Scarborough Crew Protests 'Pole' Remarks Taken Out of Context

An update to my earlier post that I figured would do just as well as a fresh item.

USA Today's "On Politics" blog, "TV Newser," and The New Republic's "The Plank" contain explanations from Joe Scarborough's people of how they believe the Friday "Morning Joe" banter between the MSNBC host and guest Craig Crawford about potential GOP presidential candidate Fred Thompson's wife was taken out of context.

Noted USA Today's Mark Memmott:

A spokesman for the news network said this afternoon, though, that the
comment has been taken out of context and that it is "irresponsible" to
suggest Scarborough was employing sexual innuendo. "Works the pole"
could have been a reference to poles that some strippers use in their
acts. MSNBC says it was a reference to an exercise routine that a
growing number of women are performing.

Even so, it still lends a "lecherous reference" to Mrs. Thompson, conservative blogger Ed Morrissey told the national newspaper.

OH! Well then, I could go to any MSNBC party, walk right up to the various women attending and say, "Wow, you've really lost weight.  All those afternoons spent workin' the pole must have really paid off, huh?"

Working the Pole

I certainly wouldn't make a comment like that about any famous Democrat's wife.  But then, again, I don't know what Vince Foster's ethnicity was.

working the "polls"

Scarburrow needs to be worried more about the "polls" that Fred is going to be working in a few weeks, and less about his overt jealousy regarding another man's beautiful wife.

Joe, I think flowers and an accompanying written apology to Mrs. AND Mr. Fred Thompson are in order. A gentleman would respond such. Likely, you will not.

Actually, that's where I thou

Actually, that's where I thought they'd go in their cover up of the gaff. "No, I meant p-o-l-l, as in, she's going to sit out at a little table at the election site and tell people to vote for Fred. Honest, that's what I meant. Yeah."

Disgustingly inappropriate,

Disgustingly inappropriate, disrespectful, and glaringly sexist on Scarborough's part - completely and very laughably disingenuous on MSNBC's part. Malarkey. A giant steaming, smelly pile of malarkey. And everyone knows it. Exercise routine my "growing number" of Aunt Fannies.

Check out the video at "Hot Air", watch Scarborough's face, and see if you think he's talking about an exercise routine. And listening to Crawford on the other end of the phone, you can tell HE didn't think Joe was talking about exercise.

Scarborough Comment

PS: Taken out of context...the universal fall-back position. Let's see, the context was that Thompson's wife is a babe, Crawford replies that that's what you get in Hollywood....a wife that's a babe. Yup, Joe, that certainly shows that you didn't mean it the way it sounded.

Classic case of managing the

Classic case of managing the problem and not fixing it.  Just apologize Joe. The smirk on your face when you said it tells the story buddy. Own up to it.

Hmmm...

Has anyone noticed when a liberal puts their foot in their mouth, the comment is 'always taken out of context'? Then they turn around and accuse conservatives of being 'irresponsible' for misinterpreting what they said!

Shades of Don Imus - only Imus was fired - "Morning Joe" still has his job!

More left-coast, bleeding-heart, 'do as we say, not as we do' hypocritical liberalism!

Never dance on an empty stomach unless it's a liberal.

macaca moment

I'll cut him some slack, out of principle.

I've always been uneasy at how far leftists have succeeded in establishing a really pernicious doctrine of text intpretation, whereby the meaning of a statement doesn't lie in the intention of the speaker, nor even in the external, objective reference, but exclusively in the mushy subjectivity of the interpreter.

The left has sold popular culture a sort of psychological snake oil whereby all of us get to interpret a text however we want, but the real meaning of a text is determined by its political utility, by its implications for class struggle, not by its objective meaning.

This is Scarborough's macaca moment.

macaca vs articulate

My interpretation of the 'articulate' comment by Joe Biden was that he was commending Obama for his ability to 'act White'

Yeah, "working a pole&qu

Yeah, "working a pole" was the first thing that would have popped into my head when needing to describe an exercise to stay fit. Uh, nice try, Joe. I guess your second choice would've been "working the Stair Master. You would've been better off explaining that you meant Mrs. Thompson employed a Central European...

Scarborough is a fallen hero,

Scarborough is a fallen hero, a disgraced former "somebody". He is the main character in almost every Springsteen song, who can't seem to funnel the entitlements into his own pockets and therefore becomes disillusioned, angry, and just plain mean.

He angers me more than Matthews and Olbermann combined, because deep down inside you KNOW Scarborough doesn't believe the stuff he says. He knows he's a sellout, a puppet, a zombie, and the worst kind of Loser there is.

Embarrassing, Joe.  Have you

Embarrassing, Joe.  Have you not learned from recent history that coverups only make things worse?  That's usually true in the short-term, though Bryant "Expletive Idiot" Gumbel has shown us that sometimes it takes awhile for the truth to be revealed.

Speaking of which, Joe, when's the last time you spoke with the family of Lori Klausutis?
