The BBC reports that John Bolton had to leave the UN due to a weakened Bush and Republican set backs in the November election. While those facts are true, a responsible reporting organization should know that Bolton failed to be confirmed prior to the election.
If the November 7 results had produced the exact same composition in the Senate, Bolton still wouldn't have been confirmed. In fact, he might have been confirmed in the last session were it not for weakness, not of Bush, but a Republican headed out of the Senate - Mr. Chafee, I presume.
Anything to keep the meme going, Democrats up, Republicans down. And of course it's all Bush's fault. The article also contains praise for Bolton from the Chinese Ambassador.
He is a casualty of the wider weakness of the Bush White House.
President Bush's UN ambassador is resigning his post because he cannot get Senate backing to stay in the job.
Bolton was appointed on a temporary basis
If Mr Bush's Republican Party had kept control of the Senate in last month's elections, they might have been able to get John Bolton confirmed.
But those Democrats who oppose him have the wind in their sails and they made it clear that the nomination was dead.

What bothers me about most
December 5, 2006 - 05:21 ET by liberal_bug_zapperWhat bothers me about most Republicans and many conservatives is that they don't recognize some very basic facts. The worldwide left has united... and that includes our leftists here in the US. It may have been a campaign ploy to show John Kerry getting all cozy with the French, and it may be a way to get ignorant locals to mistrust him.... but the truth is, they have allies all over the world, and all want to see the US as it is constituted now.... wholly defeated.
The Cold War isn't over.... it just went covert. Communism is still trying to take over the world. I mean hell, just look at Hugo Chavez in Venezuela!!! He's taking them down the road to Communism, and they're going willingly.... and they'll continue to go until they see the truth, but by that time, Chavez will have the power to enforce Communism by force and the vote will disappear.
In Europe, all socialists hate us, with the exception of some Democrats. The worldwide socialist movement has the US and US conservatives in it's crosshairs and they will not stop until we stop them by winning, or they beat us.
American conservatives are not doing what should be done, and that is begin to ally ourselves with conservatives around the world. The socialists are doing it. Their support structure is all over... ours currently is only in the US and it is loosely knit.
Anyway, their focus since World War II (which they hated by the way) was to take over the world wide press (yes, not just press in the US, but worldwide). These people have a very long term plan, and they're patient. They've been indoctrinating young journalists into their fold for years..... and we haven't done anything to stop them (freedom of the press and all). The problem is... we never saw what they were doing as a problem until many years after, and when we saw it.... pointed out by greats like Rush, and now sites like this.... they have enough power to label our voices of opposition as "nutcases".
There are a lot of people out here in the world who want to see the US fail....and go away. They want their own country to dominate. I'm in Taiwan... and many here want China to be the ruling power of the world. They're so blinded with racism (Chinese are some of the most racist people I've ever met) that they don't even care that the Communists rule right now.... they're very "ethnically" focused..... not ideologically focused. This is a danger in most of the world.... they're still ethically focused.... like Democrats, and they use that to their advantage. Anyway, I'm getting side tracked.... my main point is we have allies out here who get it.... but unless they see some media on a world stage that speaks our side of the issue, they'll give up and join our enemies (as no one wants to be left out of a movement).
Fox News isn't in Taiwan. It isn't in the world for the most part. CNN is everywhere and so, what CNN says, everyone here believes is the majority view in the US. Same with the BBC. The BBC is here in Taiwan and all over Asia, and represents only one ideology. We're losing and pretty soon, all worldwide conservatives will see is that the majority of the world is socialist.... and they'll be afraid of admitting they're conservative for fear of being ostracized and shunned.
LBZ,Your point is well-taken.
December 5, 2006 - 07:24 ET by Indiana JoeLBZ,
Your point is well-taken. It HAS seemed for a while now that nearly the whole world press is against America, and I put it down to simple jealously. That may be the root, but your point about the coordination of America-bashing just never seemed to strike me. Maybe it seemed too "paranoid." But, as the old adage has it, "it's NOT CRAZY to be paranoid if everyone really IS out to get you."
And it's also true that as more and more of the "world-wide" press turns against conservatism in general, and America in particular, we on the right will feel more ostracized and cut-off, voices in the wilderness that are in danger of just quietly fading away....
Some unifying force, or voice, is absolutely essential to preventing that from happening. Unfortunately, all we seem to have is the Web right now, and that really won't be enough. Although I must say, finding out that you're in Taiwan really opened my eyes. It's marvelous that a site like NB and others can erase those distances and the borders, and make us feel like we're all in one big room together.
But it's just an illusion. Wish I was Mudoch (well, not REALLY! Just wish I had his money, ;^) ...). A counter to the recently-evidenced bias in the world-news "wire" services is desperately needed. But, where it will come from, I have no idea....
Regards,
IJ

Bravo!
What a succinct comment..."the Cold War isn't over"...
Is Islamofascism really any different than the totalitarianism of communism?
Is the promise of "seventy-two" (burkha-clad) virgins really any different than the promise of the extermination of the exploitative bourgeois for the benefit of the down-trodden workers of the world?
The "domino theory" of the '50's, '60's and '70's still exists today.
The enemy has changed names and they strive for those "seventy-two" (burkha-clad) virgins.
Bolton Earned the Job and Should have been Confirmed...
December 5, 2006 - 08:23 ET by SamBolton deserved the job. Bush should not have caved. He should have recessed appointed him again or at the very least made a big scene about how the Dems have obstructed him. We lose as a nation when someone so right for the job is chase out over partisan politics. It's right for Bush to compromise with Dems but he better actually get something in return for a change.
Biden
December 5, 2006 - 10:00 ET by iveseenitallJoe Biden led the charge to oust Bolton. And this plagiarist wants to be president? BTW, bug zapper is right on. World Communism is far from dead. And its much more organized than anything the conservative movement has to offer. We are in deep soup and we don't seem to realize it. Liberalism/Communism/socialism is winning throughout the world. Our MSM are the useful idiots they have as an ally. The world fire is kindling and we're fiddling.

The current administration keeps making it sound as if the Democrats are blocking Bolton's nomination. Now, we all know, the Democrats would block it after they take power in January. However, the truth is that it has been the Republicans, and not JUST Senator Chaffee, that blocked Bolton's earlier nomination and this current attempt to re-nominate.
