I’m not sure which is worse: using the Greensburg, Kansas, tornado disaster from last month to bash President Bush and the war in Iraq, or using it to further global warming alarmism.
Regardless of the answer, one of soon-to-be-Dr. Al Gore’s primary sycophants, Laurie David, actually wrote an article for the Huffington Post Sunday tying the devastation to this small town to climate change and green principles.
I kid you not.
In a piece entitled “Putting the Green in Greensburg,” David sickeningly used a natural disaster to further her goal of destroying the American economy in the name of protecting the environment (emphasis added throughout, h/t NBer Sick-n-Tired):
While no one questions whether Greensburg should be rebuilt, everyone should take a moment to question how.
I mean, think about it. If we could start over, what would we do differently? Would we take into consideration the cost of global warming in the shape of more and more extreme weather events? Would we make our cities and towns more sustainable? Would we make our homes and businesses more energy efficient so that every homeowner pays less on their bills every month? Would we make commutes as short as possible so that people can walk or bike if they choose? What would we do if we had the opportunity to do it all over?
[…]
It is time to build our communities in greener ways that enhance our lifestyle and help combat global warming. Let's pull out all the stops. Let's make Greensburg Exhibit A of what we all know our future must look like.
Just a question here, Laurie, as you’re advancing this agenda: do the residents of this town have a say in this? Or, because of how much more you know about what is in their interests than they do, should their views in how to rebuild their town be considered irrelevant?
Honestly, folks, the level of arrogance and pomposity on display here is truly sick-making.

Great idea, Miles, but it will probably never happen. Apparently, the only people who need fear the Bush Justice Department are other republicans. Wayward democrats such as Al need not be concerned.
The only thing I can see that might just subject the future "Dr." Gore to any real scrutiny on his Global Warming Empire business dealings might be if he were to jump into the presidential race and become a demonstrable threat to Frau Hilde-beast.
The only problem here is that even the Clintonistas would be reluctant to do anything that might bring harm to the cause of Global Warming. After all, the left needs to maintain this farce for other purposes down the road.

May 21, 2007 - 12:39 ET by Dave in TexasI'm sure the residents of Greensburg are just thrilled that their town was completely destroyed, because now they can rebuild in a way that makes Laurie David happy. I do hope that a cat 5 comes and levels Houston this summer so that we can rebuild and make her happy too.
"Would we make commutes as short as possible so that people can walk or bike if they choose?"
Somebody can correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Greensburg a farming community, and kind of small? I'm sure their "commutes" were already pretty short to begin with.
Dave In Texas
May 21, 2007 - 13:16 ET by SportPoliticsDave in Texas, wasn't it the libs who decided that "green open spaces" were a must for cities ? I thought it was they who put all the money into - and have forced the "wide open spaces" and green areas , and "no crowding" into the layout of California.....
Of course I quite understand, that a few years later- the very same side of libs came out and said " urban sprawl is a terrible disaster", and cried "commute times are destroying the middle class with gas prices and the earth with pollution."
So, after they demanded the wide open spaces everywhere, they cried the wide open spaces are wasteful....
The only thing that really fits is bicycles. On that I believe they have been consistent. My mind goes to China and those bicycling populaces, those little bicycle carts where the primping and elite libs can pay some "kind person" to pedal them around while they sit on the chariot seat. Marry that with "san Fran" nanny public rail cars or open ferry buses...
One can be certain large dogs and various genetically altered downsized pack animals would soon be experimented with and used to "tow around the elite libbers" -- and then of course their animal rights activist groups would raise holy heck, and they would produce whole police departments and animal control officers to incarcerate any offenders so the lib riders would " know" the animals were very happy with haoppy lives and being taken well care of, and they'ed be able to "coo" and "ohh" and "ahh" when the husky or doberman trotted them around carbon neutral latte and small "ma and pa bagel shops" and "pravda" handbag stores in lib city.
I'm not sure if they would allow their bicycle helmet laws to apply to their chariot rides. After all they are adults in their own controlled green experiment.
The "pedaller" would never be their servant, though, nor their slave, no matter what "color"... in fact it could be a new whine for them that ethnic minorities do most of the pedalling -- because "Americans" ( which somehow are never ethnic minorities) are unwilling to do it. ( when in fact, THEY really are the ones who would never do it- they would never "pedal around their master" ... they "are the masters" !!! }

May 21, 2007 - 12:59 ET by SouthJersey1953If she really wants to make a point of Greensburg, why don't Lauri and Al pay for the reconstruction? I think the residents would be fine with those two footing the bill for building energy efficient and environmental friendly houses. Maybe they could use their carbon credits to rebuild.
Of course, they (the super-rich hypocrits) wouldn't do that.

May 21, 2007 - 12:59 ET by Gary HallOn the other hand, Noel. Take a good look at that picture of Laurie David. She is quite well put together. Seriously now, she has a really nice figure. Maybe we ought to be looking at, er.. listening to what she has to say. With a nice figure like that, and that warm smile, has she not met the qualifications for being an expert on Climate.
But then again, why is she standing next to a wax statue? Is Gore dead? Doesn't look like the mortician (pasty being the understatement of the day) did quality work here.
Seriously, from where Gore stands - considering that they're on the same page, and she's looking pretty good - would not that be enough to put just a little bit of life in him?

It is like I mentioned to Noel, if she was so concerned about Greensburg, she would quietly board her gulf stream, put on her boots, grab a hammer and a shovel and sweat it out with us, helping rebuild. That of course that would never happen, cause as you said, they never ever practice what they preach. Hollow and empty promises.

Well Ms. David, if you want to pull out all of the stops send your money to Greensburg directly---they are going to need it in light of the fact that Sebelius and the state of Kansas are only allotting $5 million dollars for clean up and rebuiling.
Self righteous, sanctimonious, pompous......(you fill in the blank here). Man, I can't stand her.

May 21, 2007 - 14:21 ET by MikeBSnT, the home owners and business owners should have, and probably did have, property insurance. This is the source, and properly so, of most of the money to rebuild this town. The State of Kansas should kick in money to rebuild government structures, such as their water tower, their sewage treatment plant, their water purification plant, their library, etc.
Ms. David and her marxist-socialist comrades, if they feel this is not sufficient, should, indeed, chip in with their own money to help.

May 21, 2007 - 14:20 ET by GatorgradAmazing! Simply amazing the depths of gall and condescension. She lives in a huge Tudor mansion with staff and everything that comes with fame and fortune of the stars and is preaching how everyone else should live by stating an open ended question:
---"Would we make our homes and businesses more energy efficient so that every homeowner pays less on their bills every month? Would we make commutes as short as possible so that people can walk or bike if they choose?"
How condescending can she get? Would we? And if they would only listen to her they could all live better. It's a freaking farm community. You know one of those things that grows corn so you can make Ethanol? But alas that does not factor into the "educated musings of a global warming expert like her".
I'm sure that while getting her PHD. in Climatology she really became enlightened. (insert sarcastic tone here) But I am willing to guess her enlightenment came during a period of enjoying the smell of her own flatulence
