Thursday night, for the second time in just over two weeks, George Stephanopoulos served as the anchor of ABC's World News with Charles Gibson. No explanation was offered for Gibson's absence. Just as on June 4, the announcer set up the newscast: “From ABC News headquarters, this is World News with Charles Gibson. Reporting tonight: George Stephanopoulos.”
My Monday, June 4 NewsBusters item noted that Stephanopoulos “has co-hosted Good Morning America on several occasions over the years,” but that “from what I can recall, this is the first time the long-time adviser and strategist for Bill Clinton, and Dick Gephardt before that, has anchored World News -- or World News Tonight as it was previously named.” TV Newser, widely read inside the networks, picked up my item and no one responded to correct my memory, so I presume Thursday became only the second time the liberal operative turned TV news host of Sunday's This Week has anchored the evening newscast. Check the earlier posting for video of the opening of the June 4 newscast.
Stephanopoulos' lead story Thursday night, June 21: “Tonight, a matter of life and death: For the first time rankings of which hospitals have the best survival rates. How does yours measure up?”

Kind of like the Clintoon's.
I do not get the point of this....this has been going on for years and years now.

June 21, 2007 - 21:38 ET by Lame CherryLet us see, CBS hired Hillary's bossom buddy to produce the news run by the visual woman in power through the Hillary 2008 presidential run.
Add that to Georgie making a permanent seat on ABC for free Hillary infonews.
Perhaps the olde serpent hisself Jimmy Carvell will be running NBC till 2008.
This is FCC violations pure and simple.

June 21, 2007 - 22:01 ET by Del DolemonteAnd on the cable side, and thus supposedly not regulated by the FCC, the Clintoon News Network, CNN, recently parted ways with their polling partner Gallup (the gold standard in public opinion polling since the 1930s) and gave the job to a polling firm run by (gasp!) Clinton supporters.
Actually, it may be the other way around-Gallup may have left CNN?

June 22, 2007 - 03:32 ET by sarcasmoI disagree. The gold standard of polling has always been the free marketplace, not annoying twerps who call me on the phone at suppertime. And what, you might ask, do I mean by "the free marketplace"? Well, I mean exactly what I said, which means "gambling." If you call an annoyed sarcasmo up when I'm trying to enjoy my food, do you REALLY believe you're gonna get "gold standard sarcasmo-real opinions" -- assuming I stay on the line long enough to help with your stupid poll despite the fact that you're planning NOT to pay me?? Get real. Ain't gonna happen. I want money for that kind of annoyance.
I have 0 loyalty to "Gallup" or "Roper." In fact, I have a history of posting foreigners' offshore gambling-odds to the internet since the mid-'90s in order to make fools of those companies and the media idiots who pay them too much to annoy me and make my phone ring when I want to eat. They're not perfect (only one poll counts in elections) but gambling sites tend to be more honest and faster to react to changes than media polls, which can be influenced by issues beyond telephone-annoyance, such as biased wording of questions they usually never let us see, for some strange reason.

June 21, 2007 - 21:57 ET by Del DolemonteI'd be willing to bet that George will be hosting again tomorrow night. Why? It's the end of the week, and it's summer.
Gibson probably has one of those "summer-take-one-or-two-days-off-at-end-of-week" deals in his contract, like O'Reilly.

When is Georgie going to star
June 21, 2007 - 23:25 ET by jdhawkWhen is Georgie going to start shaving?
Meanwhile, Georgie's lead story is just a bit off the mark. The fact is that there is no universally accepted way to enter patient data into a database and few doctors and hospitals bother to enter anything that is not required by government regulation to get paid. Senator Frist, then majority leader, attempted to get legislation passed that would righ this problem. The bill was put into committee last August, but didn't see the light of day because of the November election and its outcome.
If doctors and hospitals did keep better records, it would save lives just by ensuring that patients receive the right medicine at the right time in the right amount. Screw ups in this area alone kill thousands of patients a year.
Of course, if Iraq is any example, the liberals answer to this problem is to shut the hospitals down!
So, do you think that Georgie is going to his First Communion right after the show?

June 22, 2007 - 02:45 ET by Atomic CrusaderThese so called evening newz shows are ruthlessly silly. CBS puts Katie Couric in there and makes a big stink about it like its some kind of news in and of itself. Ridiculous. ABC just shifts 'em around, whatever. Oh ok, put George in the big seat since the whole endeavour is meaningless anyways. Its so cool how they tell their stories standing up nowadays, wow. Thanks to NB I can keep a distant eye on all of it, waiting for the end. And that'll be some real news for a change.
