Limbaugh Says Couric Promised Not to 'Rebut' His Commentary

Rush Limbaugh has come under attack from conservatives for colluding with the "enemy," offering a short commentary for Katie Couric's "CBS Evening News" that will air tonight.

Chicago Sun-Times columnist Richard Roeper reported on Limbaugh's assurances to his listeners.

Limbaugh seemed greatly amused that a number of his fans and friends didn't trust him to go on the program. They figured the whole thing could be a dirty trick by those duplicitous liberals. No doubt they planned to set up Rush, "Punk'd" style.

They also criticized him for giving aid and comfort to the enemy.

"Many of you [were] accusing me of being a sellout, a phony, going over to the dark side, what have you, and I sat there in stunned amazement at this," Limbaugh said. "I've been [doing my radio show for] 18 years, and I even got e-mails from friends. One friend sent me a note with nothing but question marks in the subject line . . .

"As conservatives, for being downtrodden so long, being in the minority for so long, you have become conditioned to the left outsmarting even the best and brightest of our movement, and you have also been betrayed. . . . So I think people are just waiting there on the precipice for the latest example of, 'Oh no. We can't trust any of 'em . . .' "

I guess by " 'em," Limbaugh means the liberal media. As for people who actually think that way, a good word for them would be "paranoid." Also, "delusional."

Limbaugh went on to explain that he talked with Couric about his concerns there would be an immediate rebuttal to his views (damn that whole equal-time concept), or that he would somehow get duped -- but he received assurances from the Katester that his commentary would air in its pure, conservative state.

"Believe me on this, folks," he said. "[I'll be voicing] our views, and they're pretty hard-hitting, and they're going to be on 'The CBS Evening News,' and they haven't appeared -- these kinds of views haven't appeared much on the 'CBS Evening News' or the 'ABC World News Tonight' or the 'NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams.'
