July 6, 2007 - 19:39 ET by botgIs there any coverage of the carbon-footprint of this event?
How many airline (public and especially private) are used for this?
How much electricity and from what sources (coal-fired?) is used?
How much fuel for generators?
Are all the lights compact flourescent?
If so how do they recycle the mercury?
How many private vehicles will be driven to this?
How much public transportation?
Well, you get my drift. More scare by Al

Not sure, but there was a link on Drudge earlier that said this one-day concert is going to put more CO2 into the atmosphere than Afghanistan did in all of 2006.

The total carbon footprint of the event, taking into account the artists' and spectators' travel to the concert, and the energy consumption on the day, is likely to be at least 31,500 tonnes of carbon emissions, according to John Buckley of Carbonfootprint.com, who specialises in such calculations.
Throw in the television audience and it comes to a staggering 74,500 tonnes. In comparison, the average Briton produces ten tonnes in a year.
The concert will also generate some 1,025 tonnes of waste at the concert stadiums - much of which will go directly into landfill sites.

Live Earth Irony
July 6, 2007 - 21:15 ET by P.J. GladnickI love the Live Earth Irony of having rock bands perform. The biggest carbon footprints on the planet are left by rock bands. They burn up thousands of gallons of PRIVATE jet fuel traveling to their venues. Plus they suck up huge amounts of electricity to power their lights, sound, etc.. Their stretch limos are bigger gas guzzlers than SUVs. And then there are the carbon footprints left all over the walls when they destroy their luxurious hotel rooms.
Just chilling their champagne bottles probably uses up more energy than an average family in a day.
That's why I like Bluegrass
July 7, 2007 - 02:00 ET by radiofitz34That's why I like Bluegrass PJ. Tiny carbon footprint, great sound...and no limos.
BTW Clay was very good and made interesting points on the Gibson show.
