The request was removed from the website after it sparked furious protests that the corporation was endangering the lives of British servicemen and women.
But according to accounts last night, a story on a major operation by US and Iraqi troops against al-Qa'eda somewhere north of Baghdad contained an extraordinary request for information about the movement of troops.
Last night the BBC confirmed the wording of the request was: "Are you in Iraq? Have you seen any troop movements? If you have any information you would like to share with the BBC, you can do so using the form below."
The BBC confirmed last night that this form of words had appeared on the website from "late morning" until early afternoon.
"It was down by 2pm," The Daily Telegraph was told.
A spokesman was unable to offer a detailed explanation of why anyone at the BBC should be seeking such information or whether any details on troop movements had been received.
He refused to identify who put the message up but said that "the journalist" responsible had been reminded that "this is not a form of words we would use."

June 21, 2007 - 04:41 ET by liberal_bug_zapperIf there was any need for evidence that the world wide left are the enemy of freedom, this should be one big glaring example. These people are our enemies and should be dealt with accordingly.
The biggest problem I see with the worldwide left is that they are growing bolder with every move they make against the US. If we do not teach them a lesson soon, they will be so emboldened that they’ll begin to pay for the killing of American soldiers under the guise of the need to be unbias and present all sides and they'll provide an FTP site with the words: "Here is a location where you can upload videos or pictures of American or British servicemen or women being killed."

Treason!
June 21, 2007 - 07:05 ET by OiznopThe BBC should be shut down and spanked by the British Government for this. Can you imagine if this were done during WW2? Churchill would go down to Bush House or Broadcasting House and rip the place apart with his bare hands! It's fairly obvious what side of the war the world media is on (with a few acceptions). They really are the enemy.

I do not know how many tax dollars go to this anti-american outfit for its broadcasting on our public channels, but it is time to call a halt to it. I have a very dear young man on the ground in Iraq and are praying for his safe return. His Brother was in Fallujah for 3 tours and then lost his life in a car accident while home.
Dump tv, that is the only message they will hear-right in the pocket book. We pulled the plug months ago, have netflix for entertainment, tho cBS comes in with the ears. That is bad enough, and they are so predictable! No wonder people are turning them off. More should, they would change their tune in a heartbeat-or claim it was a rightwing........

June 21, 2007 - 08:58 ET by jdhawkThe only way to "hurt" the BBC here in the US is to call and/or write to your local publicly funded radio or tv station, which have national contracts to broadcast the BBC "news." Also, write your representatives that your tax dollars are being used to indirectly support treason on the part of the BBC.

Can't address a Juneteenth mob murder. Too dicey
Can't talk about FOX news deciding to air the Islam vs Islamist video - Everybody knows Islam is a religion of peace.
Could you please start a thread about a woman in Canton Ohio who is missing? I mean, this is the only missing/murder case in the whole country.
A billionnaire is not running for President. And the news media just don't believe him. Imagine that. BTW he's also decided to quit the Human party.

June 21, 2007 - 10:24 ET by pmohbuckwhy this isn't huge news baffles me ... what is the point about broadcasting troop movements other than helping the enemy kill our own soldiers? in the last "just" war (WWII) the journalist would have likely been bound to a post, blind-folded and shot to death.
