MA. Gov. Mitt Romney & FL. Gov. Jeb Bush Come To Sarasota County...
It was quite an afternoon Thursday at Venice Airport when both FL Governor Jeb Bush and MA Governor Mitt Romney jumped up on the podium with 13th Congressional District Candidate Vern Buchanan...
There were about 200 of the GOP's faithful present that were treated to a double dose of Republicanism at the Republican Party rally for Vern Buchanan...
I managed to find where there was a breeze, but most people braved the sweltering heat in the Agape Flights hangar. The Agape owners are friends of Congressional Candidate Vern Buchanan...
Most supporters waited for about an hour for 'Jeb' and 'Mitt' to arrive...
When the governors showed up, it was all cheers and a lot of hand clapping...
Buchanan volunteers and Republican party leaders were on hand as well as candidates Doug Holder, Dan MacElroy and State Representative Nancy Detert...
Buchanan then thanked State Rep. Nancy Detert, whom he defeated in the primary, for "stepping up for the party" and endorsing his campaign. Detert introduced Governor Bush and thanked him for his first 'official visit' to Venice...
Romney, not only the current Governor of Massachussetts, but also the person who led the Salt Lake Organizing Committee for the 2002 Winter Olympics, is seen as one of the leading Republican candidate's for the 2008 presidential race...
Governor Bush pointed to Romney as "a master of the art of consensus-building and an example of how a Democrat-dominated state could be led by a talented Republican leader"...
"It's a skill that helped him be successful in leading Massachusetts through major education and economic reforms," Bush said...
"Buchanan has the same team-building skills," Governor Bush said, "and he'll need it if he succeeds in getting elected in Congress."
Bush and Romney conceded the congressional races were going to be tough, and bashed Democratic party leaders as being an unacceptable alternative...
"Would you want Nancy Pelosi to be speaker of the house?" and the crowd yelled "No!" in response to Governor Bush's remarks...
"That's just what will happen if we don't retain control the the House," Governor Bush told the crowd...
Governor Bush then warned of a "major shift in the Iraq war if Republicans are unable to retain control in Congress."
"It oozes out of them -- they want to cut and run" from the war, Governor Bush said...
"These are challenging times," Governor Romney said. "Republicans need to focus on building jobs, permanently keeping tax cuts in place and protecting the country as key priorities the Massachussetts Governor then said...
Mitt Romney is also the son of the late three-term Republican Michigan Governor and U.S. Housing Secretary George W. Romney, who ran in 1968 for president...
Also present were Firefighters from Local IAFF 2546 in their red shirts as well as Veterans from the Vets For Vern Group...
It appeared from everything I saw and heard that a great time was had by everyone who attended...
Governor Bush and Governor Romney walked thru the crowd after the Rally shaking hands and allowing pictures to be taken by the Buchanan Rally supporters...
I then proceeded up to the 'forgotten event' of the day which was 69th FL State Representative Candidate Laura Benson's Rally at Dolphin Aviation...
There was a smaller crowd there of about 40 people but there was no lack of enthusiasm for Candidate Benson...
I will add to this report that I am seeing a most definite trend developing from the GOP as they rally their Voter base. If the GOP Voters turn out on November 7 to vote, they win. There will also be quite a few of this year's voters will be 'early voters'...
Early voting starts Monday October 23 at the Supervisor of Elections Office on North Washington Street in Sarasota...
For now that's all there is out on the campaign trail...
