Dedicated to Montana Lyons, the perfect example of what I'm talking about, right here on our very own NB. Thanks, MT Lyons. "You keep on using that word; I do not think it means what you think it means." -Inigo Montoya Many of you recognize the quote from above from the 1980's Romantic/Fantasy/Comedy 'The Princess Bride'. This line was delivered after another characters' constant use of the word 'inconceivable' became suspect to grammatical accuracy. This classic line also neatly frames this excursion into politics. More and more recently, I have seen a ton of catch phrases used by people on political issues, usually directed at our government. I have come to discover that when I see these catch phrases, I can almost certainly dismiss the poster as 'incredible' or 'absurd', and no longer worry about trying to reason with them. In other words, the give me signs that they really haven't the foggiest clue as to what they are talking about. Nazi and/or Hitler This is a popular word used by nuts to describe pretty much anyone they don't like. Using the most recent examples of calling the President a Nazi, or saying Bush and Hitler are so similar it's scary. DING! Moron! Let's add a bit of a historical perspective to this, shall we? It's really amazing how often context clears our heads of inaccuracies. The word 'Nazi' is a shortened version of 'Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterparte' (National Socialist German Workers' Party). Since Hitler, the word has been bent to mean something more like 'Hitleresque', either in ideals or towards a specific subject (i.e. I had a music instructor we nicknamed the 'Note Nazi'). Now the blanket terms of 'Nazi' and 'Hitler' are wildly thrown at our democratically elected president, but if you want to really throw that term around, you'd better know what you are talking about. The Nazi party, and Hitler himself were socialists, believing the government should provide a livelihood for it's citizens. Hitler was also an imperialist, using the military to expand Germany's borders by force. Other Characteristics if Nazism are: - Racism (Germans were the 'master race') - Antisemitism (Similar to Racism, but far worse in the case of the Nazis) - Anti-Capitalism - State-Religious (Imposing the previously mentioned attributes into existing religions, forcibly, if necessary) Clearly anyone who has done any historic research, or has taken 6th Grade History, can see that you cannot attribute any of the before mentioned to our democratically elected president. Not even close, you can allege, but that's all, there is nothing left in this argument. For pity's sake; I see these nuts waving swastikas around, calling Bush a Nazi, while at the same time charging that the US is a Zionist-controlled nation. HELLO? Do you KNOW what you are talking about? Obviously not. Police State (and variants thereof) This one is a doosey. When the nuts start talking and they throw out this lunatic attitude that we are somehow in a police state, the moron bell should instantly deafen your ears. Then you throw in there all of these tabloid websites such as Prison Planet and InfoWars to stir the pot and fan the flame. Dictionary.com defines "Police State" as follows: "A state in which the government exercises rigid and repressive controls over the social, economic, and political life of the people, especially by means of a secret police force." or "A nation whose rulers maintain order and obedience by the threat of police or military force; one with a brutal, arbitrary government." Lets exercises a little common sense here. Have you ever been bullied by the government for your political views? Were you arrested and held in solitary confinement after you voted for Kerry in 2004 instead of Bush? Have you been beaten by federal troops for expressing your antiwar opinion? ARE YOU KIDDING? This doesn't require much, but it's safe to say here, that the loose use of this phrase shows us, once again, that these clowns have ABSOLUTELY no idea what they're talking about. It's easy to see: 1. The clowns that are alleging this would 'disappear'. They haven't yet, they keep spawning like black mold in a damp room. 2. Antiwar marches would be quickly and brutally suppressed. These anti-American swine are hardly suppressed, to the contrary, they are PROMOTED by the media. 3. State News would promote Government agenda. This is clearly not the case, as the news organizations are waging some crusade against President Bush, especially the government-run PBS. No, my friends, the US is FAR from a police state. Let's look at some contemporary and historical examples of 'police states' 1. China 2. USSR 3. Any Given Muslim Nation (Iran for example) 4. WWII Germany 5. North Korea These are police states, and the millions their dictators have murdered are testament to the fact. Let us never again dare to compare the USA (the beacon of freedom in the world) to countries like the USSR, Nazi Germany, or China. New World Order This one is comical, pure comic genius. These are the people that secretly run the world. They can include politicians, celebrities, businessmen, etc. What it boils down to, is, if you don't think like them, then you are part of the NWO. I even saw a blog on how Hollywood puts the NWO's secret agenda in their films. Pure lunacy, read it, it's a good laugh. I think it's time to call on the old saying "When everyone's thinking alike, then somebody's not thinking". While the nuts would have you believe that they are trying to promote this, at the same time they classify those who don't think like them as part of the new world order or 'sheeple'. It's unreal to me that people like this living in the most lavish nation on earth are so blatantly ungrateful of what they have, and where they live. People afraid of their own shadows, and it shows by some of their theories. When you combine brat with paranoia, this is what is produced. Thank God that these people are NOT mainstream, but only a fringe of idiots. Try the test out for yourself, if you see the catch phrase, read more, you'll probably find that, sure enough, they don't know what they're talking about. UPDATE: Just what the doctor ordered: Peter Mehlmen at HuffPo. It didn't take long for him to point out that he didn't know what he was talking about. Asserting that Hitler at least meant well with his tyranny, not like that evil Bush. UPDATE: Cameron Diaz booed in Peru after showing up with a handbag with a stylish communist slogan on it (oh, the irony of using capitalism to sell communist propoganda). Diaz is a long time supporter of communism, because she doesn't know what communism is all about, and what it has produced in the past 100 years.
