Cindy Sheehan Resigns as ‘Face’ of the American Antiwar Movement

Well, sports fans, at roughly the same time I was putting together my article concerning the media ignoring Cindy Sheehan’s departure from the Democrat Party, the antiwar heroine was expressing similar sentiments at Daily Kos.

In a piece entitled “Good Riddance Attention Whore,” Sheehan literally tore apart those who used to fawn over her so adoringly (h/t Charles at LGF).

After a brief introduction, Cindy shared feelings about her role as an antiwar spokesperson that many on the right have been expressing for almost two years (emphasis added throughout):

The first conclusion is that I was the darling of the so-called left as long as I limited my protests to George Bush and the Republican Party. Of course, I was slandered and libeled by the right as a "tool" of the Democratic Party. This label was to marginalize me and my message. How could a woman have an original thought, or be working outside of our "two-party" system?

However, when I started to hold the Democratic Party to the same standards that I held the Republican Party, support for my cause started to erode and the "left" started labeling me with the same slurs that the right used. I guess no one paid attention to me when I said that the issue of peace and people dying for no reason is not a matter of "right or left", but "right and wrong."

Fantastic. Sheehan concluded:

This is my resignation letter as the "face" of the American anti-war movement. This is not my "Checkers" moment, because I will never give up trying to help people in the world who are harmed by the empire of the good old US of A, but I am finished working in, or outside of this system. This system forcefully resists being helped and eats up the people who try to help it. I am getting out before it totally consumes me or anymore people that I love and the rest of my resources.

Good-bye America ...you are not the country that I love and I finally realized no matter how much I sacrifice, I can’t make you be that country unless you want it.

It’s up to you now.

Regardless, as Charles Johnson concluded in his piece about her resignation, "On this Memorial Day, we honor Casey Sheehan’s sacrifice."

Now, by chance, if I find myself at a Democrat(ic) function surrounded by the typical moonbats that frequent such spectacles, what exactly am I permitted to say?

It would now appear that "attention whore" is acceptable if used for a Dem defector but not for a Dem ex-CIA agent.

But what if I added "nappy headed" attention whore? Or how about attention "faggot" (in case Edwards is there)? Or how about the all-inclusive, "Nappy headed attention whore faggot"? She's been so busy and never had enough time to herself since her son Casey was killed, that she can't possibly have fully grieved and healed yet. She's been almost constantly surrounded by whackos telling her that she needs to blame someone for her son's death.

Now, perhaps she can take some quiet time away from all the psycho-phants and clear her head. Perhaps she will realize that whatever the macro and political reasons that troops were in Iraq, Casey was doing his job, his duty and his honor when he was killed. That is to be respected, honored and cherished by those who loved him. Cindy has never had enough time to realize this apparently because she was always being used to bad mouth the President and the war in general.

I read the complete text of Sheehan’s swan song and I must admit I was impressed by it. She does not come across as a wide-eyed, America hating anarchist’s which are the backbone of the so-called ‘peace movement’.

Upper-most was the fact that it took her 2 years before she realized that she was being used by a “movement that often puts personal egos above peace and human life”.

They wined and dined her and sent her all over the world to be seen rubbing elbows with various dictators, but as soon as they felt she was no longer useful, they unceremoniously spit her out like a bad chaw of tobacco.

The ‘peace movement’ is a misnomer. A more appropriate name would be the ‘anarchist movement’.

The ‘anarchist movement’, for years, has used the Democrat party as a front group for their anti-everything causes because they found it easy to co-opt them by dangling dollar bills in front of their noses.

Anarchists could care less about peace. Peace is anathema to them. The more the pot is boiling the better they like it. They are users and usurpers.

Their so-called ‘peace movement’ is just a means to an end - the total destruction of America and all it stands for.

I believe, in the end, Sheehan realized that she made a mistake by getting into the movement, because when all was said and done, they neither respected her or her son.

You are quite correct. I liked both of her letters. She showed a lot more character and spine than most of the netroots, including their leader Markos. Of course, she's had more at stake than just rhetoric, wouldn't you agree?

She lives in Vacaville, which is only about 45 miles from me. I'd love to interview her, and see how she's really feeling about this experience. I might send her a note, and see if she's interested in talking to a conservative about all this.

This whole "resignation letter" reads like a child's "You'll be sorry" decree. If she ever was the 'face' of the anti-war movement, that face disappeared long ago.

It's too bad that good 'ol Cindy did not figure this out years ago. When you are in the public eye such as she was, you will be used only for as long as cable news needs you to make money.
