U.S. Deaths in Iraq Exceed 9-11 Count

" BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - The U.S. military death toll in Iraq has reached 2,974, one more than the number of deaths in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks in the United States, according to an Associated Press count on Tuesday.

The U.S. military announced the deaths of two soldiers in a bomb explosion southwest of Baghdad on Monday.

The deaths raised the number of troops killed to 2,974 since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003. The Sept. 11, 2001, attacks claimed 2,973 victims in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania."

Can anybody IMAGINE the AP, UPI or the NYT reporting back in 1941-42 that the death toll in WWII had exceeded that experienced during the Pearl Harbor attack?????!!!!!!!!

The AP is an enemy of this nation and is rotten to the core......

Limbaugh was talking about

Limbaugh was talking about this just a couple of weeks ago -- the MSM has been absolutely drooling, gleefully rubbing their hands in anticipation of this glorious day. Make no mistake -- the MSM will report this with dour expressions on their faces, but they've been waiting for this like a five-year-old waits for Christmas morning.

From this point forward, watch for the MSM to hammer the point that G.W. Bush is "responsible" for more Americans dying than Osama bin Laden. From here on in, Dubya is the worse criminal than OBL.

By that logic, FDR is responsible for millions of people - military and civilian - being killed, while Admiral Yamamoto is 'only' responsible for a couple thousand military deaths. After all, Hitler and Tojo didn't drop atomic bombs on civilian targets... </sarcasm>

How about all the thousands of American citizens that have potentially been saved by the war in Iraq? It is no fluke that we have not been attacked on American soil since 9/11 (4+ years) but that fact seems to confound the self proclaimed “Intellectual Elites” (LIBERALS) that dominate the Main-Stream-Media (MSM).

KCCI released on Thursday the results of The Research 2000 Iowa Poll, which was conducted from Dec. 18-20.

The poll consisted of telephone interviews of 600 likely Iowa voters and has a margin of error of no more than plus or minus 4 percentage points.

Caucus Outlook

The poll asked Iowa Democrats which candidates they would vote for if the 2008 Democratic caucus were held today.

The top three candidates were Sen. John Edwards at 22 percent, Democratic U.S. Sen. Barack Obama at 22 percent and Vilsack at 12 percent. U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton of New York came in fourth at 10 percent.

KCCI political analyst Dennis Goldford said that Edwards left himself well-positioned from the caucuses.

"Barack Obama is the rock star of the moment. What's interesting is Vilsack is ahead of Hillary Clinton in Iowa," he said.

Hillary's new strategy: The Mom President

"We've never had a mother who ever ran or was elected president…"

That was Hillary Clinton speaking earlier this week, when she appeared on the television show The View. Don't think for a minute that she was just making an interesting historical observation. No, Hillary doesn't work that way. She never says or does anything that hasn't been perfectly scripted and endlessly polled beforehand. She had a message, a new strategy to try out. So look for the new "Mom Strategy" to be the anchor of her presidential run.

Forget Soccer Moms and Security Moms; now it's going to be all Moms all the time — with Hillary as the biggest Mom of all.

LOL.....now imagine in your minds Chelsea Clinton jet setting throughout Europe, drinking up a storm, and dating older men......and then imagine Jerusalem, Beirut and/or Baghdad under a Clinton presidency......YIKES!!!!

Sorry.IraqWhen the Internatio

Sorry.

IraqWhen the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank reported two years ago that the Iraqi economy was heading for a boom, skeptics dismissed it as misplaced optimism. Now, however, even some of those who opposed the toppling of Saddam Hussein admit that many Iraqis share that optimism.

Newsweek has just hailed the emergence of a booming market economy in Iraq as "the mother of all surprises," noting that "Iraqis are more optimistic about the future than most Americans are." The reason, of course, is that Iraqis know what is going on in their country while Americans are fed a diet of exclusively negative reporting from Iraq.

The growing dynamism of the Iraqi economy is reflected in the steady increase in the value of the national currency, the dinar, against the three currencies in direct competition with it in the Iraqi marketplace: the Iranian rial, the Kuwaiti dinar and the U.S. dollar, since January 2006.

No doubt, part of the dinar's strength reflects the rise in Iraq's income from oil exports to almost $40 billion in 2006, an all-time record. But oil alone does not explain all, since both Iran and Kuwait are bigger exporters than Iraq.

The fact that civil-servant salaries have increased by almost 30 percent, with a further 30 percent due to come into effect early next year, also has helped boost demand.

But a good part of the boom is due to an unexpected flow of foreign capital. This has been facilitated by the prospect of a liberal law on direct foreign investments, which exists only in such free-trade parts of the region as Dubai and Bahrain. None of Iraq's six neighbors offers such guarantee for the free flow of capital to and from the country.

Since the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003, the number of private companies in Iraq has increased from a mere 8,000 to more than 35,000 this year. Each week an average of 60 new companies spring up in Iraq's booming areas. A good part of the investment in southern Iraq, including in Um Qasr, comes from Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates.

Iran

Iran is suffering a staggering decline in revenue from its oil exports, and if the trend continues income could virtually disappear by 2015, according to an analysis published yesterday in a journal of the National Academy of Sciences.

Iran's economic woes could make the country unstable and vulnerable, with its oil industry crippled, Roger Stern, an economic geographer at Johns Hopkins University, said in the report and in an interview.

Iran earns about $50 billion a year in oil exports. The decline is estimated at 10 to 12 percent annually. In less than five years, exports could be halved, and they could disappear by 2015, Stern predicted.

And the USA will be vilfied f

And the USA will be vilfied for all teh deaths of innocents in Iran because of teh decline in revenue and the subsequent monies spent on the people. You can bet the USA and Israel will be named and blamed in Iran.

Nuke em til they glow then shoot em in the dark. -- save my gun, shoot a liberal.

In the past that might have worked, but when the evil US is just south of them in Iraq, and the economy is booming in a "war zone", then the people might begin to see through those lies.

There was a segment on NBC's Today show where they brought in an expert on eggs (um, don't ask) to clear up the ten most popular myths surrounding eggs.

When he got to the "brown" vs. "white" debate, Ann Curry started yelling off camera that the brown eggs were better for you. The "expert" disagreed, citing that brown eggs just came from red (instead of white) chickens and were no different from one another.

Ann was furious at being corrected. She argued with the man on camera, and faux-threatened to throw a basket of eggs at him. Just goes to show that people in the MSM don't like to have their common knowledge threatened.

Hillary -- Our Daughters Drafted??? ---Has anyone thought about if Hillary gets into office that not only would she be president, but she would also be commander and chief of our armed forces. Women do not presently fight in active combat. Anyone a fan of Charles Schul

Anyone a fan of Charles Schulz? Maybe the better question would be "who isn't?" But for the hardbound edition of The Complete Peanuts 1959-1960, they chose none other than Whoopi Goldberg to write the introduction. Among the high points are:

- Whoopi refusing to divulge any real information from her personal encounter with Schulz, just her own impressions. As a matter of fact, she talks more about herself than the author she was supposed to be reminiscing about.

- After making it quite clear about how knowledgeable she is about the Peanuts characters, she cites her personal belief that Peppermint Patty is a lesbian. Yes, this is the same cartoon-girl who openly declares her crush on "Chuck" throughout the comic series. Using Whoopi's reasoning about gay children in comic strips, I would assume Schroeder would be a more likely candidate. But that's just me.

- The obligatory (and completely unsolicited) Bush-bash! Yep, I bet you were wondering why this was even being discussed on this board. It's just a little point that liberal bias is being perpetuated just as our literary icons are being immortalized.

So. . .just in case someone gave this book as a Christmas gift, you may have unknowingly gave away a bit of leftist propaganda to boot.

You're refering to Marcie. Actually, a recurring theme in Peanuts was that Patty and Marcie tended to like the same boys -- particularly Charlie Brown -- thus making them rivals as well as friends. While the pair have been depicted in recent years as lesbians (Family Guy, Robot Chicken, Saturday Night Live), Charles M. Schultz made it pretty clear from the storylines that Marcie liked boys.

For those of you who might

For those of you who might have wondered how we got up to our armpits in quicksand in Iraq, you might want to take a look at one journalist’s experience of the rush to war. Check out what Jeff Cohen has to say. He's a founder of the media watch group FAIR, and for years a pundit on CNN, Fox News and MSNBC as well as senior producer of MSNBC's "Donahue" in 2002/2003:

September 11th made 2001 a defining year in our country's history. But 2002 may have been the strangest. It began with all eyes on Osama bin Laden and ended with Osama bin Forgotten - as the White House turned its attention to Iraq. Bush's January 2003 State of the Union speech mentioned Saddam Hussein 17 times, but bin Laden not once.

Everything about my nine-month stint at cable news channel MSNBC occurred in the context of the ever-intensifying war drums over Iraq. The drums grew louder as D-Day approached, until the din became so deafening that rational journalistic thinking could not occur. Three weeks before the invasion, MSNBC Suits terminated "Donahue," their most-watched program.

For 19 weeks, I had appeared in on-air debates almost every afternoon - the last weeks heavily focused on Iraq. I adamantly opposed an invasion. I warned that it would "undermine our coalition with Muslim and Arab countries that we need to [help us] fight Al Qaeda" and would lead to "quagmire."

jb...

So you like Cohen, who cares?

I want to know what you think about the never-ending war on terror!

The point of my post was more

The point of my post was more about how a critic of the war was kept off the air in the run-up to the war in Iraq. Cohen, a liberal critic, was jerked off the air by the MSM - you know, the MSM with its "liberal" bias. Regardless of Cohen's political orientation, he was an articulate critic who should have been allowed to speak.

He wasn't the only critic that was muzzled either. Let history note that at a critical juncture in American history, we were stampeded to war by manipulated "intellegence" by the Bush Administration while the MSM followed along like good soldiers. At a time when we needed to make a sober and comprehensive examination of the wisdom of the invasion, people who had important and legitimate points of view were not allowed access to the airwaves - to the detriment of our country and against the most basic precepts of a democracy.

As for my view on the WOT, first, it's a misleading term that was created in part to cover the Administrations desire to invade Iraq from the getgo, Second, it infers that military might is the main element to defeat the Islamic fundamentalists (we've seen how well that's working) and ignored the importance of diplomatic cooperation and cooridination with allies to address the complex problems that spawn terrorism.

What we got instead of a careful, calculated application of U.S. power was the unilateral, preemptive invasion of Iraq against the wishes of most of the people of the world. It was a strategic and tactical blunder of the first order for which we will be paying for with our blood and treasure for years to come.

So what are the "complex

So what are the "complex problems that spawn terrorism."? Using diplomacy with Islamofascists (OK, that's not PC...Islamic extremists) will not work. Their only desire is to kill us. How do you negotiate with that? They have perverted their religion to believe that America is the danger to the world LONG BEFORE 9/11 or the 2000 election. You cannot with any intellectual honesty blame President Bush for their hatred for us.

That incompetent Bush Administration invasion didn't work out too well, huh? About as well as their crony-capitalism run "reconstruction" of Iraq and New Orleans/Mississippi, huh?

But, it's not all bad news. The war on the environment is going well.

Tell me again why you and you

Tell me again why you and your heroes Cohen and Chomsky aren't living in the Soviet Union?

You're whining about Katrina reconstruction? What a pitiful little baby you are.

Um, Blonde, you really should

Um, Blonde, you really should get out more. You know, take a break from the computer in your Mom's basement and go pick up a newspaper or read a book.

Latest news, FYI, about the wonderful reconstruction of New Orleans and south Mississippi, is that, after already identifying $1billion in overpayments by the Bush Administration-run FEMA, papers are reporting today that they expect to find an additional $1billion in fraud by the companies that were given no-bid contracts by the Bush Administration.

Any questions? I didn't think so.

Oh yeah, I've got questions,

Oh yeah, I've got questions, Johnbo.

So please, (without the nasty attacks) tell me how and why it was President Bush's responsibility to prepare for the natural disaster that a hurricane is?

How Bush failed to ensure New Orleans' evacuation? How Bush failed to have disaster preparedness plans in place in New Orleans? How the local and state (might I mention, democrats?) officials failed the residents of the city of New Orleans, with inadequate shelter? How Mayor George W. Bush failed to bus their asses out in the path of the biggest Cat 5 hurricane to head right at them? Yes, those are questions I have.

Have at it. I KNOW about being prepared for a hurricane. So while I'm sorry New Orleans got flattened, I could hardly care that the idiots who lived there were too stupid to think it might happen.

You wouldn't know how to get out of a rainstorm, much less out of the way of a hurricane. You'd sit there with your silly arse hanging out until you got rolled over, and then whine because you had no food, no ice, no gas, no generator, no water, etc., etc., etc. I surely hope you live somewhere disasterproof, Johnbo.

Oh, I forgot. You're a socialist. You expect the government to take all of your needs, wants and desires. Silly Johnbo.

Seems to me the only problems

Seems to me the only problems are in New Orleans. Mississippi is doing pretty well. Republican governor in Mississippi, Democrat in Louisiana.

Coincidence? I think not.

Your passionate, overwhelming, intense hatred of capitalism is showing again, Johnbo, as well as your dream of an America where every single citizen is personally spoon-fed by a bureaucrat three times a day.

You've made Cal Thomas proud

You've made Cal Thomas proud by giving "legitimacy" to HIS loony list.

As for my "lies", perhaps commentator and media observer would fit Cohen better than "journalist". He was established as per his credentials on MSNBC, Fox, etc. to speak about the developments leading up to the invasion of Iraq. His view was that of a seasoned political observer (at least as legitimate, if not more so, than Cal Thomas) and my point was simply that his opinion and views about the invasion were censored.

Is that simple enought for you, Jackoff?

He was a liberal critic censored by the "liberal" MSM. Maybe irony is too difficult for you.

Hey www.liesallthetime.conI

Hey www.liesallthetime.c...

I lurve your highly original slam of me "jackoff." Hilarious.

Sure NOW you use FOX as an unimpeachable source. Been on the schnapps since you lost the war on Christmas. Again?

But that's libz for ya. The only war they want, and that they still lose.

Nothing "unimpeachable&q

Nothing "unimpeachable" about Fox at all. Just that they ARE a media source and Cohen working for them DOES imply some level of professionalism - say, at least as much credibility as a full-moon loonie like you that spends his days howling at the MSM.

And, please, don't use me as the strawman for every percieved liveral cause that you have your undies in a knot about.

As for the "jackoff" comment, I see that you're used to that label. Why am I not surprised? I guess it just comes up when people meet you, huh?

Can you possibly ever come

Can you possibly ever come up with anything remotely witty, funny or orignal to say?

Man, you are so boring, and that includes your "insults." Ad tedium.

“…established as per his credentials…” ???

Could you help us out Johnbob? A brief read of this guys bio indicates a complete lack of experience/expertise in international affairs, foreign policy or the military. The guy is a socialist activitst with a two-bit law degree. He did some time with FOX until Mr Ailes & Co decided they could be fair and balanced without his shallow input. MSNBC decided Donohue was getting a little long in the tooth. And with a deep pool of military or ex-military sources availble to comment on conditions at the time, Cohen went out with the bath water. ( I wonder if that was about the time Olberman entered the pipeline.)

“…seasoned political observer…” ???

On a heads-up career measure just how would Mr Cohen stack-up against Cal Thomas? Realitvely speaking, as a conservative columnist, Thomas gets a lot of ink. How many papers carry Cohens work on a regular basis?

“… that his opinion and views about the invasion were censored.”

How is it that so many of you guys struggle with the meaning of that word?
