Denver Paper Looking For Pot News Intern

In a sign of where liberal journalism and drug culture are going, the Denver paper Westword is seeking an intern to help the "medical" marijuana dispensary critic. A man with the byline "William Breathes" of the blog "Mile Highs and Lows" is seeking a college student to potentially earn college credit on the Mary Jane beat:

We are looking for a college student to fill what is likely the first medical marijuana dispensary critic internship ever.

Despite the title, you don't have to be a medical marijuana cardholder to be considered for this gig; there's plenty of stuff to cover about medical marijuana that doesn't require you to smoke legal herb. In fact, you'll mostly be updating dispensary listings and reviews, covering a pot meeting or two and generally helping out with our Colorado cannabis coverage. Previous blog experience helps, but isn't required -- we've all got to start somewhere.

You won't be cleaning any bongs, nor will I ever make you go get coffee. You may be subjected to secondhand herb smoke from time to time; that's an occupational hazard. But I'm sure you're up to that challenge, aren't you? Sure you are, you eager cub weed journalist!

If you're interested, you'll need to check with your school to see if you can get course credit, which is something I'm sure your advisers are going to love. Otherwise, this isn't a very lucrative position, as we can only offer stems and seeds as payment.

In the meantime, we're asking applicants for a short piece on this topic: "What medical marijuana means to me."

Steve Elliott of the Toke of the Town blog reports "My friend and colleague William Breathes, the nation's first marijuana/dispensary reviewer employed by a major newspaper chain (me being the second), is a busy man," thus requiring the intern. Both are employed by the alternative-paper chain Village Voice Media, with 13 papers.
