Another Downside to Socialized Medicine

Socialized Medicine is a bad deal. Under universal healthcare, the government makes decisions for the patient or makes rules and conditions the patient must meet or healthcare is not given or certain procedures are refused. As time goes on more rules and conditions spring up as the government trys to cut costs.

Here's an article from the UK's Daily Mail illustrating my point. Smokers Told to Quit or Surgery Will Be Refused http://www.dailymail...

Now, I am not a smoker so why should I be worried or even bothered? If the government can make rules against smokers, then they can conceivably make rules that refuse healthcare services to people that don't eat the daily recommended servings of vegetables or people that don't get 20-40 minutes of aerobic exercise at least three times a week. If we live in a free society where people are allowed to make poor health decisions (as we all tend to do to varying degrees), we cannot have a universal healthcare system because it stifles our rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Healthcare is not a right and should not be viewed as such, it is a priviledge.

"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." --Thomas Jefferson

Dividing line

One of the ways that I divide people is into groups that feel that they have a right to something and those that feel that they should earn it.

I know several people that own a boat, a truck, other recreational vehicles and a big house with a swimming pool that do not have medical insurance. They say that it cost too much and that the government should provide it for them.

Free to Choose

That's their choice not to have medical insurance. Personally, I would like to be able to choose what care I receive and not be forced into government sponsored medicine. Free to Choose!

If conservatives are RIGHT, then liberals must be WRONG.
