Buckley Award for Media Excellence."
A rundown of the evening's events and winners, with a lot of pictures, as well as Real and Windows Media clips (or see text below).
The C-SPAN schedule page for Wednesday lists the exact start time at 3:21pm EDT, but it may be updated. Check it for any time change.
C-SPAN2 is also scheduled to re-run the MRC's gala at about 3:20am EDT on Wednesday night/Thursday morning. Schedule page for Thursday.
The program will run for two hours and 54 minutes.
A rundown of what you'll see:
Cal Thomas, Neal Boortz, Herman Cain, Mary Matalin, Michael Steele, G. Gordon Liddy, Pat Sajak, Ward Connerly and "Osama bin Laden" highlighted the presentations and acceptances of the MRC's "2007 DisHonors Awards: Roasting the Most Outrageously Biased Liberal Reporters of 2006" -- the showcase of the MRC's 20th Anniversary Gala -- presented on Thursday night, March 29, before an audience of more than 1,000 packed into the Independence Ballroom of the Grand Hyatt hotel in Washington, D.C.Following the presentation of the DisHonors Awards videos in five categories, a look at some "funny clips" from 2006, a highlight reel of past galas and the audience picking the "Quote of the Year," the evening was topped off with Rush Limbaugh accepting the MRC's first annual "William F. Buckley Award for Media Excellence."
DisHonors Awards winners were selected by a distinguished panel of 13 leading media observers, including Limbaugh, Tony Blankley, Ann Coulter, Steve Forbes, Mark Levin, Robert Novak, Walter E. Williams and Thomas S. Winter, who served as judges.
Cal Thomas, a syndicated columnist and panelist on FNC's Fox News Watch, served as Master of Ceremonies and explained how illness prevented scheduled presenters Sean Hannity and Ann Coulter from attending. Syndicated radio talk show host Neal Boortz presented the first two awards, followed by business leader Herman Cain who set up the funny clips and presented the third award. Mary Matalin, a former adviser to President Bush and Vice President Cheney, handled the fourth and fifth awards.
In place of the journalist who won each award, a conservative accepted it in jest. Those standing in for the winners: Former Maryland Lieutenant Governor Michael Steele, radio talk show host G. Gordon Liddy, game show host Pat Sajak and Ward Connerly, President of the American Civil Rights Institute. Plus, "Osama bin Laden" accepted an award via video from a cave in Pakistan.
The evening began with welcoming remarks from Cal Thomas, an invocation by Father John Hopkins and the Pledge of Allegiance led by Rear Admiral James J. Carey (Retired). Between the fifth award and the "Quote of the Year" competition, Cain and Dick Eckburg, the Chairman of the MRC Board Trustees, honored MRC President L. Brent Bozell with a Steven Penley painting of Bozell and conservative opinion leaders integral in the MRC's 20-year history.

What great programming for
July 4, 2007 - 05:47 ET by FairlightWhat great programming for today. David "Sorros Betta Have my Money" Brock must be sending fax bombs right about now to Brian Lamb.

July 4, 2007 - 06:40 ET by sarcasmoOne thing I'll say about Brian Lamb that you won't hear from me about many people in the media is that he's fair to libertarians and covers libertarian issues fairly at C-Span. I've been a fan since the beginning of C-Span, and the call-in shows always seem to run best with Brian -- plus I loved Booknotes. In fact, Brian's one of the only people in Washington, DC -- much less the news media -- that I'd actually like to meet in person someday, just to thank him for his fairness. (See? I'm not ALL complaints about antilibertarian bias in the media!)

C-SPAN often covered Rush's
July 4, 2007 - 07:18 ET by winston smithC-SPAN often covered Rush's live radio shows and Ann Coulter's speeches as well as several appearances with Lamb on Washington Journal when no other media outlet would dare during the Clinton dark years. For this, I will always respect Lamb for bucking the totalitarian leftist media order. But these other WJ C-SPAN hosts seriously need to get a clue when it comes to balanced journalism (with the occasional exceptions of Susan Swain and Connie Dobelle). It's become great comedy to watch them put on their best poker faces when obvious liberals defiantly call up on the conservative line misrepresenting themselves as conservatives.

July 4, 2007 - 15:52 ET by dahliatraversWhat I love about those callers is how they always start out with something like, "I vote Republican. But ..." or "I used to support George Bush but ..." and then follow that with an irrational, vituperative attack on Bush or a Republican policy, making it quickly clear that their first words were a fib and a lame attempt at credibility. And it doesn't help that they can never carry out their attack in the same calm tone as their opening remark.

July 4, 2007 - 15:58 ET by sarcasmoYeah, I think the dedicated lines experiment has pretty much failed, but it's hard to think of something that wouldn't. Needless to say, it's often tough to figure out which line I should be calling as someone who can so-easily upset the left and the right at the same time -- but I haven't called in about 3 years.

July 4, 2007 - 07:18 ET by danboDarn. I won't be somewhere I can get C-Span. Might have been the 3rd or 4th time to watched them.

July 4, 2007 - 08:02 ET by ThisnThatBut will they repeat the airing at an additional, later time, as they do for so many such airings?
I watched from beginning
July 4, 2007 - 18:51 ET by BondPlainBondI watched from beginning to end and laughed so hard, so many times, I had tears in my eyes.
It was very sad and very disheartening, though, to see so many and such varied clips of the outright Liberal hate of fellow citizens and country thinly disguised as journalism.
Via the awards show, which was produced wonderfully, I was "introduced" to a person I had never "met" before, Herman Cain. Most certainly a role model to be emulated by the youth of today's America.
My favorite clip was the Endless Love video (Bush and Blair). That was an excellent demonstration of video editing, not to mention fall-on-the-floor hilarious!
Thank you for the heads up about the airing of the ceremony, and, more importantly, for the MRC.
By the way, Brent, where did you hang that incredibly spectacular painting?
Pat Sajak?!
July 5, 2007 - 13:23 ET by RedGuyBlueStateI almost fell out of my chair seeing Pat Sajak on stage! Gimmie an 'R'!
