The battle is over and the troops are withdrawing. No, I'm not talking about Iraq, but something much more entertaining: Michael Moore has decided to end the standoff between himself and CNN, saying he's willing to "move on." As you know, Moore had a live hissy fit with Wolf Blitzer on CNN's "The Situation Room," in response to a taped critique of his movie "Sicko" by CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta.
"I trust the intelligence of the American people," Moore told The Associated Press. "I don't think there's a whole lot more to do with this other than I and others are going to be a lot more skeptical with what I see on CNN."
Lots of us are plenty skeptical about what we see on CNN. Welcome to the club, Mr. Moore! (Unfortunately for him, however, many of us are also quite skeptical about what we see in his movies.)

I always knew he was a Frenchman at heart.

July 17, 2007 - 11:39 ET by rscamp13Looks like Mr. Moore took the French way out. Speaking of which, didn't he give a speech there denegrating the intelligence of the American people? I know it was somewhere in Europe. I guess he figures that his movie is not doing well, so now he sees how intelligent the American people are.

The fact that they had you on in the first place should have been enough to earn your skepticism.

Maybe he was having trouble with his tapeworm or something in the sausages didn't agree with him. Now he's in finer fettle with the fast food & fries calming him down & he has slimmed down to 450 just so his face will fit into the TV screen.

Re: Michael Moore Flies the White Flag in CNN Flap
July 17, 2007 - 08:14 ET by mcderek3000The CNN released a report which actually concedes two mistakes. There are other issues pending, many not about the facts, but about which sources (Moore's or Gupta's) are more valid representations of today or how to interpret the information (eg: should we count elective surgery waiting lists or should they be a separate category?). Most of the main positions of the movie (eg: the low international ranking of the US health care system at 37 and falling, compared to 39 for Cuba - a third-world economically crippled country run by a dictator) are actually agreed on from both sides.
Here is the link for the report from CNN: http://www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/Movies/07/15/moore.gupta/index.html?iref=newssearch
Newsbusters - please publish actual references regarding this rather than merely your own perspective. To not mention this to your readers is lying by omission.
I believe that, since you claim to be a bias-free news source, that you should also receive and publish criticism. I understand that Newsbusters has the right to send deliberately manipulated news to people and that you have the right to provide a zone free of any criticism of yourself or opposing opinion. However, right engenders resposibility and you have failed your responsibility to always tell peple the truth.

July 17, 2007 - 09:14 ET by jpatchIt's funny you know, when people like Michael Moore talk about healthcare in America, they say, "The richest country in the world can't even provide healthcare for all of it's people, how pathetic."
We're not all equally rich in this country, and FREE healthcare is not a right. Reforms are needed in our healthcare system, but you can't use our wealth as a nation as an example of our healthcare system being corrupt.

July 17, 2007 - 07:50 ET by dahliatraversHave we moved on from Bill Clinton's 140 pardons, including of Marc Rich who traded with Iran while they were holding Americans hostage? Have we moved on from Bill Clinton giving our nuclear technology to the enemy?

Berlin or the UK?
July 17, 2007 - 11:50 ET by GalvanicI thought he made that statement in the UK. In any event, he was quoted as saying it, baring out his disdain for the people who paid millions to see his films.
I suspect the main reason Moore has decided to declare a truce with CNN is that he relies on the MSM and liberal cable channels to promote his films to the desired audience, thus saving him millions of dollars in advertising costs. If he makes a case out of their "pro-Bush/pro-war bias", he will anger them to no end, and they'll stop covering him. Moore can cry all he wants about how the Bush Administration would like to muzzle him (And of course, they haven't done a thing in that direction), but he can't afford to be muzzled by CNN and the MSM.

July 17, 2007 - 18:04 ET by Del Dolemonte"Report"? Try "Press Release". But that's beside the point.
This was interesting... POINT NO. 8: FROM MOORE'S WEB SITE: CNN: "But no matter how much Moore fudged the facts, and he did fudge some facts..." "The Truth" (from Michael Moore's Web site): This is libel. There is not a single fact that is "fudged" in the film. No one has proven a single fact in the film wrong. We expect CNN to correct their mistakes on the air and to apologize to their viewers. CNN RESPONSE: Gupta believes picking and comparing numbers from different places and times to suit an argument is not the best approach to a complicated issue like this one. Again, as pointed out earlier, by mixing types of data and time periods in some of Moore's comparisons, Gupta felt that the film effectively fudged points that could have been made just as compellingly by comparing data from the same source and time period.
