Daily Kos Week in Review: Shake the Disease

September 25th, 2011 6:12 PM

President Obama recently has returned to the left's good graces by proposing what amounts to a second stimulus package and by attacking the Republican congressional leadership. While Obama was in campaign mode this past week, Kossacks were in what might be called diagnostic mode, opining that Tea Party GOPers carry various mental and spiritual illnesses.

As usual, each headline is preceded by the blogger's name or pseudonym.

arlandbaee: Republicanism is contagious

...The mass majority of health care workers in America, and probably the rest of the world, are compassionate, caring, sympathetic and empathetic DEMOCRATS...

...The day will come when those who value life and work to maintain the health of others will recognize Republicans for what they are. They are a vector that carries a virulent disease that infects the human race.

Republicans are the contradiction and the flaw that retards the progress of the Human Race...

Hunter: Nutcases unite under the Tea Party banner

...You have to be at least a little impressed...at just how dedicated the Tea Partiers...are in their devotion to apparently every single conspiracy theory that comes in contact with them...[I]t seems all of America's most dull-witted and paranoid people have finally coalesced into a single, self-selecting group, and it even has a brand now. It even holds its very own presidential debates, in which each candidate is encouraged to snuggle up to them and tell them a good, scary story about the immigrants or the government coming to something-something-something, or at least jingle some keys in front of their faces for a bit to make them forget their troubles...

Ray Pensador: The GOP is officially in favor of madness

...The Republican party and its ancillary minions...represents the darkest and most vile aspect of humanity...

...[V]ery sick, disturbed, hate-filled individuals (for the most part), who because of extreme ignorance on one side of the spectrum (useful idiots), and insatiable psychopathic greed on the other (corporatist ruling class, ALEC, etc), represent the regressive and oppressive forces that have always been the main contributors to the subjugation and misery of entire populations.

And before my dear Republican and/or teabagger reader complains and points out that there are "crazy people on the Left also"...I'd like to point out that the main difference is that only the Republican party celebrates and encourages lunacy...

Dante Atkins: The Tea Party is morbid...

...It's now a simple fact that a good number of tea party voters actively like to see people die. It doesn't matter if they're innocent or guilty. It doesn't matter if there were circumstances beyond the control of those they hope will soon be deceased. It doesn't matter if sane public policy could have prevented them from dying of a painful disease.  They just need to die...

The fiscal wing of the death cult may want you to die quickly if you cost too much by being uninsured. The social conservative wing, however, wants to make sure that if you're a woman who dares to have sex, the possibility of a painful, bloody death from cervical cancer remains explicitly on the table...

chaunceydevega: ...as well as possessed

...[T]he sum effect of death's role in the political ideology of the Tea Party Republicans is akin to that of the five stages of grief. They are stuck in the anger stage of the process: the Tea Party has not yet moved on to the step that is "acceptance"...

...[T]he Tea Party is the poltergeist of American politics. It is angry and destructive...

The goal of Republicans and populist conservatives in the present is a victory at all costs, one that is Pyrrhic and couched in the language of a glorious struggle or a political holy war, right-wing jihad, and free-market austerity crusade. Consequently, an exorcism is the only viable solution to this abhorrent type of abnormal politics by the Tea Party GOP, one brought about by their fixation on the politics of death...

David Nir: House GOPers are split between the greedy and the depraved

...[W]e've had several votes so far this year which have divided the GOP caucus — divided it between those who merely want to pillage the country for the sake of the oligarchs versus those who won't rest until all of America looks like a set from Mad Max...
