Is This A Joke? Jimmy Carter Says Bush Is 'Worst In History' on Foreign Policy

Photo of Tim Graham.

Today's funny headline, from The Washington Post: "Bush Is 'the Worst in History' In Foreign Relations, Carter Says." The AP doesn't not seem to see what's funny in these remarks: this clown couldn't manage a hostage rescue in the desert, and he's denouncing this president? The article had no reference to Carter's foreign policy failures as president.

AP reported "The denunciation of a sitting president was unprecedented for Carter, a biographer said." That biographer was Douglas Brinkley, who wrote a very favorable book on Carter's post-presidency years. But the tone doesn't sound all that different from Carter's 2004 speech to the Democrat convention, when he kvetched that all the post-9/11 good will "has been squandered by a virtually unbroken series of mistakes and miscalculations."

In an interview with the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, Carter proclaimed "I think as far as the adverse impact on the nation around the world, this administration has been the worst in history...The overt reversal of America's basic values as expressed by previous administrations...has been the most disturbing to me."

Contentions, the blog of Commentary magazine, gets it right:

Speaking of the “worst in history,” there can be little doubt that Jimmy Carter is himself Our Worst Ex-President — which is the title of a comprehensive, timely, and utterly devastating essay by Josh Muravchik that COMMENTARY published in February.

What explains Carter’s own abominable conduct? “Ever since his presidency,” writes Muravchik, “there has been a wide gap between Carter’s estimation of himself and the esteem in which other Americans hold him.”

Jimmah Cahter

This man is so freakin' pathetic!  It's interesting that he fails to bring up his own failed foreign policy and how Iran freed the American hostages only AFTER he was out of office.

And he conveniently overlooks the fact that Americans experienced the highest interest rates and inflation rates in our nation's history during his administration.

Jimmah Cahter needs to shut up and go back to building houses.

Never dance on an emtpy stomach unless it's a liberal.

Jimmy Carter also fails to acknowledge that, if I may be so bold, all of the Islamofascist crap going on today is a direct result of his incompetence in successfully handling the problem at its inception. He could have short-circuited the last thirty years of terrorism with decisive action, in my opinion.

Personally, I believe that Mr. Carter knows that history is NOT going to be kind to him. I think he desperately wants to foster the idea that he really wasn't the worst president, just so his "legacy" won't be quite as bad as it, in actuality, is.

<sarcasm> Isn't sayin

<sarcasm> Isn't saying that kind of thing "blaming America first" though?? Or maybe if you think that some Presidents' policies obviously-failed and then dare to say-so, logically you must therefore hate America! Yeah, that's it!! </sarcasm>

Is Jimmy Carter still upset that 99% of the American people threw his ass out of office and elected "RONALD REAGAN" as President to clean up his mess?

Jimma's Legacy

Carter believes if he says this enough he may convince the American public that he wasn't the worst President in the 20 century. Who can forget his own foreign and domestic policies and what failure happened on his watch. I remember the lines at the gas stations, I remember the double digit inflation and interest rates and I remember him getting on television and telling the American people it was our fault and that we needed to tighten our belts. I also remember Jimma's military because I was in it. We couldn't fly our aircraft for lack of parts and fuel, we could not get our ships underway for lack of parts, fuel and personnel (the highest rate of AWOLs and lowest rate of reenlistments in history). I remember his answer to the Soviet Union invading Afganistan was to boycott the Olympics in Moscow, threatening the Soviets that there would "grave circumstances". I remember our embassy being overrun by college students and our people being taken hostage and held and paraded before the world and Jimma wrote the Ayatollah a letter begging him to release our people. The Ayatollah's son later recounted that his father realized then that America was a paper tiger and that we did not have the guts to do anything. That was when the phrase "Death to America" and "America is the big Satan" was coined. I remember JImma handing over the names of our CIA operatives to the Soviets in all the countries who were sympathetic to us and how those people disappeared in the middle of the night, never to be heard of again. To this day we can't replace those eyes and ears on the ground around the world. If ever there was a more pathetic excuse for a leader Jimma Cahtah was that man. His handling of the hostage crisis was a dismal failure. I was there too on board the USS Nimitz assigned to a helo squadron. That was the biggest goat roping anyone has ever witnessed and people's lives were lost. It was a damned suicide mission and everyone knew it. For him to question anyone's ability or policy would be laughable if it weren't so gut wrenching pathetic. He has been trying to rewrite his history ever since he lost to Ronald Reagan but there are too many of us that remember.

My sentiment exactly Doug,

I swear the left's history books only recorded the last 4-6 years depending on the topic. Where does Carter get the courage to criticize anyone for anything? The MSM is really dragging the bottom when they claim his point of view is even remotely relevant!!

9/11

What do you think if the plane sent to hit White House/Congressional Buildings had not been stopped on 9/11 by courageous Americans, do you think the Senators & Congressmen/women that would have been left after that 9/11 attack would be saying the same today?  Oh, I forgot, GWB faked all or did all of that!  My bad, just as a conservative I forget that we think and Libs don't!

Carter/Panama Canal

Believer

I spent some time tonight researching what happened with the defensive sites at either end of the canal. It seems as a direct result of President Carter's concern over the growing dislike of our presence in Central America he signed the treaty in 1978 that ceded control of the canal to Panama.

They proceeded to auction it off to the ones with the biggest bags full of cash, the Chinese military. President Clinton did nothing to stop this as his guy Chung was securing military/computer secrets for the Chinese for campaign contributions. Quite a chain of events for the last two dems in the WH. Don't forget slick Willy has been trying to bolster his legacy with the same Bush bashing technique, and why does 41 hang around with this guy?

The reason I was researching this was I am concerned that the next POTUS might want to consider reversing some of this madness. Even maybe return Long Beach Naval Shipyard to US control. The only guy I see with a modicum of hutzpah do this has not even announced his candidacy, but FDT we pray it is in His will that you do.

My text book at school actually ranked Carter tied for the worst president in history.

"The denunciation of a sitting president was unprecedented for Carter, a biographer said." (emphasis mine).

That is simply jaw-dropping! Has this guy been asleep for the past 6 years???

BTW, has anyone ever seen him and Rosie O'Donnel in the same place at the same time?

The Drudge report this AM says is all: "Jimmy Who?"

The Carter's were the first o

The Carter's were the first ones to break the precedent of an ex-president not criticizing a sitting president.  A person of integrity would leave that to others...but, Jimma and CO. have no class.

They started out with personal attacks on Reagan, and they never stopped...  Billy Boy followed suit...

Will "W" rip on any future Dem prez?  --- Nope, because unlike the Dems, "W" has class.

Rosalynn Carter being the driving force

There have been reports that Rosalynn Carter was the driving force behind this.  Apparently she wasn't happy with Jimma's place the history books and demanded that he make efforts to repair his "legacy."

Well, This boob never got anything right when he was driving the Country into the ground.  He's wrong on this one as well.  Do we need to remind the MSM that because of Carter's failures in foreign policy we face the likelihood of a nuclear capable Iran?  Jimmy-boy is and remains the absolute WORST President we ever had.  GW doesn't even come close.

Sorry, Jimmah . . . you've go

Sorry, Jimmah . . . you've got last place all to yourself.

Jumpin' Jihad, Jimmuh!

I thinks it's safe to say that ol' Jihad Jimmuh has finally lost his last two remaining marbles.

He is now officially nuts.

This is the act of a desperat

This is the act of a desperate and fading man. He knows that he is arguably the worst President in the 20th century and does not have much time left to reform that. Unfortunately history is based on facts after all the politics is filtered out and old Jimmy will always be a failure.

Jimmy desparate and fading

But why, oh why can't he fade faster?  His Nobel Prize ranks down there with Arafat's as the worst awarded in history.

5. The vile person shall be no more called liberal, nor the churl said to be bountiful. For the vile person will speak villainy, and his heart will work iniquity, to practice hypocrisy, and to utter error against the LORD

Jimmy, ponder this...

It can be argued that the very biginning of the current world problems started with you. You showed the world that America was vulnerable and, depending on the people currently in power, incapable of defending itself against even a weak and puny nation. You showed that America was unwilling to risk military lives to rescue innocent civilians taken hostage by a small group of terrorists trying to take over another country who we called our ally. Thanks to you and your hesitancy to act and your indecisiveness, you created the weak, vulnearble America image that allowed these terrorists to even think that they might have an outside chance.

Thank You, Jimmy. Your legacy will be unique and is fixed at the bottom as the only US President in history to have an act of war perpetrated upon us with hostages taken, who sat and cowered in the Whitehouse. For over 400 days you allowed those people to be held without doing ANYTHING! You will be, for generations, the prime example of what not to do as a President.

The day that "politician" became a career choice is the day we started losing the Republic

I saw this on Drudge. Had to

I saw this on Drudge. Had to laugh. The problems of today were started by good old Jimmy. Day 3000+ America held hostage. And you din't have the balls to deal with it.

With double digit inflation, dollars worthless, and a pip squeak imam you lacked the balls to deal with. And a friend you didn't support. You were the worse. Bush is still trying to clean up your mess.

Before he was the worst President in U.S. history he was the worst Governor in the history of the State of Georgia!

Jimmy backs down a little.

Jimmy backs down a little.  Expecting his message will stay out there but hedging his intent as seen on today's Drudge

So who was he talking about "personally"?

Carter

Carter has fallen and he can’t get up no matter how hard he tries. He a man with a mission to, not only put lipstick on the pig of his presidency, but regale it with costume jewelry.

Since his presidency he has been trying to do the impossible – get a legacy. He has done this by cavorting with the dregs of the world in the vain hope that people will see him as a ‘man for all seasons’. He, instead, has been humiliating himself and his country.

He, the country, and the world would have been better off if he, after his presidency, went home, shucked peanuts, and he and his brother got high on Billy Beer.
