And now for some news: Thanks to the work of Bob Cox of the Media Bloggers Association, I have been given press access to Thursday's Democratic presidential debate sponsored by PBS.
As a member of the press, I have full access to the media room which after the contest turns into the "spin room."
With that in mind, what types of questions would you like me to ask of the candidates or their representatives? What about of the media?
One other note: I will be posting my general debate commentary over at Ace of Spades HQ. My media postings will appear there and here as well.

Debate Questions
June 27, 2007 - 09:52 ET by EllisWyattI'm with you on that one, sarc. I'd add an additional question:
Assume Congress is controlled by your own party. Congress passes a bill that you firmly believe to be unconstitutional. Would you sign the bill and hope that the Supreme Court overturns it, or would you veto the bill?
By the way, I've decided to support Ron Paul in the GOP primary. I voted for him when he ran as a Libertarian in 1988, and I've followed his career ever since.

And did you see Cavuto's massively biased piece yesterday (the masthead here somehow managed not to notice it)? It came due to an offhand comment regarding some tax protestors, but once Cavuto found out he couldn't insert words in Paul's mouth he either rudely-interrupted or changed the subject. I think, because the masthead sure ain't gonna do it, that it's my responsibility to do NB's job on the issue. And for the record, I'll take my share of Exxon's NB donations in good beer, which I provide for myself. :)

June 27, 2007 - 10:14 ET by EllisWyattNo, didn't see the Cavuto piece. I've pretty much stopped watching broadcast news altogether, even Fox News. Why bother? The biased reporting will just annoy me.
I just love how the GOP leadership (and their supporters / shills) are getting so agitated over Dr. Paul's candidacy. That alone is reason enough to support him.
If you're not outraged at the media, you haven't been paying attention.

Question: In Jan. 2001 President Bush arrived in the White House in the middle of a historic economic reversal, set in motion by years of excess, corporate and accounting greed and fraud, and no one watching the shop. He was faced with millions of hard working Americans loosing their jobs, losing their life savings, and large bugets deficts caused by dissapearing tax revenues. A progressive economist, Dean Baker, said that the "financial leadership" in the last years of the Clinton administration was the "worst since Pres. Herbert Hoover." President Bush, in his first year, was faced with immediate massive federal deficits caused by the economic reversal that started well prior to his watch. Longer version -
Question: "In Jan. 2001 President Bush arrived in the White House in the middle of a historic economic reversal. Almost every economic indicator was heading south. Several years of excess, corporate and accounting greed and fraud, and venture capitalism gone a bit wacko had created a state of “irrational exuberance.” Thousands of American companies were closing their doors or being forced to downsize. The new President was faced with millions of hard working Americans loosing their jobs, their health insurance and their life savings. Dean Baker, a well-known progressive economist, said in March 2001 that "the nation's political leaders chose to ignore the stock market bubble" -- and "as a result, millions of families have seen their dreams of a secure retirement or their children's college education vanish,” and that “the financial leadership” in the last years of the Clinton administration was “the worst since Pres. Herbert Hoover.”
President Bush, in his first year, was faced with immediate massive federal deficits, caused by the economic reversal that started well prior to his watch. Almost all agreed, that tax cuts were needed to stimulate the economy - to blunt the ballooning economic catastrophe that was upon us. And then, after all of this, we were hit by the tragedy of 9/11 – which added considerable trauma to the economic slide. After a couple of quite challenging years, the slide ended and the economy reversed yet again. Now, most economists agree, that the US economy has been in full gear for 4 years running and record tax revenues have returned.
Do you agree with how Bush responded to the challenge and led? And/or, how would you have handled it differently?

June 26, 2007 - 16:53 ET by dscottOk, Matt, here's one to put them on the defensive:
As you are aware (or should be), Social Security in 2017 will no longer be able to pay all the retires their monthly payments from the payroll taxes currently being collected. At that time, the US Government will have to start redeeming the $4 trillion in bonds held by the SS trust fund. According to the most recent report, the SS trust fund will go bankrupt in 2042. How do you propose to raise enough revenue to pay the retirees?
a.) raise employer/employee payroll taxes to 20% to insure actuarial solvency.
b.) raise the federal income tax rates immediately to redeem the bonds held by SS trust fund (an average $115 Billion/year)
c.) call for a change in investment strategies making SS like any other pension fund which diversifies its investments to maximize portfolio as opposed to what it's doing now buying low interest US bonds.
d.) decouple the SS trust funds from the government budget and thus prohibiting politicians from misusing the funds to cover the annual budget deficit.
e.) establish private accounts to allow self directed investment stratagies to maximize their account holdings.
f.) form a commission to hide behind that will inevitably recommend raising taxes either or both the SS tax and the federal income tax.
g.) do nothing, pretend the problem doesn't exist, let the system go broke and let someone else take the blame.
h.) kill off everyone over 70 or deny them medical treatment so they die

Having said that, I would ask: First, with all the problems of our insolvent social security, how far are you willing to go to keep your hands out of the citizenry's pockets, and would you be willing to allow all Americans (legal Americans) to have the same retirement scheme that you, in the Congress enjoy?
And second: boxers or briefs?
Taking into account that this group has all the collective IQ of a lampshade, they will tap dance around the first question, but willingly answer the second.

Why have you, Mrs Clinton, never spoken on the brutality of treatment of women in Islamic countries? Honor killings? FGM? Children as young as six being recruited as suicide bombers? A child as young as twelve slicing off someone's head?
Why, Mrs Clinton, do you, a feminist, support covering for your husband and his dalliances and NOT the victims of his crimes? If you cannot stand up to him, how can we expect you to protect the country?
Obama, you have no experience to be CinC. Why should we elect someone who's strongest qualification is "community organizer", President?
Obama, you have never denied being Muslim yet you claim to be Christian, while recently insulting Christians. Do you consider yourself to be a Muslim?

Do you honestly believe, after all these years, we don't know you? All the books? All your quotes that point to a belief in Socialism and economic Marxism, such as "we are going to take things away from you"?
What is it that you think we do not know?

As president, you will be expected to answer reporters' questions, including hostile ones. By continuing to refuse to appear in a debate with questions coming from reporters on the Fox News Channel, are you not showing weakness that makes you appear unable to fulfill one of obligations of a president?
