WaPo Loves Mother Jones, Transgender Candidate Puff Pieces?

Is The Washington Post a Democratic rag? The Post's political blog "44" (named for Barack Obama, the 44th president) has a "Currently Reading" block of links -- which clearly suggest the Post's reading habits (or promoting habits) have a liberal and Democratic tilt on Friday morning. That list starts with the hard-left magazine Mother Jones pressing full steam ahead on "The Ken Buck rape case," which is about the Democrats plucking out a rape case Buck declined to prosecute in Colorado, in case link-clickers might think it's about a rape the Republican candidate committed:

The New York Times piece has a fairly ridiculous opening, trying to find a "conservative" platform for a transgender candidate in San Francisco. "Theresa Sparks, a candidate for the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, is running on what some might see as a conservative platform: she is pro-development and anti-loitering, pro-police and anti-grime." That's a little ridiculous. Consider this paragraph from the Sparks campaign website. beyond the boasting about co-chairing the Alice B. Toklas LGBT Democratic Club:

I began my formal work as a public servant within City government in 2001, when in recognition of my effectiveness as a human rights activist, I was appointed to the San Francisco Human Rights Commission. During my time on the Commission I chaired the Task Force on Environmental Racism in Bayview/Hunters Point, held the first-ever hearings in the US after 9/11 on Violence Against People Perceived of Arab-American Descent and created a task force with members from the SFPD and the LGBT community to discuss how police deal with LGBT people in the criminal justice system, most notably transgender people.
