Exxon Mobil-Hater Rachel Maddow Now Sponsored By...Exxon Mobil!
It is quite possible that no American company has received more criticism from MSNBC's Rachel Maddow than Exxon Mobil.
Despite this, at the beginning of a commercial break of her program Wednesday, an unidentified announcer said, "The Rachel Maddow Show is brought to you by Exxon Mobil" (video follows with commentary):
This announcement was followed by an Exxon Mobil commercial.
I contacted MSNBC's media relations department Thursday to find out when this sponsorship started. At press time, no one's responded to my email even though I was told on the phone to submit my inquiry that way.
A closed-caption analysis of recent shows finds an Exxon Mobil ad in almost all programs going back to December 12. There were none in December prior to that date.
To give you an idea of the hypocrisy here, according to LexisNexis, Maddow has mentioned the oil giant on well over 100 of her shows.
As you might imagine, she's not a fan of the company.
Over the years, she's complained about what oil CEOs make, oil subsidies, Exxon Mobil spills and Exxon Mobil profits.
Maddow like most of the media also believes oil and gas are a huge contributor to global warming.
According to LexisNexis, during her time at MSNBC, Maddow has done over 100 shows wherein climate change or global warming has been addressed.
So far this year, Maddow has done ten stories about Exxon Mobil, most recently on October 10 when she once again railed against pipeline spills involving the company.
As I said at the outset, it's quite conceivable that there's no other company on the planet that Maddow has spent more time criticizing since becoming an MSNBC host.
And now Exxon Mobil is one of her sponsors.
As we found out when global warming huckster and fossil fuel-hater Al Gore sold his television network to an oil-producing country, the "values" liberals preach are easily flushed down the toilet when you flash money in front of them.
Hypocrisy, thy name is Rachel Maddow.
