or showing our dead during Vietnam. They show scenes of devastation, including blood stains and/ bodies after disasters, natural and man-made. What is the difference? They showed scenes of Palestinians and other Muslim groups dancing in the streets and having a party upon news of the 9/11 attack. This seems to me to be hypocrisy of the highest order.

December 29, 2006 - 12:51 ET by MikeBHmmm...arrests of illegal aliens is down after the National Guard is posted along the border. But...but, according to tumbler, barriers and fences don't stop illegals from sneaking into the Promised Land. Hey, el tumbleweed, it looks to me like you may be wrong on this. The barrier to illegal immigration imposed by armed soldiers along the border certainly does deter illegals from trying to get in. I know the following is lost on your 70-year-old "idiot" mind, but build the fence high, wide, and lethal. Patrol it with NG or RA soldiers with orders to shoot as soon as the border is crossed, and it will slow the torrent to a trickle. It won't stop it entirely, but it will make the problem manageable for law enforcement for the few who do manage to get into the country illegally. Then we won't have this agitation for amnesty for illegals because there are millions of them here, and "we don't have the resources to find them all and deport them."

December 29, 2006 - 14:26 ET by tumbler_2007Hey, El Mike; you may be right --or maybe hoping.
I want all possible offenders apprehended. Did you somehow miss that little detail inserted in almost every post of mine? I approve of stopping illegal immigration. Let me know if you copy.
Also, explain why you find me to be an idiot simply because I disagree with your mad BS? And why "orders to shoot" is good policy amongst civilized people. I thought shooting unarmed men and women was a crime. As for the amnesty:
I don't agitate for that. I merely realize the other options open to our government seem hopeless. We are the government that couldn't evacuate New Orleans. How we supposed to ship out 12 million families without all looking like Nazis? (I already see a number who don't mind that.) Are you suggesting boxcars and midnight raids in every American city?
Not agitating, mind. I only suppose you have real answers to these "idiot" questions. High, wide and lethal Simpleton.

The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith."

December 29, 2006 - 15:15 ET by MikeBTumbler, on evey thread so far dealing with illegal immigration, you have taken the side of the illegals. You have maintained that a fence would not work, so don't bother. You have launched slanderous ad hominem attacks on anyone who disagrees with you, and you have studiously ignored the illegal inserted in all the arguments on this subject. Those of us who have disagreed with you have been labelled "racist", "white supremist", etc.
As for the idiot, I was quoting you. You thanked me for pointing out to a 70-year-old idiot the difference of what would compose a racist statement, and what would not. You also mentioned that Mexicans had mange. That sounds pretty racist to me, but you are of Hispanic descent, so either you were speaking from personal experience, or were attempting to put words in the mouths of posters such as myself, Blonde, big timer, Roger, et al. Which was it?

Expected better from you
December 29, 2006 - 15:39 ET by tumbler_2007Mike B,
I expected better. You now show up as a hypocrite in the bargain.
I'm not innocent of some ad hominems, but many more were launched at me, by empty headed bigots. Now you say I called Mexicans mangy, when I was doing an impression of yourselves, who truly think so. It's OK, you won't admit it or care. Now you won't acknowledge that in MANY of my posts I clearly said I approve of the deportation immediately upon capture, of illegal entrants into the U.S.
Why? It doesn't suit your agenda of character assassination; you need to paint me as a supporter of illegals. Which I couldn't be; I'm a conservative Republican. If I protest that fences won't work, it's because of my experiences. I have a dear friend in San Diego, who married a girl from Culiacan. her own family trafficks back & forth at will, illegally. They know all the dodges. I've been told of the many strategies available to an offender; as long as he's willing to take risks.
Your agenda is simple-minded and naive. Yet you think you can come on this blog and foster the murder of the offenders very casually. Showing just how crackpot your thought process is. (Now you'll accuse me of ad hominem attacks on you.) WELL? You ain't much good at border policy, fella. Opinions like yours are mere white supremacist foolishness. Think of something substantive & stop braying like a country music apple-knocker. Put on your thinkin cap and stop blowin smoke around here. I'm willing to listen to real hard, objective and feasible strategies. But not your racist drivel.

No, tumbler, not one of us implied that Mexicans are mangy or unclean, or anything of the sort. That came from your own fevered imagination.
And, once again, there you go with the "white supremacist" stuff. I did not imply anything like "White Power!", although La Raza and other organizations are into "Brown Power!" It seems to me you are the hypocrite, claiming to know our thoughts, twisting our words, impugning our motives for wanting to end illegal immigration, refusing to acknowlege we are talking about illegal immigration and inferring we are talking about immigration legal or not, launching ad hominem attacks when anyone quotes or links to facts that show how illegal immigration is a drain on our economy, claiming that you are for deporting caught illegals, then throw a hissy fit about the Swift raids. Do I need to go on?

December 29, 2006 - 19:18 ET by tumbler_2007YOU--? Beat me on points, Mike? Dream on.
You can't beat eggs. I hate the race card. Wish it had never existed in America. It would not; but everywhere we see closet racists like you, opening the can of worms out of sheer hatred. If you had pity and understanding for illegals, just deport them, don't feel bad. I don't; they're illegal.
But hate them? Denigrate them and accuse them of "destroying our country" and telling me-- because I have compassion, that I ought to get out of YOUR country? That's the race hatred nobody wants to admit. Since you're guilty, you scream about the "race card." Your hatred is so apparent I have to protect myself; you might propose "Let's shoot him too, do it to all of them." Because, Mike-- it's not rocket science. Hatred is easy to spot. You show it every time you post because you lose all sense of proportion. It's "Don't have pity; show them how much we hate them." You don't go around talking love, you hate openly. Screw the race card; yours is the HATE CARD.

December 29, 2006 - 21:15 ET by MikeBTumbler, everyone posting on this subject has beat you on points...me, Blonde, bigtimer, Roger, Unsane, all of us. Now, if I were a racist, I would have used terms like "spic", "greaser", "wetback", and so forth. If I were a racist, I would make no distinction between legal immigrants, and illegal immigrants. Once more, tumbler, legal immigrants are welcome in this country. I don't care if they are legal immigrants from Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, China, Jordan, Nigeria, Poland, or Australia. But, as soon as anyone here mentions illegal immigration, you start ranting about how we are all hating, racist, white supremacist Nazis we all are, especially when we post or link to economic studies and articles or crime statistics articles, or provide personal anecdotal experience showing an adverse impact of illegal immigration on our communities or lives. There are a few individual people whom I hate. I don't hate any race of people. So, your "yours is the HATE CARD" is a total miss. However, you, sir, play the race card with the same willingness and finesse that Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and Louis Farrakan play it. You just play it with a different race.

mike's delicate condition
December 30, 2006 - 17:52 ET by tumbler_2007Mike B and his delicate feelings. In his haste to clear himself of the Hate Card, he says:
"If I were a racist, I would make no distinction between legal immigrants, and illegal immigrants." I don't either, Mike; I make no distinctions between haters of immigrants who favor shooting illegal entrants at the border and white supremacists. The word supremacist isn't hate speech. It's accurate used against those who hate immigrants crossing a border illegally. Hate these poor critters so much they'll either refer to them casually as "cockroaches" (another white suprmacist or two said that) or advocate a FENCE to bar them, as if they were cattle.
"Once more, tumbler, legal immigrants are welcome in this country. I don't care if they are legal immigrants from Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, China, Jordan, Nigeria, Poland, or Australia. Methinks thou dost object too much, Mr. Mike. Is it called for, to spread your brotherhood all the way to Poland? To Nigeria ? ? ? I heard you just fine. You only hate what you can't control; as in Mexicans who bug you. Hahaha! Besides, I haven't the knee-jerk reaction of a white supremacist; launching Minute Men all the way to Nebraska without a warrant from our gov't, or any kind of national referendum. I speak out against pure hatred, not against immigration laws. And I do it peaceably.
But you'll accuse me of whatever pleases you. " . . . as soon as anyone here mentions illegal immigration, you start ranting--" Yes; you object much too harshly. You brook no opposition, --NONE. ---I haven't acted that way. Neither have I ranted. The rant all comes from the defensive side of our group who dislike being accused of bias against an ethnic group.
YOUR bias may not extend to legalized immigrants. But your overt hatred of illegal immigrants is unfortunately directed at a silent minority in our country. People who can't defend themselves against hate speech. People of another race. I play no card; I merely say what needs saying; Don't hate the "other". That is Xenophobia. Don't demonize the illegals; just send them back. Hatred eats up a hater. It's unholy. Love thy neighbor, Mike.

N.C. Bar Files Charges Against Duke D.A.
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - The North Carolina bar filed ethics charges Thursday against the prosecutor in the Duke lacrosse sexual assault case, accusing him of saying misleading and inflammatory things to the media about the athletes under suspicion.
The punishment for ethics violations can range from admonishment to disbarment. The complaint could also force District Attorney Mike Nifong off the case by creating a conflict of interest.
"He's got this hanging over his head," said Thomas Metzloff, a Duke law professor and member of the bar's ethics committee for the past 10 years. "It relates so much to his underlying conduct in the case."
Among the four rules of professional conduct that Nifong was accused of violating was a prohibition against making comments "that have a substantial likelihood of heightening public condemnation of the accused."
In a statement, the bar said it opened a case against Nifong on March 30, a little more than two weeks after a 28-year-old woman hired to perform as a stripper at a lacrosse team party said she was gang-raped.
This guy should not only be permanently disbarred from practicing "law" but he should be brought up on felony charges and sent to jail......

December 29, 2006 - 13:24 ET by donsalesJerry Ford's Magic
ONE OF MY favorite scenes from "Stripes" is when Bill Murray's girlfriend complains about how he constantly plays Tito Puente albums. Murray responds that, one of these days, "Tito Puente's gonna be dead, and you're gonna say, 'Oh, I've been listening to him for years, and I think he's fabulous.' "
In recent years, the Tito Puente effect has afflicted liberals to a stunning degree. The press corps, the liberal intellectual establishment and the Democratic Party once considered Ronald Reagan a warmongering, senile fascist. Now it's hard to find a self-described liberal to offer anything but praise. Barry Goldwater has also been Tito Puente-ized. His granddaughter's recent HBO documentary depicts him as a cuddly-wuddly live-and-let-live sort of guy. Hillary Clinton, James Carville and Al Franken all pony up testimonials about how swell the 1964 GOP nominee was. Younger readers might need to be reminded that the liberal establishment hated Goldwater with such a blinding passion that reason, decency and truthfulness were deemed luxuries his critics couldn't afford.
And now we have dear, sweet Jerry Ford. Everybody, it seems, loves Ford. Ted Kennedy even gave him a Profile in Courage Award a few years ago. But there's an interesting difference. Ford was Tito Puente-ized early. His decision to pardon Richard Nixon — the courageous act for which he later got his Profile award — elicited enormous criticism and, some argue, cost him the election in 1976. But he quickly rebounded and was never hated the way Reagan, Goldwater or Nixon were. Tricky Dick's rehabilitation will take awhile longer, even though he was more liberal than any president since. As with Herbert Hoover, too much has been invested in his demonization to write it off merely for decency's sake.

Iran, Terror and The Clinton 'Legacy'
U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth's ruling that the Iranian government is to blame for the killing of 19 members of the U.S. Air Force in a 1996 bombing in Saudi Arabia highlights again the weak U.S. response to Islamist terror during the Clinton administration.
In his ruling, which came in a lawsuit filed by families of 17 of the 19 U.S. military personnel killed in the attack, Judge Lamberth relied heavily upon the testimony of the man President Clinton appointed to head the FBI: its former director, Louis Freeh, who contends that Mr. Clinton and top aides like Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and disgraced former National Security Adviser Sandy Berger hindered his investigation for fear of plunging the United States and our Saudi "allies" nation into direct conflict with Tehran. By contrast, Judge Lamberth decided to look at the evidence and make a decision about Iranian involvement based on the facts rather than the requirements of diplomacy -- which often requires that inconvenient facts be swept under the rug. His findings are a devastating indictment of the role of the Iranian government (and its junior partner in terror, the Ba'athist regime in Syria) in the killing of Americans.
Mr. Freeh has said that his attempts to probe the crime were undermined by the efforts of senior Clinton administration officials to improve relations with what they believed was a "reformist" Iranian regime. U.S. investigators were only able to interview Saudi suspects arrested in connection with the bombing because of the intervention of former President George H.W. Bush, who personally requested Saudi assistance. Mr. Freeh also maintains that instead of pressing then-Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah for help with the Khobar Towers investigation, Mr. Clinton asked the Saudi royal for a donation to his presidential library. Judge Lamberth's ruling strengthens the arguments of Mr. Freeh and others who suggest that Tehran was a big beneficiary of Mr. Clinton's lethargic response to Islamofascism.

December 29, 2006 - 15:01 ET by MikeBbt, if you are sufferning from insomnia, may I suggest instead of watching the Communist News Network, read either a college Physics or Economics text? It always works for me, usually very quickly. You must be careful, though. If you are lying on your back, holding the book up to read, you may give yoursefl a concussion if you fall asleep and smack yourself in the head with the book.

The largest event of this kin
December 29, 2006 - 14:58 ET by MikeBThe largest event of this kind in 30 years..." 30 years ago, wasn't the "consensus" of climatologists that we were entering another ice age? Weren't we supposed to be "worried, very worried" that glaciers would once again cover the northern hemisphere? Wasn't one of the "solutions" to melt the polar ice caps to prevent this "crisis"? What was the cause 30 years ago of such a large iceberg? I seem to remember back then the news programs telling of an iceberg the size of Delaware entering the north Atlantic between Canada and Greenland. The fact is that glaciers and the ice caps have been calving icebergs large and small since the first glaciers formed in the first ice age. Satellite measurements show an increase in total antarctic ice mass, even as the Ross Ice Shelf is losing mass (I believe it is the Ross Ice Shelf, I could be mistaken.) Is this increase in mass a result of man made global cooling, or man made global warming? Or, maybe, just maybe, it is part of the continual cycle of nature on this planet and not the "fault" of the "evil", capitalist, United States.

MikeB, there is another asp
December 29, 2006 - 15:19 ET by MightyMouthMikeB, there is another aspect to climate that rarely gets mentioned. The Moon. The moon is actually moving away from the earth and will eventually be released from orbit. As this happens the earth will "wobble" more and more causing climate changes. Yes this will take a very long time but, effects of the sun and moon on climate, seem to be getting less press then the so called "human factor".

I got a reply from Mr. Sheffield this morning about the problems with the comment section and such...he is concerned too and will look into all of this when he gets back from his much deserved vacation...the deserved part I inserted! He wanted to let ya all know that have been asking!
Have a good one all, check in later...the mainsteam media is making me so furious I am going to go bark at it instead of here....CNN was just implying that the Bush family were going to be rejoicing, as if millions of people world-wide aren't going to be happy and relieved, if you have ever been tortured and fear someone for years, that fear does not just 'poof' disappear instantly, it takes a long time!
Saddam, hope you meet your maker real soon (I have my own opinion of where I think that is and who is his maker)...hehehee! Btw...he said he was going to go smiling....have fun you bastard!

December 29, 2006 - 20:26 ET by bigtimerI bet Saddam is wondering where Ramsey Clarke is and what the hell good he ever did!
LMAO!
Hope you still think you are going to see those 72 virgins big boy, as you quiver and quake going to your death......whose smiling now?
Saddam announced he was going to go smiling all the way to his death...yeah right thats why he has a lawyer named Giavonni or some such on CNN making a last minute appeal to the US Courts...
Laughing all the way Saddam you butchering basta*d..by the way, at least Iraqi television has it right, they are showing hours of the torture and brutality that this insane maniac committed to people on tape ( that he himself ordered taped, that he watched with amusement) before his hanging....too bad we do not follow that lead...in fact it really is pathetic we do not, maybe some people might have their own eyes opened.

I don't think so, it got turn
December 29, 2006 - 20:55 ET by bigtimerI don't think so, it got turned down in the last few minutes anyway (duh) I am speaking of Giavonni, not Clarke...anyway, my point is, we should be showing the last few hours before Saddam's death the atrocities, the torturous atrocities this creature ordered upon these people like Iraqi television is...let the light shine in, a lot of people here have no idea what all this man did to other people over the years, let alone the mass graves being unearthed...I blame our media here, we won't even show all of what really happened here during the WTC going down ...because of our so called sensitivities...
He was working with al Qaeda and all terrorists groups one way or the other, just because we had no proof with paper as the lawyers like, that doesn't mean it wasn't a fact, anymore than the WMD's not being there, according to Sada, (I think I have that name right)Saddam's pilot he flew stuff to Syria, then we have the Russian convoy going to Syria, granted, we can't prove what was in those shipments but come on....
I blame the administration and the media for not using the bully-pulpit for pounding this in over and over until people realize the ties there were with Saddam ect....
Got to run for a few....
Happy New Year Blonde to you and yours...I will check back later if able too....
