Muslim foot baths

So, it seems that the ACLU is defending a school district which has decided to install foot baths for Muslim students on the basis of a Constitutional duty of the government to provide accomodations for religious practice to all religions.

Just want to know: Are there Bible on the shelves of the libraries in public school? How about holy water fonts inside the doorway? Or refraining from scheduling any extracurricular activities on a Saturday or Sunday? No pork on the school lunch menu? In fact, no food at all in the school lunchroom during Ramadan?

Should taxpayers' money be used to pay for such an accomodation? Doesn't that violate the "separation of church and state" and amount to forcing non-believers to support a particular religion?

What say you?

Good post QM. I agree with

Good post QM. I agree with you completely. I've never bought the "Separation of Church and State" argument at all, but what  is good for Christians is good for muslims. Not to mention, the whole foot bath thing sounds disgusting. I mean, who is going to care for these foot baths?

I think islam is a piece of sh-- religion anyway and I don't apoligize for this opinion. I've heard of people having to stumble over these idiots at airport restrooms as they are facing Mecca and praying. Do these people have no sense of themselves or their surroundings?

This political correctness crap is getting way out of hand. It is dangerous as it makes us weaker as a nation. Pc is becoming instutionalised to the point where it has seeped into our military.

I don't worry about offending people who are offensive. I can't think of a more selfish, narcissistic (sp?) bunch of people than muslims, unless of course it is our own liberal elite.

Evening Queen....

What say I.

I have been furious about his since I heard the report....then read about it.

We are heading for our own defeat within this country if we keep this PC up.

Not one red cent should be given for this...not one.

First thing my husband and I said were all of the examples the ACLU and their ilk have denied in our public schools....among other things.

Public schools should be supported by local tax-payers, the State and their own laws...not federally....not one red cent from all of us nation-wide collectively...the Dept. of Education is a leftist fiasco with an agenda...which so far they have accomplished.

This should be voted on as a referendum as far as I am concerned.

The enemy within hard at work....as usual...we are going to look the other way until it is too late.

Evening bigtimer.I couldn't

Evening bigtimer.

I couldn't agree more. The aclu is so full of it I can't stand it. No Bibles, no prayer, but they back this crap. Hypocrites all.

I also agree the states should pay for the education of their populations. All of the money we send as taxpayers to public schools and still, as the saying goes, Johnny can't read. He certainly hasn't been taught to think for himself.

As an aside, I recently went to the graduation of my wife's nephew. The school actually said the Pledge of Allegiance, including "under God" and said a Christian prayer, said our Lord and Saviour and everything. It is sad, but it kind of surprised me, given the culture these days.

Does anyone know if these foo

Does anyone know if these foot baths are going to be placed inside the school building? I'm thinking about the fact that Federally-mandated programs in Catholic schools must be conducted in trailers outside the school building.

The idea that schools must provide accomodation for religious rituals sounds like the Muslim religion is being considered a handicap.

I do not know for a fact...bu

I do not know for a fact...but the pictures they were showing last night in regards to this story was in fact in the bathroom, so I took it the foot-baths were going to be built in there....

They were showing the condition of the sinks pulled away from the walls ect by Muslims using them for their feet...

Now that I think about it though...who knows what really caused that, how many years that school had not been kept up....inner-city....money pilfered and not used elsewhere ect.

Just a thought....

You raise a good point though QM....

Excellent post QM. As to your

Excellent post QM. As to your question, no I am diametrically opposed to this entire concept. Allowing religious practices or icons in public places should be governed by common sense, as well as fairness to both other religions and the public in general. These foot baths are an infringement to others, unsightly to many, and quite possibly a health hazard to all. Not to mention completely violating the fairness standard, as mentioned by other posters in this thread.

As for the ACLU, while I seriously disagree with them on most issues, I would have an iota more respect for them if they applied their perception of violations to civil liberties evenly across the board, instead of selectively, as in basing their desire to"right wrongs" exclusively on race or religion. According to the principles on which this nation was founded, don't ALL races and religions have THE SAME rights? And why is it never mentioned how much money the ACLU makes "defending" others?

If a Christian cross infringes on a Muslim's rights, then doesn't a foot bath (designed and promoted specifically as a religious practice) also violate a Christian's, or better yet, a Jew's rights?

Why is racism reserved exclusively for whites? Why can blacks deride other races as well as their own with a free pass? Why are there black colleges, black television, black scholarships, when anything identical except white instead of black is racist? Why is a white person not hiring a black person based on race "discrimination", but a black person doing the same is "reverse-discrimination"? Isn't discrimination just discrimination? Where does the "reverse" come from?

Why are Americans opposed to free immigration, legalization of illegals, and open borders labeled as anti-Mexican? Aren't there many other nationalities represented by those illegally in this country? And what about the rights of natural born and naturalized Americans?

Where does it say, in ANY founding document, that we have the right to not be offended? What Amendment to the Constitution protects our sensitivity to perceived slights?

This isn't PC. This is a foot in the door to the new socialized American culture. And unless everyone, black, white, yellow, red, pink with purple polka-dots, stands against it, all will suffer in the very near future. Has no one else seen, time and again, how the PC crowd turns on it's poster children when their utility to the cause has ended?

The Closed Mind Erects Strong Barriers

If I'm a particularly devout

If I'm a particularly devout Catholic and want my children to attend Mass daily, I would send them to a Catholic school. I hardly expect that the ACLU would defend my right to allow my children to begin their school day late or leave in the middle of class to attend Mass. As far as I know, school districts do not honor the Catholic holy days by allowing Catholic children to take the day off as they are permitted in a Catholic school. I could be wrong on this. Would appreciate any input from someone who has experience in this matter. I believe that there are some school districts which allow for Jewish children to be absent from school for certain holy days. I'm not saying that the Jewish children get preferential treatment. I've just not heard of school districts where Catholic children are permitted to be absent on their holy days. As far as I know, this could be the case in some school districts. Of course, for the Catholic children it's a matter of attending Mass. This is the most important aspect of these holy days. And most Catholic churches have Mass later in the day to accomodate those who are in school or at work. It's a bit different for Muslims and Jews.

Is this about the college in MN?  I did not see a link, so I want to be sure.

I would prefer we focus on edjucating Muslims to wash their hands first, we can worry about their feet later.

amber: There are two cases that are currently well-known. One at a Minnesota community college and one at the Univ. of Michigan/Dearbornistan. Looks like I may have made an error in my original article. However, I believe I've heard a news story about a similar accomodation at a public high school. I'll try to find further information.

QM,

I say give the Muslims an old hose out behind the building.

If and when they finally rise up in mass opposition to the actions of the more radical elements of their "religion," then perhaps we may be willing to discuss other options.

Not before.

And yes, the Anti Christian Losers Union is displaying more than just their usual anti-Christian bias here.
