Once gain, MSNBC's Keith Olbermann seems entertained by the thought of conservatives being shot. Less than five months after depicting the image of Rush Limbaugh as the target of gunfire during his Countdown show, on Wednesday's show Olbermann included a joke about shooting Dick Cheney during the regular "Top Three Sound Bites" segment of the show. One of the featured clips was from the Tuesday November 14 Daily Show with Jon Stewart in which Stewart asked his guest, former Democratic vice presidential candidate John Edwards, whom he would have "accidentally shot in the face" if he had been elected Vice President, to which Edwards responded "Dick Cheney." Notably, just one night earlier, Olbermann had spent an entire segment discussing whether conservative commentators had inspired a man to mail fake Anthrax letters to public figures, and to make other threats, a la King Henry's declaration "Will no one rid me of this meddlesome priest," referring to Archbishop Thomas Becket. (Transcript follows)
Below is a transcript of the relevant portion from the November 15 Countdown show:
Keith Olbermann: "But first, here are Countdown's 'Top Three Sound Bites' of this day."
Jon Stewart: "Senator Edwards, if you had been fortunate enough to be elected Vice President in 2004, who would you have accidentally shot in the face?"
[audience laughter and applause]
John Edwards: "Um, Dick Cheney."
[audience laughter and applause]

what's to approve?
November 16, 2006 - 11:41 ET by tumblerI see nothing to disapprove of, speaking of Ann Coulter; especially now that I've finally read her book, Godless.
It's truly unfortunate for us all that her book has been distilled into the Left's endless bitterness over Ann's "Jersey Girls" remarks. I found her book VERY entertaining in all the other essays as well. Particularly the way she mashed the Darwinian scientists down to a sweet & sour paste. One by one Cool Ann put the whammy on their claims. Leaving me hating the emphasis given to her Jersey Girls zingers.
Her huge put-down of the evolution touts gave me quite a special thrill, because I got myself banned from the blog at Pharyngula, for defending her there. Pharyngula, in case it's a non-starter here in this blog, is run by an elitist biology guru from some classroom in Minnesota. The man is so full of himself it's ridiculous. He and some dozen others in there disputed all Coulter had to say about "science in the classroom" as it's known by the egghead elites.
Little though I presume to know, either about Intelligent Design or about the more recent status of evolutionary science, I had to remind the boss there that evolution is a THEORY, not fact. Or, how about the "Missing Link," Prof? They wanted to punk me as well as Ann, in one fell swoop. But I began to wear down their proud self esteem at last. These rummies aren't just cocky, Gang. They're PROUD of themselves! They concluded a losing fight by banning old tumbler and selling Cool Ann short.
But believe me; after reading "Godless" it must be said: She punked THEM! Haha! She did it without resorting to the Bible or any metaphysical megillah. She just shot leaks in all of their favorite "scientific proofs." Terrific read . . .

November 16, 2006 - 00:26 ET by SportPoliticsyes msh1973, that's the problem exactly. The libs can issue their "jokes" about murdering their political opponents, but you NEVER hear it from the republicans in power.
Kerry made his "kill the mockingbird" at pennsylvania avenue comment.
Edwards has his now.
You know frankly I'd like to hear Bush and Cheney say it, because if they said it they'ed really mean it, and that would be funny. In Kerry's case - since he is a traitor, it might actually be a just punishment for him.
I have heard some wacko truther libs proclaim aloud that they would murder the President, and I reported them.
Heck - that reminds me, the libs have their death of President movie where they put Bush's face in the movie before he gets shot to death.
That seems to be wonderful to the democrats as well.
Then there was that liberal Green fella, who said he was against the death penalty but would make an exception in the case of Bush. That was Matthews or Scarborough wasn't it ? I don't recall exactly but it was posted here by one of the mods.
Oh yeah, the NPR commercial - remember - Bush was talking then they issued two shotgun blasts, then said some smart remark like that's taken care of.

November 16, 2006 - 11:14 ET by iveseenitallI wish Edwards would "contact" all the children who have been aborted since Roe v. Wade. After all, he talked to a bunch of dead babies to make his millions. Come on pretty boy, work your magic. BTW, Edwards is on the "help Africa" kick now. Take our tax money out of Iraq and send it to Africa. Those people really "want" their freedom and will fight for it. Riiight! News Flash-the bullets in Dafur kill Americans too. And when was the last time a Rowandan flew planes into the Twin Towers? Edwards is a half-fast liberal.

November 16, 2006 - 13:17 ET by ChuchulainnAs a Democrat I enjoy watching Olby and Stewart. This does not mean I agree with everything they say or do. I thought the Stewart "Shoot D C in the face" joke was a little over the line, but I realize that the Daily Show is a comedy show on the Comedy network and I won't like every joke they put out.
I also think that the people complaining about it on this blog run the risk of being hypocrites due to the fact that there are many comments here advocating harm to liberals--and this is not a comedy blog.
For example here are the footers of two regular posters on Newsbusters:
-"Save a seal club a liberal"
-"Nuke em til they glow then shoot em in the dark--save my gun, shoot a liberal"
It seems to me that if you complain about the Stewart DC joke, to be consistant you should complain about these two footers also.

November 16, 2006 - 14:03 ET by JasonCWell we know for sure that not only liberals are gay.
But proposing an amendment to the constitution to protect gay marriage is a generally liberal idea, practically by definition. Let's not make a big deal of this. Maybe we can just agree in general that joking about doing violence unto those we politically disagree with is immature and tasteless, rather than splitting every semantic hair we can find?

November 16, 2006 - 22:47 ET by gjgil82I saw it and it was hilarious! The problem is that the majority of conservatives have their heads shoved so far up their asses they wouldn't know good comedy if it hit them square in the balls (and that refers to the women too!) For crying out loud it's COMEDY CENTRAL. I for one have no illusions about what I am watching when I tune in. Obviously, some have no sense of humor.

November 17, 2006 - 07:15 ET by sarcasmoYes, it was, Bal. Regular Daily Show viewers would also know that the "Seat of Heat" bit is always especially-silly, even on a comedy version of the news. I just wish I could find a video clip of Colbert's recent segment on pre-election Limbaugh vs. post-election Limbaugh, which was hilarious.
