Google Ignores Memorial Day…Again!

Well, citizens, America’s leading search engine, and one of the most powerful forces on the Internet, has once again ignored Memorial Day.

As NewsBusters reported last year:

I’m sure most Googlers are extremely aware of how Google will dress up its logo at its web search or news pages in honor of holidays or special occasions…Yet, if you go to Google’s home page here, or its news page here, you will see nothing commemorating today’s national holiday.

One might have thought that after last year’s scrutiny, Google might have capitulated. Not so.

Yet, since last Memorial Day, Google has recognized the following:

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

The birthday of Norwegian painter Edvard Munch was commemorated on December 12, 2006, with the image in the top right-hand corner.

The start of the World Cup – June 9, 2006...

And, as NewsBusters reported, the following global warming reference on Earth Day – April 22, 2007...

Furthermore, if you go back through the Google logo archives, you'll find that, although it has over the years commemorated Shichi-go-san being celebrated in Japan, Bastille Day in France, the Persian New Year, Louis Braille’s birthday and Korean Liberation Day, it appears that Google has never dressed up its logo for Memorial Day.

Why? Don't the folks at Google think it's important to recognize those that have died for their freedom and helped make them some of the weathiest people on the planet?

After last year's flap about the same thing, there can be no doubt that they made a conscious decision NOT to take note of Memorial Day with a modified logo. I can imagine the subject coming up in a meeting and the whole conference room collapsing into fits of laughter at the thought of dissing the US Armed Forces.

Google sucks

The alternate reality keeps on rolling.

My wife and I were just discussing how much the oil companies make on a gallon of gas vs. how much the Government makes on a gallon of gas (via taxation), and the "stones"/audacity required for US Senators and Congressmen to publicly proclaim gouging by oil companies. Those hypocrites and blowhards, who do the true gouging, will stand there and publicly proclaim they believe the oil companies are gouging us, all the while it is they who do the true gouging. And most of the ignoramous public FALLS for it. I just want to give all of the fools who fall for this nonsense a big slap upside the head while shouting "SNAP OUT OF IT!"

And here way have another perfect display of people going about their every day lives in an alternative reality. These Google a**holes are billionaires. And the only reason they are billionaires is because they were fortunate enough to be born in this great country, where the education, personal freedom, financial markets, and their great idea, all came together and made them rich beyond their wildest dreams.

And instead of being thankful to all of the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice to preserve their freedoms and this great nation, those A**HOLES hold them in disdain.

I say "**CK THEM!". Stop using their site/services. Pick any other search engine and use it. If you have a gmail account, sign up for as many mailing lists as you can (using your gmail address), then walk away from it and never look back.

As far as using a different search engine, I recommend Dogpile. There is a Firefox plugin that installs it in the blink of an eye. Go here -

or here to search for a different search engine plugin -

Show your appreciation for all of those who made the ultimate sacrifice. And tell Google to "stick it" on this Memorial Day.

Great idea, Cloudfish. I'm going to switch to Dogpile too. I don't care if Google is embedded in the toolbar. I'll make a toolbar bookmark for Dogpile and put that up there.

I'll bet they also celebrated Cinco de Mayo! That's one that particularly frosts me.......

If you're using Firefox (and

If you're using Firefox (and most/all of you should-be, IMO) it's really simple to make a non-google search engine your personal default by clicking on the current (usually google) search engine icon on the upper right and then clicking "manage search engines." I recall saying something about this last time, but it appears those comments evaporated in the great move. It's really odd that Google would do this, from a "don't be evil" standpoint...

Apache,I'm right there with y

Apache,

I'm right there with you.

We're fighting a war against radical Islam and against a cancer of prosperity. People who want to pretend like this is no big deal are the people who've known nothing about fighting for civil rights or for our freedoms.

This constant domestic disrespect for all things American (especially our military) has a corrosive affect on the psyche of our country, and I'm wondering just what it will take for people to gain an understanding of just how fragile and special America is.

I can tell that you understand this, and I want you to know that I do my best every day to let others know just how much our fellow Americans have sacrificed in the name of the United States, just so people like the Ivy League silver spoon elitists can create an internet company and become billionaires.  It makes me sick to my stomach to know that there are people like this (along with most musicians and actors) who have made fortunes to last 1,000 lifetimes, but will openly denigrate the society that nutured their idea/talent/voice.

None of us would be here today if it weren't for the strength, courage and patriotism of those who came before us, and the minute we lose sight of that, we jeopardize our future, and embolden our enemies.

"We're fighting a war

"We're fighting a war against radical Islam and against a cancer of prosperity."

And even if they don't support the current war what about paying homage to the ill-equipped, barely trained rag-tag bunch of farmers (that mostly made up the Continental Army) that stood up to King George III and the most powerful army and navy in the world?

Or in 1812, when our still fledgling nation stood up to Britian's bullying and subversion.

Or in the 1860's the American Civil War.

Or the Spanish-American War.

Or the Filipino-American War.

Or WWI, WWII, the Korean War, the Viet Nam War, or the Gulf War.

And don't forget all the troops that served in "peacetime" but still maintained their readiness to protect freedom and liberty.

All told, millions of American men and women have served in the armed forces. Some have seen the horrors of combat, some have been fortunate to not. All have made sacrifices to give birth to this free nation or to help it continue in liberty and freedom. From the teen-aged farm boy volunteers in the American Revolution to the pilot of the Enola Gay in August 1945, to Medal of Honor recipient (post humously) Marine Corporal Jason Dunham in 2004, all of them have been heroes in one way or another deserving of our gratitude and our thoughts and prayers.

Even if the top dogs at Google don't agree with the current war, it is no reason to ingore the sacrifices that enabled their success.

Changing my search engine now. I'll give Dogpile a try.

A vast majority of those code

A vast majority of those coders working at Google are liberals and consequently, they think they are smart and everyone else is stupid... especially those idiot conservatives who think that glorifying the imperialist evil that is the USA a good thing.

In short, they are the epitome of liberal intellectual elitists.

Oh, did I mention that they love Europe as it is enlightened and hate the US? Well, if not, consider this my mention.

Oh, and to our brave men and women who have served, and still serve.... the true Americans stand with you, not only in spirit, but in word, work and deed.

I wish all of those stinkin

I wish all of those stinking billionaires, like the Google people and Soros, who have such disdain for this great nation, and all of the stinking rich, whiney, childish, spoiled brat Hollywood types would just pack up and leave. I truly do. If they hate this country so much, then just shut up and leave. And leave the rest of us, who love this country and all thankful for it, alone.

Just get out and leave the rest of us alone. And don't let the door hit you in a*s on the way out!!!!!!!!!!!

Al Gore is on the board of Google and owns a bunch of stock. It's also why he now has millions of dollars and how he could afford to bank roll his propaganda film. Who knows, maybe the commies (winks at Bal) at Google also gave money to Al's propaganda piece.

I have solved the problem.

I simply do not use Google anymore. With their censoring the news for China, even in the US, and their snubbing of any US patriotic holiday, they have shown that they are not to be trusted.

I use Ask.com mostly.

You are an a*s. You are completely incapable of appreciating what you have. Consequently, you are incapable of showing any sort of appreciation to those who sacrificed their lives to provide you with that you have. To you, an ungrateful sack of feces, it seems like a trivial thing. But those of us who know better appreciate it.

You need to get out more. Perhaps a year in Darfur or China would be good for you. Help give you a new perspective on things.

But the short of it is the same as I posted. He takes for granted what he has. He simply doesn't know any better. Consequently, he is incapable of appreciating how truly lucky he is. Therefore, he can't appreciate those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice to give him (or her) what he/she already has. I just want to slap him/her upside the head.

But I know that will never happen. So perhaps a better solution would be for him/her to live abroad for a couple of years so that he/she can gain a better appreciation of what they already have. If he/she can do that, then perhaps he/she will be more grateful for it and more grateful for those that paid the ultimate sacrifice for him/her.

bal, their communist roots go clear to the bone.

bal,

These Google guys willingly turned over a man to the Chicoms in order to score points with the communist government of that sad land. Afterward, all they could (lamely) say was that it was probably a "bad business decision" on their part. Never mind the poor bastard who got thrown into a Chinese prison. In their mindless duplicity they helped a despotic, inhuman government rob a fellow human being of his freedom. It doesn't get more hideous than that. I don't know how these two sleep at night.

Now these same Google guys want to collect even more personal info on those who use their search engine.

Are you not the least bit concerned as to why these two confirmed America haters are doing this?

Very very interesting Dave, even though they say they will not really be looking into the privacy issue, just the merger, if this doesn't succeed, it will be a good thing, on the other hand, Microsoft wanted DoubleClick I think it was too....

How I look at it anymore, is they have the information we put out here every single day, one way or the other, if they are big enough to get it.

That was one important reason I weighed about getting a computer and learning to use it was because of privacy issues...but heck, they know everything about you via mail using info of what you subscribe to ect...our SS#'s were the biggest flood-gate of loss of privacy a long time ago as far as I am concerned. and I am not going to forget the IRS either....not going to change now...no matter who buys what IMO.
