CAIR, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, is well known for bashing those who bash Islam or those who associate it with terrorism. Now they are attacking conservative columnist and radio talker Dennis Prager. Reports the AP:
An Islamic civil rights group wants a columnist removed from the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council for criticizing Rep.-elect Keith Ellison's decision to use the Quran during his ceremonial swearing-in next month.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations said Monday that comments by Dennis Prager, a columnist and conservative talk radio host, displayed an intolerance toward Islam that makes him inappropriate to serve on the council, which oversees the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington.
Prager's remark:
"Insofar as a member of Congress taking an oath to serve America and uphold its values is concerned, America is interested in only one book, the Bible. If you are incapable of taking an oath on that book, don't serve in Congress."
Says Nihad Awad, CAIR's executive director:
"No one who holds such bigoted, intolerant and divisive views should be in a policymaking position at a taxpayer-funded institution that seeks to educate Americans about the destructive impact hatred has had, and continues to have, on every society."
Prager said there was a way to fix the problem:
Ellison bringing a Bible with him along with his Quran.
"The issue has never been one of religious freedom or attitudes toward Islam," added Prager, who is Jewish. "The issue has been from the outset honoring the most important text of American history."

You make some good points about trying to learn more about others and trying to communicate. Some of my co-workers are from Morroco and are Muslim and they are really cool people. There is a young boy in my neighborhood from there as well, and he is one of the coolest kids in the neighborhood. Sometimes I watch all the kids play together, and realize that none of them seem to care about any differences, and then realize that once they get older their whole concept of thinking will probably change about how they view others in the world. I was fortunate to spend my first 18 years growing up on military bases. On military bases you have all different types of nationalities, races, and religions. You really have to learn to get along with other people, or else you'll find yourself very isolated.

muslims tell you
December 5, 2006 - 14:23 ET by tumblerEven Muslims you wouldn't call extremist have a different idea of Jesus than ours. First, Jesus isn't the only-begotten Son of God. Not in their religion. He's a prophet; and a holy man, because He's ISLAMIC.
Thus it follows, to them, He is no Messiah. Because that means He was promised to the Israelites, or Jews. (Not kosher, for a Muslim.) Also; Muhammad taught them --I guess; that Jesus didn't even DIE on the cross. He lived, and later on ascended to heaven, somewhat like Muhammad went up. So, He isn't a Redeemer. Yes, they believe Mary is a virgin. An Islamic Virgin Mary, you see. A few years ago, I disputed these things with a trio of practicing Muslims on the precursor of www.catholicbulletin... / When I had the temerity to say Muhammad was a false prophet as prophesied to come by Jesus; they lost it and began to revile me as a monkey, a pig; all the endearing terms they use against "infidels." How can there be genuine dialogue over religion when the very idea of Mohammed denies the fundamental faith of Christians.
That God's son, Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins, then rose from the dead three days later, and that all who believe in him will have everlasting life at his side in Heaven.
That's pretty set in stone isn't it? It truly does offend me to see the western media constantly refer to the "prophet" Mohammed. Sure ain't no prophet to me.

I have the bare foundations of biblical scholarship, but-- When a fanatical horde denies the divine Sonship of Our Lord, they deny the Father & the Son. In my opinion the link below is one of the best in terms of describing atrocities of the 20th Century. There is a pattern in the list. See if you can find it. I would say that all of us have more in common with each other than we think, and if we would try to learn a little more about others and maybe we can prevent atrocities. Here are some on the list that you don't hear to much about in world history. Number 5 is the Russian Civil War and you can see the people killed during the Red Terror. That would be Lenin and Trotsky who we are all constantly told are the swellest people ever. Number 11 is forced German Expulsions after WW2. Stalin and Tito wanted all of the people who had fled to Germany to be returned to them. Many people perished in this. Also don't forget that Stalin was extremly anti-Semetic and we don't hear much about that in world history either. One of the main problems is that I don't see CAIR or any of these other groups trying to learn more about others. Maybe I don't know much about them, but I don't seem to hear much praised from them for Chrisitans and Jews to try to all get along. In my opinion the left only teaches about atrocities that make left wingers look swell. They don't teach much about Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, or any other left winger committing atrocites, because as Unsane likes to say the left never does anything wrong.
As a Christian you have an extreme amount in common with the Jewish people. The fact that Jesus was Jewish seems to get lost in the translation quite a bit and the Virgin Mary was Jewish as well.
Checkout the below link and try to figure out the pattern. The author gives the answer to the pattern at the bottom. The author also cites his sources and in my opinion this author is extremly non-biased.

The Muslims attacked Christendom as well
December 5, 2006 - 14:42 ET by Carl KolchakThe Crusades are much much bigger than the Pope sending Crusaders to the Holy Land. Keep in mind the Muslims invaded Christendom as well. The Muslims were in Spain, Italy, Portugal and attacked the Byzantine Empire. The Byzantines were the ones that came to the Pope for assistance once the Seljuk Turks started attacking their empire. Keep in mind the Arabs were in charge of Jerusalem before the Seljuk Turks attacked Jerusalem and took it from the Arabs. The Seljuk Turks then slaughtered Christians and Jews in Jerusalem and wouldn't allow pilgrams to visit. Now there were also atrocities committed by the Crusaders as well. Many times when they conquered a city they would have the "kill them all and let God sort them out" mentality, but to think that for some reason in the year 2006 the only bad people are the Christians in regards to this is a farce. I would suggest people learn about James the Conqueror, El Cid, Saladin, Richard the Lionhearted, the Arabs, the Seljuk Turks, the Moors, the Almoravids and the Byzantine Empire to see that it was a two way street with attacks and the Crusaders and that both sides were instigating attacks.

December 5, 2006 - 16:19 ET by futbolisgreatThe Crusades were carried out because the Muslims decided to invade Western Lands. The Crusades would have never happened if the Muslims wouldn't have been going around declaring Jihad on anyone that they saw as an infidel.
Furthermore, Islam has a very violent begining. People might want to look into how the sons and grandsons of Muhammad were murdered, not by Westerners, but by Muslims.

2)Nazis, in fact, used SCIENCE to justify their war and the killing of countless none Arian human beings. They used Darwinism, to justify their believe that the Arian race was superior to any other race. Unlike the Muslim terrorist who use Islam to justify the murdering of Jews, Christians, and anyone else who is not a Muslim.
can you see the difference? Furthermore, you make the assumption that us Americans and Westerns are not willing to peacefully speak with Muslims. it is the other way around, Muslim terrorists are NOT interested in talking to us the infidels. When Muslims admit to this, then maybe, there will be a clean slate to start with, otherwise it is pointless.
It is amazing to me how Liberals and anti-Christians are always demanding that the Roman Catholic Church, and other Christians admit to the atrocities that have been committed by their members through out history, but they are not willing to ask the same of Muslims, who have committed infinitly more atrocities than any religions, or race before or after them.
It is amazing to me that Muslims treat women worst than they treat their rats and Liberals, who supposedly are for women rights, do not demand that Muslims nations and Muslims treat their women as equals.
It is amazing to me that you always hear a Liberal say that we must understand and co-exist with Muslim culture, but these same Liberals spit, attack, piss on Christian culture.

I think it's high time we confront liberals on this issue. One way to get them to understand what's going on is to ask two simple questions...
1. Do you want to be a Muslim?
2. Or do you want to die?
These are the two choices Islam will give them (and me) if radical islam continues to grow.

December 5, 2006 - 14:04 ET by daberkmanThere is no swearing in process where you put your hand on a bible. The swearing-in ceremony consists only of the Members raising their right hands
and swearing to uphold the Constitution. It has never
been used in an official capacity during the ceremony. (Occassionally,
Members pose for symbolic photo-ops with their hand on a Bible.)
That doesn't really have any impact on Prager not being on the board of the holocaust museum one way or the other but i do think it's important people are informed on that.

I read some of the link. Aren't there any Americans left in Congress and the Senate? Why is the professor at DePaul dismissed and people like Ward Churchill, when finally disciplined, sit around collecting over $100K per year.
I am turning paranoid. I see a great horde of America haters taking over my country or at the least ahuge number of nutless dweebs in public office.
Hats off to the Mayoor of Hazelton Pa and others like him. I don't cair what cair has to say. I am not sure if we should blame the Star/Trib or all the fools in Minnesota(a hotbed of radical anti-American sentiment).

December 5, 2006 - 16:39 ET by futbolisgreatWell, where are all the Liberals that demand seperation of Church and State?
It looks like they only care about this seperation when it comes to Christianity, not when it comes to Islam.
I mean if Liberals are going to be consistant and honest, which we all know they are incapable of, they should be outraged that anyone would swear their Oath to Congress and the USA on any Holy Book, correct?
Yet Liberals have sides with CAIR on this one, one more way that we can all see that Liberals are NOT honest when they claim freedom of religion, what they want is to destroy Christianity.

Dennis Prager's argument that
December 5, 2006 - 17:23 ET by waka wakaDennis Prager's argument that Representative-Elect Keith Ellison, the
first Muslim elected to Congress, should not be permitted to take his oath of office on a Koran is, intolerant, misinformed and downright un-American.
Prager is flat-out wrong when he asserts that Representative Ellison's use of a Koran would be "damaging to the fabric of American civilization."
To the contrary, the U.S. Constitution guarantees that, "no religious test
shall ever be required" to hold public office in America. Members of Congress, like all Americans, should be free to observe their own religious practices without government interference or coercion.
Prager's patriotic prattling is misinformed on the facts, too. No Member of Congress is officially sworn in with a Bible. Under House rules, the official swearing-in ceremony is done in the House chambers, with the
Speaker of the House administering the oath of office en masse. No Bibles
or other holy books are used at all. Members may, if they choose, also have
a private ceremony with family and friends. At these unofficial ceremonies,
Members frequently solemnize the event by taking an oath while holding a
personal family Bible.
Prager ridiculously asserts that permitting Rep. Ellison to take the
oath of office would "be doing more damage to the unity of America and to
the value system that has formed this country than the terrorists of 9-11."
What he fails to understand is that what truly unifies all Americans is a
value system built on religious freedom and pluralism, not dogmatism and
coercion.
Prager presents intolerant, ugly views. His comparison of Ellison's
desire to "choose his favorite book" to that of the right of a racist
elected to public office to use Hitler's Mein Kampf is outrageous. If
Prager were merely a blogger and radio talk-show host trying to be relevant
and provocative, these views might not merit a response. But as a
newly-appointed member of the United States Holocaust Memorial Council,
Prager and his views must be held to a higher standard.

Got Peace?
December 5, 2006 - 20:17 ET by acumenI'm having a real hard time putting together this so-called "religion of peace" together with the constant problems generated by this cult. Just not getting much peace here. Seems everytime I turn around some Muslim has got another problem with something. A more apt motto might be 'the religion of whiners'........or maybe the 'mother-in-law of all religions'.
Wouldn't it be nice if a newly elected Christian, Jew, Buddist, Hindu, Mormon or a member of any other religion had even the slightest opportunity to question whether or not they would place their hand on a Koran in a predominantly Muslim country (without losing a body part in the process)? Whiners.

December 6, 2006 - 09:55 ET by Dave RIt is only difficult if you attempt to view Islam in the context of being a “religion.” If you view it as a political movement disguising itself as a religion, it becomes much easier. Islam was founded by a murderous pedophile, Mohammed, who was also a hypocrite of the first order. This behavior continued long after he founded the “religion” of Islam. If he was a prophet, he wasn’t sent by the God we know.
