UPDATE 6-20; Joe cites NewsBusters: At 6:07 am EDT on June 20, Joe Scarborough cited NewsBusters as the blog that had criticized Mika Brzezinski as a snob for her comments about Rosie. He added that yesterday the blog had called Mika on her "half-a--ed" apology.
View video here of Joe discussing NB's criticism of Mika.
Yesterday, in Mika's Snobby Sneer, we reported on the elitist swipe that Mika Brzezinski took at Rosie O'Donnell. The MSNBC newsreader had poo-poohed the idea of the erstwhile "View" co-host taking over "The Price is Right" from the retiring Bob Barker. Said Brzezinski: "The problem is she's going to look like the people who run down the aisle all excited."
We had also observed that a running theme of the banter between Mika and "Morning Joe" host Joe Scarborough is the latter's teasing of the former over her privileged upbringing as the daughter of Zbigniew Brzezinski, Jimmy Carter's former National Security Advisor.
So how did Joe open this morning's show at 6 am EDT?
MSNBC HOST JOE SCARBOROUGH: You know, you hang out with the elites, day in and . . . Your mother raised you right yet you go around making fun. I looked at the blogs yesterday, I read the blogs all the time. This engendered an inexplicable laughing jag in Mika.
MSNBC'S MIKA BRZEZINSKI: I can't.
SCARBOROUGH: Yeah, you should. They kind of went after you yesterday.Story Continues Below Ad ↓
BRZEZINSKI: What did I do?
SCARBOROUGH: . . . I'm telling you, the bloggers, they're enraged, because you mocked Rosie O'Donnell, and said Rosie couldn't host the show because Rosie would look like all the people running down the aisle when Rosie yelled "come on down!"
SCARBOROUGH: You're laughing. You're laughing now. And they called you a snob.More laughter from Mika.
BRZEZINSKI: I'm a snob?
SCARBOROUGH: They called you a snob.
BRZEZINSKI: I'm sorry. I guess that was inappropriate. I'm sorry.
SCARBOROUGH: You don't believe that, any more than I believe my apology to Amy Robach.Contact Mark at mark@gunhill.net
BRZEZINSKI: Come on, it was a little funny.

Considering the Rosie hatred that's spit out on this blog daily, I find it strange that you're now offended by what Mika had to say. Have you read the comments about Rosie on this blog?
Why the defense now?

June 19, 2007 - 06:34 ET by allanfMika can be as snobby as she wants. In fact, I find her distaste for Rosie O'Donnell endearing. You see perhaps I'm a bit snooty too. I have real concenrs about Mika's lineage.

June 19, 2007 - 06:37 ET by LeonI agree allan.
Rosie is a jerk on the regular on national tv. If you're going to say hurtful outrageous and offensive things, be ready to get some heat back. That's the price you pay for being loud and obnoxious.

June 19, 2007 - 06:37 ET by sarcasmoHe's said it's not bias but elitism, but I think this one's not worth all that much NB time, too. I mean, look at the new doggie-toy we just found...

June 19, 2007 - 06:38 ET by Mark FinkelsteinMy beef with Rosie is not about her looks but her views, such as her 9-11 conspiracy lunacy or her suggestion that American troops are the real terrorists in Iraq. I think it's noteworthy that an MSMer like Mika would engage in such elitist "lookism."

June 19, 2007 - 06:42 ET by LeonNow maybe I'm just missing something but it doesn't seem all that elitist to me. In fact, your reaction to her comment seems to what's elitist. Through you're reaction you've inherently assumed that people that appear on the price is right are a lower class of society and then, you interpreted Mika's comments within this context.
You assumed Mika was implying Rosie was low class because you yourself view people on the Price is Right as low class.
That's how I read it at least.

June 19, 2007 - 11:27 ET by TeamcheeserMaybe I'm wrong, but I think the elitism stems from the comparison by Mika of Rosie to those folks running down the aisle. She makes it sound like the contestants on the show are pathetic or something.
It has nothing to do with Rosie's views, which are justifiably attacked on this here site.
Mika
June 19, 2007 - 10:30 ET by CellaEqually offensive to me was Mika's giggling and laughing when Joe mentioned Brit Hume this morning. Brit Hume, one of the best journalists of our time, was ridiculed and snickered at (pardon my syntax) by this nobody.
MSNBC needs to get rid of this news reader-without-a-clue. She is so puffed up and self-aggrandizing that I can't stay but a few minutes on that show.
According to the number of viewers, I am happy to note that Morning Joe is on life support.
