I have a couple of different takes on last night. But the biggest is this:
This is where I disagree with a lot of other Republicans; The Useful Idiots in the MSM still have a lot of influence, I think maybe even more than they themselves realize.
This election was by and large about the progress, or the perceived lack of it, in Iraq. And despite the arrival of the alternative media in the last 20 years, most Americans grab headlines at a minimum from the major newspapers and the major networks. And the drumbeat from these Useful Idiots is, day in and day out, negative. “So and So was killed in Iraq yesterday, lets go interview his mother.” Three more Marines died yesterday from an IED. Next day: “two US service members die in Iraq fire fight.” About six months ago I saw a USA Today Headline that said something to the effect of “Regardless of What You Call It, On the Ground its Civil War”. The sectarian violence in Iraq is no more a Civil War than the riots in LA in 1992 were. But if your only source of information in between Nacho Cheese Chalupas and Xbox games are the broadcasts and Headlines of the MSM, you eventually buy it wholesale after relentless day to day bombardment for three years.
Throwing gas on that fire is the fact that this generation of Americans live in an America so comfortable and so detached from the realities of danger in this evil world that the suffering of the oppressed in other nations is not something that many can readily identify with. So long as the Xbox comes when I hit the power button, I can get through life. What many spoiled Americans fail to realize is, the paradox of this laziness and detachment is that it is precisely that past generations of Americans had no misgivings whatsoever about the precariousness of safety and security of a world governed by force and hostility. And it was these previous generations that handed this world of safety to us. Yet so few today have any real idea of what it takes to make the world safe and comfortable. Enter into this fray of confusion, the Useful Idiots of the MSM.
Either the Useful Idiots do not agree with my premise above or they do and choose to ignore that reality. My suspicion is the former, but either way, their style of perspectiveless reporting makes them absolute vultures, preying on ignorant Americans with irresponsible, incomplete reporting on Iraq’s progress as a fledgling democracy. Want good news on Iraq? The whole story? See Bill Crawford’s posts on National Review online. http://author.nationalreview.com/latest/?q=MjE4OA==
Sadly, my view is that Iraq will in fact suffer the same fate as Vietnam in 1975. And the blood of those fallen heroes will be all over the hands of the Useful Idiots who neglected to tell the whole story. I’m disappointed that Xbox Americans voted against the Iraq endeavor. I’m disgusted with the Useful Idiots who have cultivated that mindset.
